I do not normally post anything. However, this time I thought that I should. I checked in at the hotel around 9 PM on 6/16/2021. Asia served me. She gave me a room on the first floor while my confirmation called for a room 'with a balcony'. I was told told that it is just a generic word and does not mean upper floors. Nevertheless, she assured me to switch to a different room on the next day (6/17), however, I will have to vacate my room by 10:00 AM on 6/17, and can move in to the new room at 4:00 PM. I mentioned to her that it would be difficult for not having any room for 6 hours while travelling with two kids. I then talked to the on-site Manager, and she found a room with handicap accessibility; with a rolling shower, no door for the toilet, can't close the bathroom door. With two adults and two kids staying in that room, it became very difficult to use the bathroom. The kitchen did not have any oven, and on top of that when I asked for extra creamers and sugars, they were provided to me in a trash bag. I normally stay at Westin as a member, however, this is not the service one should expect from a brand like Westin, especially when one is paying over $500/night. There are other choices out there in that price range. Also, it is called a ocean resort, however, you can only see the horizon from few rooms. Most rooms are either garden, swimming pool, or parking lot view. I posted this to the Westin site, and never received even an acknowledgement.

We are members of both Ritz Carlton & Marriott. We loved our stay here. We booked rooms on both sides of the island. We stayed at a very luxurious hotel on the other side of the island, close to the airport, that waited on you hand & foot & had swimming pools galore & didn’t love it. BUT WE LOVED THE WESTIN. From the management, to the check in, to the restaurant & pool staff they were great. You cannot beat the location! You can grab a bite at the pool or eat on the patio, or take a short 15 minute breathtaking drive to Hanalei & have dozens of restaurants. Don’t be afraid to try the food trucks along the way from the airport, they are delicious! The most beautiful, breathtaking beaches are less than a 30 minute drive from the Westin! Room cleaning is limited out of respect for the Covid virus, but that was fine with our family! You can ask for fresh towels or supplies & get them immediately! Hawaii is an adventure of beauty & it will not disappoint!! Remember, be patient & kind. Theses are unprecedented times, & the people who are working, need a little appreciation! We are already planning on coming back next year! Mahalo!

-Definitely book a rental car way in advance. This hotel is far from everything. You will need to drive about 1/2 an hour at least to get to restaurants. -The hotel restaurant is only open for take out, and on a limited menu. As a vegetarian, I ate the same thing every time we ate there. Good food, but somehow missing the luxury feeling when your food is in a plastic container. There are many restaurants on the island that are operating at reduced capacity, but still dine in. Since there are no local restaurants, it would be more convenient to have the hotel restaurant open. -Pool is beautiful visually, but on closer look there is chicken poop at the bottom in many spots. :/ -IMO, worst part of the rooms was the location of the AC. It blows directly on the bed, and half way through the vacation, I got a head cold. There’s no way to move or redirect the vent. -Strangely, the one garbage is in the closet-same one to hang your clothes, or a teeny tiny one in the toilet room. There’s not really anywhere else to put it in the room anyway. -Patio is the size of a beach towel- we were on the first floor. -If you buy food for the tiny kitchenette (we were in a studio unit), there is nowhere to store it other than the refrigerator. So non-refrigerated items have to sit on the tiny counter. -The resort DEFINITELY was not full, and my husband is a Lifetime Titanium Bonvoy member, and they gave us the tiniest and least spectacular room they could find, I think. We did attend a timeshare meeting, but with how my husband’s loyalty to Marriott was not mentioned or acknowledged, it did not show any prospect that we would be appreciated if we decided to purchase. -Watch out for the Nene (Hawaiian geese)… since we were on the first floor, 2 of them came right up to me looking for food, I guess. Then started pecking at the door, then walked away. When I opened the door to go back in, they ran really fast back to the door, and tried to get in! If you visit, request 2nd floor or above! -Wear hiking shoes to get down to the beach! -I was disappointed on check-in there was no “Aloha” or anything… we are in Hawaii… the atmosphere is of a nice hotel, but it felt like it could have been anywhere. -Not sure why, but also would have liked to see more diversity in the staff. From what I saw, native Hawaiians were doing the cleaning/gardening/some pool bar servers, but the front desk and seemingly anyone who had a higher position was non-native. Kind of rubbed me the wrong way. -Rooms were clean, foliage is impeccably kept. Not terrible, but not what I imagined the Hawaii hotel would feel like. It’s all about the experience, right?

Had a great trip! Updated rooms are nice. New appliances, furniture and carpet. We are owners and have come to the resort every year since it opened. Fully understanding that things would be different this trip because of Covid. I hope that Marriott brings back some of the amenities that were missing on this trip. The 10% discount for owners. Monday morning kickoff and valet. The staff has become like family so it was nice to see some of our favorites were still there. Special thank you to Veronica and Susan at the activity hut. Our son always looks forward to the craft projects and you guys made it extra special for him. Sam and Masa did a great job dealing with the craziness at the pool. Chris thanks for keeping the drinks coming!

Tried north shore Kauai after a few trips to south shore - restaurants closed (didn’t know until we got there), can’t access beach directly and very little to do on property. People were very nice, but extremely difficult to find a place to eat without 1-2 hour waits and nice beaches further west difficult to access due to post landslide road repairs. Just heads up - value for money or amenities not apparent.
