Stayed at the Rex Hotel for 2 days during our California trip, when we arrived I was
disappointed to find a small, dismal looking hotel with a front entrance that was decidedly tatty. Our room was extremely small and the air conditioning noisy. Most unimpressive,...More
Dropped in off the street, and was offered a choice of rooms, staff were very friendly and happy to help ( and very honest about the need for air con on a warm day, as not all rooms came with it standard). Quirky, cute hotel,...More
This is a fantastic traditional townhouse hotel - dark wood, paintings, books and and palms - two minutes from Union Square. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There's a lovely library bar downstairs where residents are offered a free glass of wine in the...More

Dear Ms. Hartley,
Thank you so much for taking the time to review the Hotel Rex on Tripadvisor. As the General Manager of the Hotel Rex I'm very pleased by your positive comments and hope to welcome you back to San Francisco soon!
Originally home to rallies supporting the Union Army in the Civil War, this grand square has become the city's premier shopping and entertainment district containing the largest number of upscale department stores, chic boutiques, art galleries and theatres in the city. It's a large open area where tourists and locals gather, watch cable cars and crowds go by, enjoy a snack, or plan their day of shopping and
sightseeing, If feeling the pulsating energy of the city is on your agenda, Union Square is the place to soak it in.

Hello and thank you for choosing us to stay with. It depends. If you are going to use your car valet is worth it at 50 $ a night. But if you were not going to use the car a lot with park and stay (and there are 3 less then a block away.) at 30 $ a night is best. Public transportation is easy and quick here In San Francisco. You of course and park in the white zone out front of the hotel and check in. We look forward to having you and let me know if you have any other questions.
