The Harborside Hotel, Spa & Marina is celebrated by many for its prime location near downtown Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, offering stunning harbor views. Guests consistently commend the hotel's cleanliness and the inviting atmosphere, with particular appreciation for the cozy lobby fireplace. While some travelers have reservations about the value, finding the costs high for certain services, others feel the experiences justify the expense. Situated adjacent to the village center by the bay, the Harborside Hotel offers a tranquil respite from the busy village of Bar Harbor. The location offers quick walking access to numerous restaurants and shops while being a short 10 to 15 minute drive to the spectacular Acadia National Park. Bayside rooms offer a breathtaking view of the marina accessible from both the room and patio/balcony. Some noteworthy amenities include free parking, large rooms, and a heated pool and jacuzzi. There is also a few common areas in the hotel where guests can linger with a good book or deck of cards. One classy amenity which we really appreciated after several days of hiking was free laundry service accessible next to the fitness room. Regarding the room, we found it to have well designed furnishing that included a swivel pillowed chair that allows one to pivot from inside conversations to outdoor viewing and a table with easy seating for three. The benches in front of the beds provide a location for both seating as well as luggage access. The patio has teak chairs that are sturdy and comfortable. The beverage service includes water bottles, a refrigerator, a Keurig machine, and a designer 360 Family rectangular ice box. The bathroom had a nautical themed tray with well stocked incidentals including soap that provided a silky full lather. The designer items in the room and bathroom provided a flare of luxury. Room service was very responsive to our request for an extra pillow, glasses, and towels. Would recommend a first floor room on bayside even though there is an up-charge for this. An area for the hotel to enhance would be to provide an overview of hotel amenities upon check-in. We only discovered the laundry room upon passing it in the hallway. We had asked the gentleman who checked us in about laundry facilities in the area and he directed us towards laundromat in the village.

We booked last minute for a mini-moon when our original global honeymoon travel plans were back burnered. We had a 4 night stay in an ocean front room and have no complaints. The beds are incredibly comfy and the curtains make the room very dark, much needed after not sleeping due to wedding stress. The hotel is in the perfect location to walk to all of downtown bar harbor and we enjoyed the convenience of the onsite restaurant. Yes, the spa is closed but you can still access the pool and the hot tub which were quiet and perfect (use those instead of the main pool/hot tub). Breakfast at the hotel was delicious and we preferred it over other places we had eaten. All staff were friendly and kind, everything was clean, and we are already planning a trip back with our friends. Thank you for a fabulous post-wedding getaway - The Quinns

Dear JennMorse, Thank you for taking the time to share your mini-moon experience here at the Harborside. While we missed the spa this year too, we thought it would be the safest to wait until 2021- I am glad you were still able to enjoy the rest of the property amenities! Bar Harbor is a wonderful spot to escape the stress and take in the sights! I am so glad the Harboside was able to host you! We hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back to Bar Harbor! We stayed for several nights at this hotel and resort and it was great.

Check-in was a breeze, and the valets were nice and helpful. You can valet or self park your car. We self-parked and other than one evening, we were able to get space near our room. If you are moving your own luggage, it might be worthwhile to check the location of your room to determine whether there are entrances from the lot that are closer to your room.

The room was a standard king with a balcony facing the parking lot, the balcony was semi-private (some partition from the other balconies). We spent no time on the balcony. The room was nicely sized with a sofa bed and separate desk as well as a TV and cabinet. There was also a fridge with some complimentary Poland Spring water (you can get more at the front desk or in the ice box next to the main entrance). The hotel conveniently had a text option so any needs (fixing a toilet seat, more towels, etc...) could be addressed over text. Overall, a very comfortable room.

The resort was great. There are two pools, but we spent all of our time in the pool near the front. It was never crowded and there is a hot tub nearby which overlooked the harbor. They had one person who took orders, could probably use another person and service was slow and ended at 5 pm.

The tennis courts were on the other side (as is the other pool) and they were fine. We did not get a chance to book a spa appointment.

We ate at the hotel once and the food is good, probably a bit better than most hotel restaurants, but, again, service is slow.

This is a nice resort and a great place to spend a few days.

The experience here was a total disappointment. The hotel in general is very loud - it does not help that there are large gaps underneath the doors entering the rooms, thus you hear everything from down the halls. Our room reeked of smoke the entire time. Considering that we spent 400/night, I would have hoped to have a view of almost anything other than the parking lot. Though I suppose the other option of facing the outdoor pool and commons area would not have been better. There is no room upkeep service, and it's painful trying to get extra bars of soap or shampoo bottles, so prepare to bring your own. WiFi here seems to be weak in many parts of the hotel. Furthermore, this is the only hotel that I've probably ever stayed at that did not provide complimentary breakfast. I had high hopes for this place, although it was an uncomfortable stay, and I will certainly not be coming back.

Dear 789joes, I am saddened to hear you didn't have a wonderful experience here at the Harborside. COVID-19 has temporarily changed the way we do business- including implementing the CDC recommendation of not providing daily housekeeping service to help our guests and our staff safe. We look forward to going back to a new "normal" which includes making it much easier to get things like towels, soaps and daily housekeeping upkeep. We have a wonderful breakfast at La Bella Vita, while not included- we do offer packages that would include breakfast. Just beyond our parking lot, is the water/changing tide for Bar Island. Although we do have some rooms that overlook the parking lot- they still provide a great view of sunset and one of the best locations in downtown Bar Harbor. If your travels bring you back to Bar Harbor, I am in hopes that you will reach out to me personally, we would love the opportunity to show you a true Maine hospitality experience. With Hospitality, Kali Liimatainen

Even from the time of booking, everything went better than expected. As a pet owner, it can be difficult to find upscale accommodations for our family which includes a large older dog. Upon reading the pet policy we noticed there was a weight limit of 30 lbs. per pet. When I called to ask if there was any flexibility on the weight limit, the property said they were very pet friendly and would welcome our dog. The additional fee of $75 per day was on the higher side of what we normally pay, but well worth it for the location and quality of accommodations. Before check in, the hotel called and offered us a direct oean view upgrade for the same rate as the room we originally booked, which was a really nice upgrade to get. Prior to arrival I received a few text notifications to aid in the check in process due to covid since we came from out of state. One notification being a link to a form they needed filled out prior to check in, which would end up expediting check in when we arrived. Upon arriving, the girl at the front desk was very friendly and even smiling which was noticeable even though she was wearing her face covering. She was very informative giving me a list of pet friendly activities, restaurants and shopping locations and then sending a pet bed to our room.. The curb appeal of the property was very nice and interior was clean and smelled nice, and access to the parking lot secure. We had scheduled a whale watching tour a couple days after arriving and asked for pet sitter recommendations and the girl at the desk informed me that typically any of the team members that were off would love to hang out with our pet. Marshall was the guy who happened to be off and volunteered to watch our dog which was going way above and beyond what I would expect from any team. Our trip was eventually canceled due to rough seas, but the offer alone was incredibly nice. I would definitely recommend Harborside and will say that my family will be returning in the not so distant future. I rarely right reviews or through out accolades for just meeting expectations, so this was a very well deserved review for the team at Harborside.

Dear 588mlckh, Thank you so much for taking the time to provide our property such a wonderful review! It was a pleasure hosting you and your adorable pup! We are super pet friendly, a lot of our staff members are away from their dogs at home so working here is a perk because of the amount of dogs we get to see! We have an amazing team and thank you so much for highlighting them as they work tirelessly to ensure our guests have a great experience! i looked very carefully at all the hotel options around Bar Harbor before booking here, but this hotel was a let down, especially for the price we paid.

my fiancé decided to splurge for my birthday trip and booked an ocean front room and requested the highest floor possible. they didn't give us a higher floor, okay fine, maybe it wasn't available, but the room they gave us was way to the right of the resort, so close to the pool that i could hear noise and see another building in front of me, because of these factors i would not consider it true ocean front.

another problem with the hotel was the inconsistent service and cleanliness factor. one would think, especially during a pandemic, that sanitation would be especially important but they missed the mark. everything seemed rather chaotic and less like a well run operation.

when we first got to our room, there was a noticeable amount of hair all over the bathroom sink. it looked like nothing was wiped down. i would have called the front desk, but at check in they told us that our rooms would not have turndown service unless requested in advance, so we set up a timeframe for cleaning when we knew we would be gone the next day. the next day, when we got back, a few hours after the timeframe, no one had come at all. and when i called housekeeping the man apologized and said they would see if they could send someone by later when we would be gone (again). he didn't call back.
the day after we get a text from someone else reminding us that if we need cleaning please set something up... just kind of a headache when it should be simple. i was less concerned about the bed being made than i was about getting basic toiletries dropped off.

while we really enjoyed the pool and hot tub, the pool area was unkempt (there were cups, random pieces of food, and dirty towels strewn about) and not that many people there when we stopped by the first day around 4:30. we were able to get chairs easily but there were no towels or attendants in sight. my fiancé went to the front to ask about towels and they said they would bring some out shortly because they were all in the dryer. after a while, my fiancé gave up and went up to the room to bring down some room towels.

the location of this hotel is great and the outside sure is picturesque, but that's about it. and unlike other Opal properties we've been fortunate enough to stay in (Lake Placid Lodge) we did not feel especially taken care of here at Harborside.

Dear Wrengill, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience here at the Harborside Hotel, Spa and Marina. I am saddened to hear your experience here in Bar Harbor was not one that guests have come to expect. We have a number of different rooms with many different views as well- our oceanfront rooms offer a beautiful view on each floor- I am so sorry we were unable to do a higher floor. Operations have temporarily changed due to COVID-19, to keep both our guests and staff safe. This being said, we are asking guests to set up cleaning service (if they so choose to get housekeeping service) the night before. I apologize that your cleaning serviced was missed, we are looking forward to continuing operations to a new normal as soon as it is deemed safe to do so, where cleaning services are provided in a timely fashion and not on a by request only basis. We have a beautiful property and I am so glad you enjoyed the grounds. I assure you the experience you had here at the Harborside is not the "norm," should your travels bring you back to the Bar Harbor area, I am in hopes you will reach out to me directly, we would love another opportunity to show you the true Maine Hospitality experience here at the Harborside Hotel, Spa and Marina. Sure a front desk person or a manager can make you feel welcomed and appreciated, but this trip it was the housekeeping staff that did it for us. Every day leaving/entering our room, they all had smiles on their faces and were genuinely kind. It made it a pleasure to interact with them in the hallways.
Harborside was in the most perfect location — practically next door to all the docks with the various tours, less than a block from Bar Island, less than a five minute walk to pretty much anywhere in that area. Its location made it nice as you have to pay to park anywhere in Bar Harbor, so we were able to stay parked at the hotel and not worry about finding a spot nor paying to park.
The facility was wheelchair friendly with ramps and elevators. Even the non-ADA rooms were big and easily accommodated a wheelchair (we stayed in a Deluxe King Oceanfront).
While pricey, it is no more expensive than everything else in the area of that caliber.
I would recommend.

We stayed for a few nights and while the location is central and the shops and restaurants are easy to walk to, there is room for improvement on the property itself. Check in was easy and seamless, the staff professional at the desk. So that's fine. Our room (with a kitchenette) was on the first floor - we did not get a sense of great cleanliness. The toaster was full of crumbs, the small liquid soap dish had been opened and the papertowel roll was not new. The room had some carpeting and some hardwood, as well as tile in the bath. I am a germaphobe, so I always wipe the hardwood and tile after getting into a hotel room, and these were not entirely clean. The carpet also looked like it could have used extra vacuuming. The room decor was fine - nautical and all, but the bath could use an update. Also, our room had a balcony but either the cleaning staff did not clean it or "stuff" fell through the cracks from the balcony above, but there were toenail clippings (!) on the balcony floors and crumbs on the chair pillows...
As we walked in and out during out stay, we saw housekeeping clean and it did look like they were cleaning thoroughly (in gloves and masks) but I think they need to pay a bit closer attention. Also, a "clean seal" like some other hotels use would be welcome during this time with Covid and all so we'd know a room has been cleaned well and disinfected etc.

I stayed for 4 nights while visiting Acadia National Park. I opted for a standard room without a guaranteed view, but was pleased that even my balcony that overlooked a parking lot still had a view of the water. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Beds were comfortable and I did not hear much noise from neighbors or from the hallway. The AC was a bit loud and I do wish the sliding doors had a screen door so we could sleep with the door open...but that is minor.

I enjoyed the pool and hot tub which were not too busy. The location right on the water makes it easy to take a quick sunrise stroll along the water. Easy walking distance to restaurants and main strip. Easy drive to Acadia. I would stay here again and recommend it to others. The only thing stopping me from giving 5 stars is they charge what I consider an unethical "resort fee". I realize more and more hotels do this but it is deceitful. Just charge the real cost.

We really enjoyed our stay here. There are 2 pools and 2 big hot tubs, all of which are open during covid. It was easy to keep 6 ft apart. The clubhouse pool has a great view (see pic).

Hand sanitizer dispensers were all over the place and masks were required in hallways.

Our Premium King Standard View room was a bit small and ceilings are kinda low but it was clean and comfortable.

The attached restaurant was good and the hotel location is ideal, right in downtown Bar Harbor.

We had a small fridge and a coffee maker in our room, which was just a standard room with a partial ocean view, no microwave. Be advised the ice machines were not working in early July due to COVID so plan accordingly.
