The Maui Seaside Hotel garners appreciation for its friendly staff and strategic location near attractions, with many guests highlighting the convenient shuttle service. While the rooms elicit mixed reactions for their cleanliness and state of repair, the hotel's overall cleanliness and charming atmosphere, complete with retro touches and live music, are often praised.
Guests enjoy amenities like the pool and outdoor games, though some feel the offerings are basic and the additional fees undermine the hotel's value proposition.

Detailed Reviews

Stayed three nights here from Indiana. This hotel (motel) is not a luxury resort - but it does not claim to be. Room was perfectly clean, was cool on our arrival and stayed cool. Drywall may be a little rough and carpet a little worn, but the grounds and pool are simple yet immaculate. Our bathroom was great and newly remodeled. Also had a clothes drying line. A Security staff person was visible, which ensures a feeling of safety. Staff members seemed happy and had a spring in their step. Maybe It should go without saying, but I’ll say it: we didn’t see any insects of any kind, dead or alive, anywhere. A restaurant shares the parking lot of the hotel and could not be any more convenient. We ate there three times - all were great. The beach and the bay have an industrial feel, which probably would not appeal to families with children between the ages of six and 17. There is no cost “rent” the deck chairs around the pool or in the low depth portion of the pool water, which is about 8 inches deep. The airport shuttle is free. We did not have a rental car, but my memory is that the parking fee is about 1/3 of what other hotels charge to park a rental car. Those three amenities contribute to your savings. Also free bottle filling station. We saved enough here to pay for all of our Maui Excursions. Guests ranged from respectful, quiet, construction workers, to likely Locals to obvious mainlanders like us with both older couples and families with children being represented. (I’m an industrial construction project manager but my wife and I left a mainland hotel once with our kids many years ago because of obnoxious construction workers. Much different here. I suspect Management does not tolerate disruptive behavior.). We considered staying at a major brand near the airport, but decided to stay here and we have zero regrets. We were on the island several weeks and stayed at a variety of accommodations. This locations gets five stars from us for being all we hoped it would be and being a great value compared to so many Maui hotels. Maui Seaside Hotel helped make our vacation happy, wonder-filled and affordable.

When we were going to book a room from this hotel it was written housekeeping was the service of the hotel. So, it means it's free. But after we left the hotel they charged us for 20$ per day for cleaning service in spite of not asking them to clean the room during the time we were there. If it's not free please mention it before people get shocked with their bills.
Other than that everything was good.

Aloha, Thank you for bringing to our attention your experience and comments regarding your stay in our hotel. My apologies that the amenity fee was not explained to you properly. The amenity fee ($20/night) covers discounts, Wi-Fi, shuttle services and much more. It has nothing to do with housekeeping (which is provided at no cost always). If you booked via third party that fee would be shown as payable at the hotel. My apologies for the misunderstanding. With Aloha, Cary Guest Experience Team Maui Seaside Hotel

My colleague and I had three excellent visits to the Maui Seaside Hotel this month. We stayed in two different rooms while we were here, the ones by the pool and one in the renovated tower. The beds are comfortable and you can’t hear other people in adjoining rooms, which is always a plus! The grounds are beautiful and well maintained, and they curate some activities for their guests (on the calendar by check in) like game night. I also can’t speak highly enough about the quality customer service of everyone who works here. Everyone is kind, responsive and communicative. The price is the highly competitive especially in this part of Maui, hey you don’t lose out on quality for its affordability. Can’t wait to come back! We have already recommended it to family and friends. Mahalo nui loa Maui Seaside Hotel!

Maui Seaside Hotel has a great location in Kahului in the North-Central part of the city at the intersection of three main roads with a small beach. However, the service was limited as they told us they don't do room service everyday and we have to ask for it every other day. We requested one for two days after we checked in but they still didn't perform cleaning. Our room had started to stink from the wet towels and uncollected trash. So on our last night we had to directly phone in and ask mgmt for at least the dirty towels to be removed and new linens provided. There is also limited parking for which we are charged $15. There is also an over-priced restaurant on-site. It is good place otherwise as the A/C and WiFi were good and the beds comfy. The pool looked nice though our view was out to the container loading site and the canoe place.

We had some special requests, regarding resort fees being charged(disabled spouse, late arrival, heavy rainfall, etc.) which were ignored. I explained that we would not be using the pool, the beach, the Internet, etc. due to the above. I asked that the "Resort Fee" be forgiven. But the Answer(from the senior manager/supervisor on duty, Cary Math, was, "It's a MANDATORY Amenity Fee" No exception consideration given. It's not a big deal financially($20 + Tax) but it was how it was glibly, and smugly answered it was explained, as we were "dismissed". Also, the building we were in was shoddy looking & rundown, but the room itself had been updated. So it was OK. Little things, like "only 1/3 roll of toilet paper on the dispenser(no back roll provided) No tissue/Kleenex in the room. No hairdryer provided.

If you’re considering Maui Seaside Hotel, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. I wish I had trusted my instincts from the start. Thank God I spent the rest of my vacation at a different hotel and only chose this one for the last night because I needed to be near the airport.
As a first-time visitor to Hawaii, this hotel almost ruined the experience. While its location is convenient—just 7 minutes from the airport—the steep nightly rates combined with additional charges for amenities felt unreasonable, especially for a room that was more like a rundown motel. I would expect basic amenities to be included for the price. The beach nearby was also disappointing, located near the ship docks, and it’s nothing like the beautiful beaches you imagine when you think of Hawaii.
The only redeeming features were the updated lobby and pool area, but they didn’t make up for the rest of the stay. Unfortunately, since I booked through a third-party system, switching hotels wasn’t an option.
Since you’re already going to spend the money, spend it somewhere truly worth it! I’d highly recommend The Mauian Hotel in Napili instead. It’s a bit farther from the airport, but the experience is night and day compared to this one. Don’t risk your Maui stay—choose a place that will actually enhance your trip!

Aloha Chixie420, We are so sorry we did not meet your expectations for your overnight stay with us and grateful you found a place in Napili that you found satisfactory. Our daily rates are some of the lowest and most economical on the island as Maui is a costly destination. We are very forthcoming about our location, comfort, and convenience to so many places throughout the island, our website photos and the ones we share with Agoda are very current and accurately reflect our unique boutique property. We are in the process of improving our rooms and are very proud of our final product on the first 25 completed rooms. Mahalo for your feedback. Gary Sutton - Hotel Manager - Maui Seaside Hotel

I expected a good value for my money when booking the kamaaina rate at Maui Seaside (especially given the sky-high pricing elsewhere on Maui these days) but I was so impressed that I actually returned for one more night later in my trip when I was too tired to drive upcountry and just needed a reliable, clean space to rest. The front desk staff including Fe and Gary were so kind and helpful. Mahalo nui loa. I’ll be back for sure!

When we arrived at the motel (not hotel), we were struck by the beautifully decorated lobby, gorgeous courtyard, and the ocean view. Our positive impression of the place stopped there. We arrived at our room and felt like we’d entered a dark cave. There was no light if you wanted the privacy of the shades, and it was scarcely decorated. We were disappointed in the lack of a homey feel. The bed was hard, and the bedding left little to be desired. All you had for your nights sleep was two thin sheets, two tiny pillows, and a worn fleece blanket. I woke up sore each morning from tossing and turning. I asked the front desk for a throw blanket to keep warm with by the pool or beach at night, and I received a very weird look. Hotels are supposed to be cozy and feel like a temporary home. We booked the “garden room” thinking it would have a green, lush view, and we instead had a view of other rooms in the building across the pathway and a singular palm tree. The photos you see are just professional photos. They’re framed just right to trick you into thinking your getting a quality experience.
The WORST part of our stay involved their complete lack of attention/commitment to keeping their property clean of litter. The courtyard is cleaned once a day (after the pool), and there are few trashcans on the property, so when you go outside in the morning, you’ll spot trash and plastics strung about. Beyond that, I was saddened by the quality of the beach. I spotted trash consistently and a disappointing amount of microplastics. When I suggested taking the time to keep their beach clean at the front desk, I was told that it was the state’s beach and therefore not their responsibility. That is a horrible excuse. Considering people come here to enjoy the beauty of Hawaii and its wildlife, you’d expect them to take responsibility for the beach and the ocean life it serves as refuge for. It bothers me to see trash, especially plastics, so close to the ocean, so I cleaned up these areas. This should be a huge priority for them. The marketing photos are a façade. This motel has a ton of room for improvement in priorities and attention to detail before I’d ever consider staying again.

Aloha SabrinaandDavidh: Thank you for staying with us and for your frank review. I was disappointed and surprised to read you were not happy with your stay as many guests prefer the beds in the Garden Wing rooms. I apologize you felt our website photos were not sufficiently comprehensive. Your idea about providing throws for outdoor use is interesting and I have begun to look into the feasibility of providing such, especially on winter evenings. I am extraordinarily disappointed you found a noticeable amount of litter on the property, My team and I spend a quite a bit of time policing the hotel and I will share your remarks with them in order to do better. My team and I also do occasional beach clean ups. I am a stickler for providing accurate visual depictions of my hotel; the marketing photos represent the property the majority of the time. While many guests remark on our friendliness and cleanliness, I apologize this was not your experience in the five nights you stayed with us. A Hui Hou, Bill Rees General Manager Maui Seaside Hotel

Staying at the Maui Seaside Hotel has been something I’ve done my entire life. It was inexpensive but extremely convenient. Today’s prices are high all over and Maui Seaside is no exception. However, owners invested in upgrades that really changed the experience and the upgrade to a suite was well worth it. The grounds are well manicured and the hotel is simple and casual. It is conveniently located within Kahului which makes location and ease of access a great asset.

Had trouble staying connected to the internet. Not using fitted sheets was awful!!!! As soon as one gets in bed, everything comes loose. When I’d turn over, the bottom sheet and piece of material under it created big lumps that needed to be pulled straight during the night.
I required & reserved an accessible room. It simply had grab bars, a shower chair that DIDN’T fit into the tub, plus a very slippery surface when soap ran off me. I showered hanging on to the grab bar for dear life. It was very scary. The next day, I did ask for a tub mat & one was provided so I recommended those are offered to anyone having to use a tub shower. Last, but not least, I felt like it was bate & switch. When we stayed there before Covid, we were given one of the rooms in the buildings featured in ads & on the internet. I was not even aware there were dumpy buildings behind there, where my accessible room was assigned this time. I was told the rooms we stayed in before are considered premium rooms & it would be an additional $69 plus tax & fees per night. I couldn’t afford another $400 so I stayed in a back building & then sat most days in the breezeway with my Maui family.

Aloha rosemarye2107: Thank you for staying with us and for your candid remarks about our accessible rooms. Some accessible rooms have bathtubs and shower chairs while some rooms have roll-in showers. I have asked our engineering and housekeeping departments to review the room in which you stayed to be sure it is truely accessible. We have no accessible rooms in our poolside section; all accessible rooms are in the three story annex building away from the pool. We hope you will give us another look on your next visit to Maui. I agree with this answer.
I was notified that the hotel was purchased by Hilton so in the future the breakfast option might change.
We do not offer day rates at this time, you would pay full rate even if you will not be staying overnight with us.
