We have a stunning view from our room. But the overall landscaping of this resort needs to be updated and relandscaped. The first thing I noticed was the faded carpet in your checked-in area. I was expecting the main entrance to look inviting. Overall, our stay with you was pleasant!

Hotel's Favourite
When I normally think of a Hilton Garden Inn, I usually don't get as excited as I would for a Hilton Resort or a Conrad or Waldorf. This gem is an exception. You can just tell that the management has given the team members the leeway to make decisions and our whole trip was so smooth. They surprised us with an upgrade (we're Hilton Diamond) as well as a charcuterie board and birthday cake! The location is on a beautiful public beach that is not crowded at all. This hotel is located on the east side of the island about 10 minutes from the airport in Lihue. It's convenient if you want to go to the north or south of the island. The hotel offers 2 free waters a day, also a 2-hour free bike ride and there is a great ocean path, also $10 credit per day for up to two people in lieu of breakfast. I prefer their breakfast when they used to serve it, but things have changed with Covid. Not the GMs fault, but the higher level Hilton execs could bring back the breakfast. Free parking and housekeeping every 3 days and replenish of toiletries whenever you need. There is a Tiki bar almost right on the beach which has live music on Friday and Saturday nights and serves alcohol, beer on tap as well as a few tasty food dishes! If you are looking for a place to stay near the airport, near fabulous hikes and good restaurants as well as local hole in the wall restaurants (my personal favorite), I definitely recommend that you stay here. Hilton Garden Inn does it right in Wailua!

If you are used to the spectacular Hilton Resorts at the other 3 Hawaii Islands, this one is quite different. Meaning and old hotel probably from the 60's or 70's but with some great benefits. Here is the run down: THE GOOD: 1) By far, the best thing about this hotel is Lidgate Beach literally in its back yard. Kauai beaches are picture perfect but very few are swimmable. This one is thanks to a man made reef. It is also surprisingly great for snorkeling without the waves pounding you against the rocks. 2) Breakfast is thankfully A La Carte so you don't have to put up with the dismal complimentary breakfasts (al least for HH Diamond members) that you find at typical Garden Inns or Hampton Inns. The food is excellent and they gave us $20 for 2 per day towards breakfast. Not much but it is worth it. 3) The layout of the hotel is very easy to figure out unlike some mega resorts where you spend 3 days to figure out what's what. One large open airy lobby that's quite attractive and 2 wings. 4) Parking is free and plentiful and right there by the entrance. 5) Manahune bar by the beach is a great place to have a Mai Tai after a busy day hiking or snorkeling. The views of Lidgate Park are beautiful at sunset and the bar is unpretentious (you can bring your snack or anything else you want) and they make a solid Mai Tai. 6) As a token of appreciation they give a voucher for a 2 hour bike ride on the Hele trail. DO NOT miss this. The views are spectacular from Kapaa to Donkey Beach. Bring your camera. THE BAD: 1) Most of the rooms have no balconies! why on earth would they build something in paradise with no balconies is beyond me. We asked for a walk-out room on the ground floor (and had to wait till next day to get it) so we can breath some fresh air and have our coffee outdoors looking at the beach. 2) The lobby staff seem to lack knowledge about their hotel. The one that checked us in was clueless. She couldn't tell us if our room is a walk out or not or pretty much anything else. The next day we dealt directly with the supervisor who was able to get maintenance to finish up a walk-out room and make it ready for us by the time we got back from our Na Pali boat tour. 3) Strangely, beyond breakfast, this hotel offers no food options for lunch or dinner. We heard Manahune serves hot food for few hours a day but we're not sure. We never eat at hotels anyway so we didn't care but others with small kids may need this service. Sometimes food trucks show up by the entrance but they don't operate on any known schedule. Very strange. THE UGLY: Incredibly, we lost power 3 times in our room during our stay. Each time we had to call the front desk and they send maintenance to reset some circuit breaker somewhere to get us power back within 15 minutes. Staying at Hiltons worldwide we have never experienced anything like it. The management should really fix this problem to never happen again.

Stayed here to celebrate our anniversary, a birthday and a graduation. The staff was very accommodating and super friendly. This is a nice hidden gem, great beach access and 2 pools and hot tub. It’s close to shops and restaurants and about a 15 minute drive from the airport. And no you do not get any airport traffic here.
