having stayed at the Harbor Arms for long periods at a time (2 or more months at a stay) - any one visiting Oahu with a tight budget, or working at Pearl Harbor or Hickem AB,. It is not the Ritz, but it is clean! Harbor Arms offers efficiency type rooms with gas stoves and full refrigerators. It is not in the tourist district, but in an older part of Aiea. It is within walking distance to shopping, restaurants and bus transportation. The staff is small, but does offer full service during the weekdays. As other reviews service is limited after 5 pm, but the resident manager does try to accommodate all needs.
Only complaint that is beyond the hotels control is the street noise.

While this apartment/hotel is primarily for long term for the military, they had some vacancies, so we were able to get an apartment for our family of 5 for 3 nights. I thought one of my granchildren would have to sleep on a sofa bed in the living room, but they had a double bed & a twin in one of the bedrooms, so that was great! Parking was free-and convenient. The location for us was EXCELLENT, as we were there for a soccer tournament at Waipio Complex, only 5 miles away. This place is very close to so many things--Starbucks, Baskins & Robins, Pearl Ridge Shopping Center--such a convenient location. The manager (Camie) was very friendly & responsive to any needs. While there is daily changing beds & towels, they don't do that on Sunday, but that wasn't a problem for us. We didn't know they had a smoke free floor until our last day, so next time, if we are fortunate enough to get to stay there, I would ask for that.

DO NOT STAY HERE! This is a long post, so I will summarize our issue: They kicked my wife and kids out of the hotel before the end of our reservation.

I reserved this hotel for my wife and children as part of a military Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move. Harbor Arms Apartment Hotel is an authorized participant in the Temporary Lodging Allowance (TLA) program. TLA allows service members and their families that are in the PCS process to stay at approved TLA hotels and receive reimbursement.

This hotel was reserved beginning 12 June through 14 July but we ended up only needing the hotel through 5 July. My wife informed Harbor Arms that she would be checking out of the hotel on 5 July but would still make the 10 day payment on 4 July.

TLA requires a participant to pay the hotel every 10 days and submit that receipt to the local TLA office for reimbursement. July 4th was the 10th day and my wife needed to pay the 10 day amount. When she went to do so, she was informed by hotel staff that her reservation was no longer valid and the room was taken. She explained to them that she still needed the hotel but was there simply at the 10 day requirement and not there to check out. The staff told her there was no vacancy and she could not extend the reservation, a reservation that originally went through the 14th.

Each employee she talked to informed her that she was wrong and her reservation was expired. One employee yelled at my wife to inform her she was wrong. No matter how my wife explained that she was there only to pay the 10 day amount, not to leave the hotel, the employees were rude, yelled, and kicked my wife and the kids out of the hotel, despite the fact that our reservation was still valid and she and the kids had nowhere to go. My wife had to scramble to find a hotel with vacancies because Harbor Arms refused to allow them to stay one more day without any additional explanation other than that they couldn't extend the reservation--remember, the original reservation went through the 14th but was shortened to the 5th; this was on the 4th.

The icing on the cake is that Harbor Arms kicked a military family out of its hotel on Independence Day.

Response from Eric T, General Manager at Harbor Arms Apartment Hotel
Responded Aug 15, 2020
It was unfortunate but it is true that we did not extend this family when they wanted to, on the 4th of July. They were not kicked out, the period that they had paid for had expired. An update from someone who worked the front desk: (I just want to truth to be known) Aloha All, Please take the time to read this response. This person’s review is NOT accurate and is extremely one sided and unfair. I was working front desk at the time this family stayed at the Harbor Arms Apartment Hotel. This is my recollection of the events that happened during this family’s stay. First off, I would like to say that the person reviewing did not stay at the hotel at all. He sent his family to the hotel to stay with us so he does not have any kind of incite of the events that occurred during their stay. We had numerous issues with this family. First and foremost, they lied about how many people were in their party before they even checked-in. They stated there were only 4 in the party. A few days after checking-in, our housekeeping staff noticed there was almost double that amount. There were in fact 7 people in their party. After the owner found this out, instead of asking them to leave, she upgraded them to our largest room to accommodate the family and did not charge for the 7th person. The owner, who was almost 80 at the time, even helped them move their items. That was the first red flag. After that, all hell broke loose. The 5 children in this family were completely out of control. They were running around the parking lot, up and down the stairs, in and out of the elevator, all while the mom was never to be seen. Sometimes the grandmother was out sleeping in the pool area, it seems like she was the caretaker, but the mom was almost always in the room while her kids ran around. If anyone would kindly ask the kids to stop running around because they’ll get hurt, the mom would come and yell at the employees even though she was not around to tell them herself. The kids were running in and out of the elevator regularly, while wet from the pool, even with a sign asking parents to not let their kids play in or around or left alone in the elevator. The kids were running up and down the 2nd and third floor walkways, banging a stroller with the youngest in it at the railings, and when asked to be safe the mom came into the office to accost the employee who asked the kids to stop, even though she was nowhere to be seen. Please note this family was occupying a room on the first floor. They had no reason to be on the second or third floor of the hotel. This family was loud and we had complaints from other guests about the noise level coming from the unsupervised children. The mother belittled all of the employees and was extremely rude. She was also the only person doing the yelling and was verbally aggressive. This family’s stay was not extended because they were a liability to the hotel. The employees were at the edge of their seats the whole time they were there. The father wasn’t much of a prize either. He called yelling out “Do you know who I am?! I’m going to have you people taken off the TLA list! Do you have any idea who I am?!” Some might say they are the true definition of a Karen and a Kevin yelling to speak to a manager then threatening the manager and the company. I hope that all would consider both sides and also note that these people were never kicked out, we simply did not extend their stay after their last payment.
