A beautiful old house in the heart of the village. Lots of character, history in this place. Huge shared space where you could eat your breakfast, have a coffee or just relax. Large room, large bathroom and very quiet. Can walk to all the shops, restaurants right from your place.

The Central House is in a very good location in Bar Harbor and you can park free and walk to shops, restaurants, and bars. A good selection of coffee, tea, and hot chocolate available on the sun porch. No breakfast is served but there are numerous places close by to eat. Our room was 101 and located on the first... Hi Cindy, Thank you for staying with us and for your review. The inn keeper can be anywhere on the premises -- whether in the laundry, in the office, helping housekeepers with bed-making on busy days, etc. -- and so the guest telephone provided is the easiest way to reach us wherever we may be in the building. We are... More

A lovely old house with lots of character. The rooms were a good size, although could have been a little cleaner. The shared space was lovely downstairs so you could relax and enjoy breakfast / a drink on comfortable sofas / chairs. Great location just a few minutes walk from the main street with lots of options for food and... More

This felt like an old boarding room house - I would have liked to know more of its history! Great location with off street parking - you are in walking distance to the village and harbor as well as a short drive to Arcadia State park. Room was clean and bed was ok for comfort, but small (I think it... More

Staying here makes me want to reenact scenes from classic period piece movies! It's even better than what the pictures show! They have cabinets of floral teacups! The rooms are spacious and very well maintained. Everything works fine in the bathroom. WiFi is fine and we found sufficient outlets for charging devices. Restaurants and services are just down the block.

Perfect location, walk to everything. Wonderful room and lots of period antiques. Inn keeper could not have been more accommodating and full of great local lore. Spend an evening on the large front porch with a glass of your favorite beverage.

My cousin and I stayed for 3 nights in a two bed room. The room was clean and comfortable. The owners are very nice and accommodating. The front porch was relaxing to sit on in the evening. Close walking distance from the shops and restaurants. They have a small fridge and ice machine that guests can use. Breakfast is not... More

Stayed here on Friday - Sunday in August. Our room was clean and spacious. The Inn is very nice. The owner and two staff members were helpful and kind when we checked in. I loved the porch (inside and out) and appreciated all of the little touches including a handful of wonderful amenities on the indoor porch - shared refrigerator... More

We stayed at The Central House and were overjoyed with the entire experience. It is just off the main street in Bar Harbor and afforded us free parking so that we could enjoy Bar Harbor at our leisure by foot. The Bed & breakfast format afforded us a glimpse of what local cuisine was all about and I crave another... More

You know those museums that you go to and you get to look in the rooms of how people used to live in the 1800's, well this place is exactly just like that, except you have your own bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. We had a room on the 2nd floor facing the street. It was cool the weekend... More

Thanks so much for reviewing. It is true that not every place or every room is for everyone (we have many repeat guests for our front rooms.) Had we known there was bothersome street noise, we'd have been happy to turn on the central air. User-friendly heat pump minisplits, installed on the third floor for this season, are a hit;... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Central House was built as a guest house in 1887. Tourism was just getting started in Bar Harbor. Much has changed since then and The Central House is now right down the street from many Bar Harbor shops, tours, restaurants, and the Island Explorer shuttle bus to Acadia National Park and Sand Beach. We offer Maine-roasted coffee and a selection of teas at 8 o'clock every morning. While we do not serve food, we provide a $10.00 gift card per room per day to lunch and dinner favorite Geddy's Restaurant facing the harbor. Our living room, front porch, and coffee area provide comfortable places to sit and enjoy your own food and drink and wireless internet is complementary throughout the house. Our rooms are simple and cozy with A/C, cable TV, and private bathrooms. Each room is uniquely furnished and decorated and many returning guests reserve their favorite rooms year after year. Rooms have a queen-sized bed, except Room 206 with a king-sized bed, and Room 204 has an extra twin-sized bed in addition to the four-posted queen to comfortably sleep three. We have been told by many guests that they find The Central House is a great value for the charm and ideal location. We hope to hear from you this season! ... more   less
