Nestled in a stunning oceanfront location, Turtle Bay Resort captivates guests with its beautiful surroundings and live music, contributing to a lively atmosphere. While some guests regard the resort's offerings as pricey, the impeccable cleanliness and luxurious renovations are often celebrated. Service at the resort usually earns praise for its helpful staff, although there have been occasional reports of rudeness. The resort's diverse amenities, including beach access and picturesque views, enhance the experience, despite the dining costs. Although spacious, modern rooms with ocean views are a highlight, noise levels and room allocation have been concerns for some visitors.

Our second trip staying at Turtle Bay and this time in the main hotel (not a bungalow). Booked the upper floor with an amazing view that was worth every penny. Perfect to sit outside and enjoy a morning coffee or an afternoon beer and snack or evening cocktail.

Room was perfect. Spacious. Modern. Lots of USB ports right by the room. Fridge. Bathroom was spacious as well. No complaints. Remodel has done wonders for the place.

The grounds that make up the property are stunning. Lots of walking paths and hiking trails. So much to explore! Some dining options on site but also lots to explore outside. Rent a car and visit the many food trucks nearby – shaved ice, pizza, shrimp, tacos. Support Local! Or even head over to Haleiwa for dinner.

Yes, the place can be pricey but everything is pricey on the island. Swing by the local Foodland to stock up on snacks and local beers.

A 5 star stay all day! Stay at Turtle Bay!

Response from Hotel Management, General Manager at Turtle Bay Resort
Responded May 24, 2023
Aloha. It was heartwarming having you return to Turtle Bay Resort for another unparalleled getaway. We are so pleased to know that you enjoyed our breathtaking views and found our newly remodeled rooms to be impressive and provide an ideal home away from home. It is also delightful to hear that you took full advantage of our stunning grounds, walking paths, hiking trails, and diverse food options both on and off the property. Your shout-out to local businesses and recommendation for guests to explore the local food scene truly captures the spirit of Aloha. We appreciate your understanding of island pricing and are glad to hear you found your experience worthy of five stars. We are grateful for your strong recommendation and look forward to welcoming you back for your third visit! Mahalo Joey Woofter, Hotel Manager

I love this place! There is so much to do, the facility is very clean and comfortable and the views are breathtaking. Horse back riding was a favorite, as was the garden massage. I had planned to get a cottage but after reading reviews decided to stay in the vista level (5th/6th floor of main building) instead. The cottages look wonderful, I just thought being in the main building suited my family’s needs better. This was the right call for us.

The breakfast provided for those in vista level was very nice. There were always 2 hot dishes (examples: breakfast sandwiches, scrambled eggs with cheese and spinach), as well as fresh fruits, croissants and other pastries, hard boiled eggs, oatmeal, cereals, coffee, and orange juice. Factor this free breakfast in when choosing where to stay. Breakfast sandwiches in the lobby coffee shop were $8 and a cup of fruit was $6. For 4 people that adds up quickly.

If I could offer one suggestion for improvement it would be to add laundry facilities on the 5th or 6th floor. Floor 3 has a laundromat but there are only 3 washers and dryers, and one of the washers was out of order.

So happy we chose Turtle Bay for our family vacation!

Resort location is second to none, in the beautiful North Shore. Enjoyed Golfing, Surfing, SUP, horseback riding and mountain biking. Roy's and Lei Lei restaurants were great. Pa'kai was another story. Went there three times for breakfast all three times it was terrible. I would equate this to waffle house or lower. food was terrible, juice was made from syrup and multiple times the food was under cooked. We started just grabbing a quick breakfast in the lobby bar and that worked. One of the restaurants was under construction and it was difficult to get reservations so three times we had to eat room service in our room. ( which tasted great)I would suggest you limit outside people from reserving the restaurants during peak times so people who paid a premium to stay at the resort have first priority especially during a renovation. The tennis was a disappointment. There was no balls for purchase and the balls provided were so dead they couldn't be used. Also the rackets provided needed to be restrung two years ago. Might not be a big deal to most but if you enjoy Tennis Like my family I suggest bringing your own gear. The cleaning staff wasn't great I had to start organizing all the outside glasses and left over pitchers from room service so they would take them away. They definitely could improve in this area. Golf on Palmer was really good and I would recommend either course to anyone. Rental gear was also very good. Overall a good experience besides the few shortfall I mentioned. I rented adjoining rooms and paid $1100 per night for both during Christmas. Thought the rate was fair for the timing but you wouldn't expect some of what I mentioned for the price. One last thing, the Spa is amazing and definitely need to add that to your vacation.

After a two and a half week vacation touring New Zealand and Australia, my boyfriend and I decided to extend a layover in Hawaii into two nights before heading home. Thinking it would be funny, we booked two nights at Turtle Bay fondly recalling Forgetting Sarah Marshall. What a mistake.
We get checked in and despite the $50/day resort fees you can’t even sit in chairs on the beach for free. But you have access to a DVD player despite it being the year 2020, so I guess all’s well?
The first night we headed to Pa’akai which was supposed to be the nicer of the resort restaurants. Instead after notifying the server of my nut allergy, we were given the Poke Trio, which has nuts in it? Thankfully my boyfriend and the table runner stopped me from eating it. Mistakes happen, but come on. When I asked if we could just have the appetizer without nuts, I was told that it’s pre-mixed. Um, gross.
The next day we didn’t have housekeeping come at all, which if you’re going to advertise as a luxury resort a good place to start is to make the beds daily. Just maybe the bare minimum please.
On our last night we were interested in checking out the only bar that was open late on the resort and in the area, surfer, but were told as hotel guests we had to pay a cover. Again- is that resort fee only for the DVD player?
Upon checkout we had to have $100 in extraneous charges reversed, so if you still choose to stay here, make sure they don’t charge you for towel rentals or a parking fee despite not having a car there.
Basically if you love the movie- just watch it. Don’t waste your money here.

Aloha and thank you for your review. I am sorry your experience fell short of your expectations and I have shared your feedback with my management team. Like most resorts, Turtle Bay Resort charges a resort fee. Beyond the Blu-ray movie rentals, use of Beats Pillbox speakers and GoPro Camera, snorkeling gear and daily tennis or pickleball court usage, standup paddle land demo clinic, basket of range balls and golf club usage and Fitness Center access outfitted with the latest cardiovascular equipment. We are proud to be one of only five concert venues on the island at Surfer, The Bar, and an ongoing host to the island’s best musicians and touring groups. While this concert venue has an entrance fee, I hope you enjoyed a cocktail at one of the resort’s other five bars. Please consider returning one day and giving us a chance to show you the exceptional experiences that keep Turtle Bay Resort one of the leading spots in Hawaii. With warmest aloha, Helene Arakaki, director of rooms & aloha managers

We spent 7 nights in early February, booking a cottage house. We were continually impressed with the Turtle Bay Resort, it succeeds in all the key areas, beautiful location, superbly maintained property, a nice mix of high end and casual restaurants, and the most consistently helpful and accommodating team of staff we have ever experienced in our travels. There no issues worth mention. You quickly realize that this is the destination visit for others staying elsewhere on Oahu, as we met several people who made the trip Waikiki to experience the resort for the day. We mostly utilized the amenities available at the resort, though we did a whale excursion, visited the Polynesian cultural center, and the nearby botanical garden. We also ate almost exclusively on the property, the restaurants vary in price, Lei Leis was our breakfast choice, many lunches were at the pool side restaurant, and we ate at both Roy's and Pa'akai. Prices are what you would expect from a quality restaurant, the pool side restaurant, and Lei Leis were a bit cheaper, but the food quality was excellent for all. The cottage is beautiful, and the view from the porch of the bay is to die for. We would watch the surfers, the local wildlife and the beautiful views, between snorkeling, swimming the pool, soaking in the hot tub or listening to music pool side. Yes, you pay $$ for this, but we the hotel exceeded our expectations in almost every category. An added plus which we did not realize until we got there...sitting in traffic can consume valuable vacation time, and depending on the season and time of day, traffic can be significant!. Thus staying at this hotel affords most needs, minimizing having to leave the property, and maximizing fun time. RECOMMENDED!

Aloha and thank you for your review! I am so pleased to hear how much you enjoyed your stay. The Beach Cottages offer one of Hawaii’s most unique places to stay. With its towering 15-foot ceilings, contemporary island decor and spa-like marble bathrooms, guests can be separate from the main hotel and only steps from the ocean’s edge. It sounds like you really took advantage of the resort’s nearly 1,300 acres and look forward to welcoming you back soon. With warmest aloha, Helene Arakaki, director of rooms & aloha managers

I just checked out of the Turtle Bay resort on the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii. Overall the stay was nice. The rooms were about average size for a hotel room, with the bathroom done fairly nicely. The pools were good for this size of resort. The staff overall were good, except for the people working at the drive up to the lobby. The staff there are not attentive to people parking their cars in the middle of the drive thereby blocking others from interring and parking. When called to their attention instead of addressing the problem they chose to criticize guests about driving to fast. Hard to drive fast when parked behind a car. Given the cost of this resort, its remoteness, and the attitude they seem to have, I would not go back. For me there are much better resorts for less money where staff respond to issues instead of lecture their guests on non realities. Recommend you look elsewhere for a good stay on Oahu

Family trip with a couple families:
Pros:
Great location
Super friendly hotel staff
Nice Gym
Fast elevators for 100% occupied hotel
Roys restaurant property is top notch and top price
Bell desk and valet were top notch
Cons:
Price gauge: surfboards $60 for 2 hours $100 for dayBikes $100 a day both close at 5:00 (you can rent both down the street for 75% less.
Surf shop not cool. most of the staff were very arrogant. one guy was super helpful.
Concierge way overworked
very 70's. Hotel desperately needs a remodel. AC in rooms is like the little engine that could...puffing and chugging and just barely got there....but dripped. Rusted fixtures and paint old and occasionally peeling
Very isolated and need a car.
Hot tubs are tiny...imagine 40 kids jammed into 15 person hot tub
Music bar "The Surfer" Plays loud and late..on fifth floor and still thumping at midnight. Not good when surfing at 6:00am

Hotel was beautiful on the Vista level, but was showing its age in places. Not a lot of action or warmth in the lobby/main areas of the hotel. It felt very isolated and abandoned in most public areas. Great location for exploring the north shore of Oahu easily, but there are less expensive hotels if you would rather try local beaches, restaurants, food trucks, etc. If you plan on staying budget in the activities they offer because the activities are great, but are an added cost to an already pricey room.

My husband and I had heard great things about Turtle Bay and though we have been to Hawaii many times we had never stayed at Turtle Bay so decided to give it a try and just finished a six day stay there.

There are some great things about the resort. First of all the location is beautiful; the scenery is absolutely stunning. The resort is old but rooms seem to have been redone. We were on the sixth floor facing the ocean with a view that couldn’t be beat. Being on the sixth floor also included a few extras like “breakfast bites” which actually was a full breakfast and then daily goodies left in our room such as chocolates or nuts etc. That was a nice touch. They have Roy’s restaurant on site which is very nice with delicious food. Also the bar by the pool was nice.

Now for the not-so-good. The windy weather makes it very difficult to enjoy the resort. We tried sitting by the pool and even rented a little cabana but the wind was too much. Anything not tied down would blow away. Apparently it’s often windy like this. The other issue with the location is that it’s fairly remote so that if you want to go out to dinner anywhere other than the hotel, you have to drive about 25 minutes which limits your options for dinner.

The other frustration we experienced was that there was a lot of construction going on at the hotel which sometimes made it impossible to sit on our lanai. Between the wind and the noise we weren’t able to enjoy the lanai very much. As part of the construction the main restaurant was closed which limited our dinner choices even more. I understand that hotels have to upgrade and construction may be required but hotels should disclose this in advance and Turtle Bay resort did not. I found that particularly frustrating. We could have easily come at a different time of year. One of the staff told me that construction would be complete by the end of 2022, so they still have a ways to go.

The 2 restaurants other than Roy’s were ok but nothing special,so we had 3 dinners at Roy’s which is really good.

The room was basically fine although there was a weird design to the bathroom. There was a sliding glass barn door for the shower which as also used for the separate toilet area. Also there was no double sink in the bathroom.

I think if we had gone for 2 or 3 days it would have been fine but given the limitations 6 days was way too long.

Our reservation was from 3/22/2020-3/26/2020, obviously during the Covid-19 crisis. Upon arrival, we realized many cancellations had been made due to the sparseness of visitors. We were given a room upgrade, which was appreciated, but mind you, all amenities were not provided with the upgrade, so not much of a big deal.
My problem is the decision made by the owners to close the resort due to financial reasons because of the inability to fill the resort. We were given a phone call with less than 48 hours notice that we would have to vacate the premises and were given a number to a hotel in Honolulu to see if they had rooms available. Honolulu is at the time, the epicenter of the most Corona cases and practically on total lock down. This was a financial decision to close, not a state order.
We had to ask for a pro-rated refund on the resort amenities fees, since so many offerings were not available. No discount on food, beverages or future visits for being kicked out and left to fend for yourself.
These owners should reconsider being in the hospitality business, since they obviously are only concerned about their bottom line and not the hospitable treatment of their guests. They definitely dropped the ball instead of making a good lasting impression on how to treat your guests during a difficult time for everyone. I, among all other guests experiencing this treatment, will not be revisiting or recommending this resort in the future.
Best of luck to the owners, the Blackstone Group, because they’re going to need it if they continue to do business in this fashion.

Aloha. I apologize that we were unable to accommodate you during our hotel's temporary suspension of operations due to the COVID-19 situation. The well-being of our visitors and team members is of paramount importance and we believe it is essential for us to do our part to slow the spread of the virus. The Governor and Mayor have also ordered all incoming travelers to comply with a 14-day quarantine that will hopefully end when the CDC gives Hawaii the "all clear." We would welcome the opportunity to discuss your experience, however, we are unable to identify you through your screen name. Please contact jconching@turtlebayresort.com and reference your review.
