I just come back from my 3rd vacation at Kalani Honua Resort, on the east side of the Big Island of Hawaii. It was once again amazing. Kalani is a different type of resort, Different in a great way! Whether you chose to stay in a studio with a shared bathroom, or in a beautiful bamboo cottage with your own... More

The food is fantastic--fresh local papayas and other fruit and vegetables full of flavor, delicious local streak, fish and chicken, and very fresh salad, plus great vegetarian choices. Almost every meal is excellent or very good. It is fun to meet interesting people from all over the world at meals where everyone can converse at long tables that seat 10... More

I visited this venue for the Yoga classes and received so much more. The staff, the food, the property, the ambiance, all reflects the owners intention of harmony and serenity. There are many themed events which may interest a seasoned traveler.

Kalani is magical. The property is so green and beautiful ... like being in the jungle ... tons of beautiful flowers, trees, geckos and an occasional mongoose or boar. The food is really tasty too! The area that Kalani is located is really rugged and beautiful. Lots of great things to see near by like McKenzie State Park, Lava Tree... More

Delighted to have found this place although a bit remote if you plan to visit the volcanoes national park, but we were glad to come back to Kalani after a full day of hiking and sightseeing. Peaceful, private and clean environmental friendly premises[we stayed in a bungalow]. Great wholesome organic meals with local ingredients just like home and plenty of... More

I was here for 2 nights in February of 2015. I was traveling solo and it certainly felt like a getaway. If you are a volunteer and living here, I think it would be fabulous, or someone who is taking a course or doing a retreat. Everything is very spread out, so if walking or if you have any mobility... I have to admit that I am quite a picky hotel guest. I normally stay in high end 5 star resorts and can still manage to find something wrong. I can only think of 1 thing wrong with Kalani and it is that the walkway/roads between locations (dining hall and far rooms) are not well lit for evening strolls. I... More

THis is very environmentally friendly, accepting atmostphere for all. Rustic, basic, charming. Cell and wi-fi service can be spotty and unreliable. But available on the property somewhere at sometime during a day, but not necessarily in your room when you want it (in all rooms). Food is healthy and homemade with a committed kitchen staff to wholesome eating. No heavy... More

I stayed for 3 nights at Kalani as a solo traveler and it was a good way to start my vacation on the Big Island. The majority of the people there are volunteers from all over the world, who exchange their labor for extended stays at the center. I only met 2 other guests. The volunteers are friendly, helpful and make... More

Stayed here as part of a yoga retreat package, so I did not choose the location. Liked my cabana that I shared with a friend. Clean, quiet. Truly a lush jungle, dark at night. Food was adequate for the most part. Indian food night was excellent! Staff very helpful and attentive. Took part in Hawaiian cultural experiences and highly recommend... More
