I apologize that I have taken so long to respond. Even though I haven’t been on site for the past two years I recognize the email and know that you have been coming for a long time. It is difficult to know what to say and how to say it in a public forum. TripAdvisor reminds us to not get personal when responding but for me that is hard to do. Yes, there are changes afoot, but change is known to be a good thing too. The new owner has a plan in place to upgrade the property and improve the functionality to fit her vision. The furnishings will be refreshed and the many comments we had of being dated will no longer apply. There is a goal to make The Bayview a showcase for such a beautiful property. I honestly think it will still have the warm and friendly vibe because familiar faces will still be there to greet you. We are so lucky to have a location where the views are outstanding and the peace and quiet of being down on the water is a real plus. You know from experience that the town gets busier with every passing year but yet you turn in the driveway and it all slips away. Her vision also includes attention to detail and it is a top priority. It is the little things that make the greatest impression and she knows that. We also know that change doesn't come without a cost. We have been doing our best for years to not follow the local trend of on the water properties that increase the rates substantially with each passing season. We have wanted it to feel like home with the warm welcome and comfortable surroundings. But like any small business, the cost of doing business grows every year. Since we want to make a stay outstanding we need to meet the customers’ expectations and exceed them. Please don't give up on us yet. Although it will be more expensive you may find that it is truly worth it. We still want you to stay at The Bayview and we want you to feel welcome. Just give us a chance to prove it. I don't think you will be disappointed.

I originally review the Bayview Inn back in 2008. Every word I wrote was true, honest and accurate. My wife and I had stayed there six or seven times over the coarse of those ten years. I have to say that something was missing this time around 2018. I rated it only 4 stars

Thank you for the review and for taking the time to write. I would like to apologize for the delay in responding. These are times of change but that is in no way any excuse for the things you witnessed. The property has undergone some big changes and the staff is working hard to maintain the same feel that you remember. As with any business there are always changes with the personnel, especially in a seasonal business. Better opportunities arise for individuals seeking year round employment, every year there is always some that leave, and some that return. The mention of an unhappy employee was extremely disheartening. Even though I am no longer the manager I know that the current manager has the same customer service philosophy. Matt works hard to make everyone that he encounters feel at home and let them know that they are indeed important to us. Sometimes the need to fill a position requires hiring someone that doesn't quite see it our way, but we try to train them to see the whole picture. Be that as it may, we apologize for the "disgruntled" employee or employees that you encountered. The Bayview has now been sold and the changes will bring more new faces and the return of others. We all anticipate that the new owner will carry on the tradition of personalized and friendly service. There is an enthusiasm there that is contagious and we are excited for the future of The Bayview. Thank you also for staying with us so many times in the past and for the opportunity for us to get to know you. We appreciate the fact that you still intend to return and look forward to making it right!

Thank you! We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay! All the things we do are aimed to give everyone a visit to remember. There are big changes ahead for The Bayview and your comment regarding the decor is duly noted. The Bayview has been sold and the new owner is another Bar Harbor native! Her plans are many and there will be changes in decor and style. There won't be an elevator, it will still be a three story building, and if you aren't staying on the main floor you will still have one flight up the grand staircase or one flight down. The flip side of that is that our bellmen will still be here to carry the luggage! Although it is a new owner our staff will be returning and we will still be pleasant and welcoming, still serving delicious food and still offering the shuttle to town. We think it will be a win win for all! We hope to only enhance the already positive experience that our returning guests have had and allow first time visitors an opportunity to enjoy everything that a vacation should be. Great location, great views, great food and friendly service. We are looking forward to all the wonderful things in store for The Bayview! Thank you again!

Thank you so much for the lovely review! It is always nice to hear such great things and a wonderful way to end our season. I know for a fact that a lot of people (me included!) will miss those afternoon cookies and delicious breakfasts. It can be a long winter for those of us that don't like to cook! We do still get to enjoy the view but it is a bit chilly on the decks when the wind blows and the snow flies! The comment about the ultimate in service is very much appreciated also. We try so hard to make everyone's stay a great one and make the trip to Bar Harbor and Acadia truly memorable. I am at a loss for words and that is not a common thing for me. I can't imagine who would have checked you in with an attitude that was so obviously not our usual style. It was not a greeting that any guest should receive, and definitely not a greeting we are proud of. The decor is a matter of opinion and you made it clear it was not to your liking. Many of our guests find it relaxing and comfortable albeit dated, again just a matter of preference. We work hard to maintain our furnishings and building and are proud of the property as a whole. There is nothing I can do or say that will change how you felt about The Bayview and for that I am sorry. I am glad you enjoyed the view and hope that you enjoyed the breakfast. Thank you also for the review. All opinions matter and I appreciate you sharing yours with us. I just wish we had made a better impression.

What are the rates in late September?
Thank you for inquiring! Our rates in the hotel for late September are $275.00 for an ocean front room with either two queen beds or one king bed. All rooms are oceanfront and include breakfast for two. There is a Maine tax of 9% not included in the rate and additional person rates do apply. We also have ocean view two and three bedroom townhouses and the rate for a two bedroom is $455.00 per night and includes four people and breakfast. A three bedroom townhouse is $505.00 per night and includes up to six people with breakfast. The tax is also the 9% and is not included. If you are interested you should call right away, it looks like a very busy year ahead! Thank you for considering a stay at The Bayview!
