From the front porch where sumptuous breakfasts were served, we basked in the grandeur of the ocean and the crashing waves on the cliffs below. Our gracious hostesses were so welcoming and helpful in providing road recommendations and activities, restaurants in the Volcano area.

If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life then this is the place to stay. You won't be able to get to the beach there either but there is a pool and places to see are just a short drive away. Highly recommended if you are still "thinking about it". I wanted to steal...

Shakespeare the cat and Mary escorted us into the Bamboo Room for a warm welcome. The room is compact, but the shower is a destination of its own! A well-equipped picnic basket was supplied, but the nearest supplies were in Pahoa, 11 miles down the road. The good thing is, that 11 miles seems shorter every time you drive it!...

Tropical Hawaii beauty at an affordable price. My family and I are notorious for finding affordable lodging gems and this was an outstanding value. We were greeted by the adorable furball Shakespeare the kitty when we arrived. He continued to greet us at every breakfast and swam in the gorgeous pool when we went to it.....we are kitty people so...

We booked three nights at the Ala Kai for our Hawaii trip (along with a stay in our timeshare on the Kona coast), and we are so glad that we did. It was the perfect place to stay for visiting Volcanoes, Hilo, and all of the things to see on this side of the island. The room (Bamboo room) was...

The owners Pat and Mary are very nice and helpful. Homemade breakfast is served each morning at 8 AM. We were staying in the 2 bedroom cabin, and it was lovely. The kitchen was well equipted, and there is a large terrace with lounge chairs. Will stay there again, and can recommend it to everybody.

The room was clean and that's as much positive things as I could say. The bamboo room was extremely small with minimal storage. We checked in late, but had no trouble getting into the room. The bathroom had a great size shower, but no where to put any toiletries. We woke up to a prepared breakfast and was quickly greeted....

We stayed here for 3 nights while visiting Volcanoes NP amongst other things. It was great! The owners are very nice, the room (Bamboo Room) was fantastic, the bed was comfortable, there was airconditioning in the room, the bathroom was really spacious, enough towels (also beach towels) and the homemade breakfast was outstanding. It was also nice talking to the...

My husband and I brought my aunt to the Big Island to celebrate her 85th birthday. What a wonderful surprise to stay at the lovely Ala Kai. Our rooms were lovely, the beds comfortable and our time on the lanai overlooking the ocean will be a forever memory. Our host's were warm and welcoming and the breakfasts each morning were...

My daughter and I stayed at the Ala Kai toward the end of April 2015. We wanted to stay on the Hilo side of the island while we explored the volcano Waip o valley and the water falls. We were very fortunate to find this B & B. Our hosts, Pat and Mary were very nice and accommodating. (Especially when...
