Not the best experience. When we pulled up, the "bell person" came over to the car. We thought he was coming to help with our suitcases but he just gruffly said to move the car up more. He then stood there and watched me and my 65 year old husband get the luggage out. On July 29th, I called the hotel to request early check in. The woman I spoke to assured me that it was no problem. I had said we'd be there about noon (we were) and she even said "I'll put in for 11:00 to make sure it's ready when you arrive". Well, there was no record of that promise and there was no room ready. We had to wait hours for our room. When we finally got our room, the "bell person" (a different one) just let us go in the luggage storage room to get our suitcases. There was no offer to help bring up our luggage and we had a lot since we were in Hawaii on a 2.5 week trip. There was no luggage cart available and no offer to help. There were several guys just standing around and I'm very unclear exactly what their job actually was since you have no valet and apparently no real bell services. When we finally got the room, it was nice but it was an extremely long walk to get to the room. It wasn't easy with all the luggage. We like both restaurants (Daybreak and Crooked surf). Food and service excellent at both. Love the pool area but the hot tub was extremely hot. I love hot, hot tubs but that was just plain uncomfortable and almost dangerously hot. When I checked out, I had to ask the woman to repeat herself because I am literally deaf with a cochlear implant that helps but with masks it's very difficult for me. The woman got quite irritated with me when I asked her to repeat her question. I pointed out to her that I'm deaf and it's very frustrating for me due to masks so please be patient. She did seem to recognize her impatience and made an effort to be pleasant. All in all, I would stay there again but ask for a room closer to the front desk and pool area. They need to work on their customer service though.

Wonderful resort. Could have 5 stars if hot tub wasn’t burning hot and if tv didn’t go offline (satellite maybe?) every night about 10 pm. Ocean right there! Great pool. Staff wonderful. Shopping, attractions and restaurants within a short distance. Felt safe.

Not sure why there are so many complaints by Karens recently for this hotel. Our family of 4 had a wonderful time. PROS: Friendly staff Right on the beach Complimentary bikes J02 restaurant nearby - make reservations Lava Lave Beach Club nearby - happy hour starts at 3pm Can hike to the top of Sleeping Giant CVS nearby to buy cold beer Fridges in rooms Gym on property CONS: Only about 24 rooms have direct oceanfront views - e.g. Room 191, some rooms face a parking lot I think, and most rooms have an angled view of the ocean, but you get what you pay for. At the moment there are no cabs or rental cars or Ubers so almost impossible to get around and from/to the airport. Try to book a shuttle ahead of time. Some construction going on. The ocean right in front is too rocky, but ride your bike 8 mins south and you will find a little cove for swimming in the ocean with soft sand at your feet.

The staff were friendly. The property is somewhat dated, but not disappointingly so. However, we were given a room right next to an area in the parking lot with very noisy machines that ran all night right outside our window, and the staff regularly carried out very noisy tasks in this area in the middle of the night (e.g., I could hear a high power wash). However, the worst situation was two nights when someone was hammering something in the middle of the night (around 4am) for hour long periods, and the banging noise would reverberate loudly through the walls. Overall, I was not able to get a good sleep on half of the nights we stayed here, and the headaches left me unable to enjoy my days. I am an easy going person, but a nice environment for a good night sleep is certainly something I expect from a resort stay in Hawaii.

I have had the fortune to travel to Hawaii multiple times over the past few years. Love it and will return. However, this last trip (July 2021) was one of the worst experiences I’ve had. It was not the locals, the scenery, the beaches, or the vibe that were lacking, it was my choice of resort. I am a Marriott Bonvoy loyal customer, but over the past few years the brands have significantly lowered their standards. This is a recently renovated/updated hotel so I thought it would be at the top of its game. The re-branding was well done and rooms are very well appointed/picture great. The service (aside from the beach bar staff - they were amazing) was terrible. I have never had worse service. Check in was delayed as my room wasn’t ready, nothing offered for the inconvenience. I even had to “check in” but wasn’t given keys. I had to ask for a resort amenity briefing/map which was given with an attitude of disdain. Room had adequate towels for night 1 but had to call for them on night 2 - 4 even though I requested daily housekeeping. Of the 6 nights room was only cleaned 3. Room had ants in the bathroom and when I alerted the desk no action was taken. Hotel breakfast was another mess. Wait staff was incredibly slow to seat you let alone once seated you were looking at an hour + to get food. Quality of food was terrible/lacked any type of flavor. I opted to walk to a local market many days as they “had no seating available” even though tables were visibly unoccupied. When it came to checking out, I requested late checkout - it was denied. I requested a hospitality room to clean up as I had a PM flight - also denied. When I asked where I should change after being at the pool all day I was told the pools had an outdoor shower area and handed a pool towel with a strong attitude. Bell staff failed to assist in locating my shuttle to the airport. Overall, I paid more per night than I have at much better resorts in Hawaii, and the service was lower than that of a road lodge/hotel. This is NOT resort quality staff. Do not expect such and you will not be disappointed. I will be headed to a Hyatt or Hilton on my next trip.
