I stayed here on a rainy day this week and it was cozy indeed. You will have to pay a bit more, but I think it's worth it for the character. The rooms are little, the stairs narrow, the street below is abuzz with people...More
The hotel is beautifully maintained and the rooms are cozy and tidy. This is a real "old time hotel" with charm and personality. Others have mentioned the stairs and they are no joke! But don't let that discourage you if your looking for charm and...More
Great little hotel right in the heart of Little Italy in North Beach. Great base to explore SF. Fishermans Wharf, Chinatown, Union Square all short walks. North Beach great bars and restaurants, and of course Beat Generation bookshop City Lights.
Staff were friendly, rooms small...More
The host was friendly and the room was clean which might be enough for some visitors, but coming from overseas and carrying a lot of luggage I was disappointed to find that we had to walk up a number of stairs to get to our...More
We picked Hotel Boheme because we expected to spend most of our time walking around the North Beach area. If that is our focus as well, this is an excellent choice. The room was small but very comfortable, especially the bed. Staff very nice. This...More

The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style.
Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.

The closest garage is on Vallejo Street, just past Stockton. It is about a two block walk. If you have a lot of luggage you can stop in front of the hotel and unload it and then go to the garage. We had a couple of rollers, so just pulled them from the garage. Parking in SF is pretty steep ($$$), but if you need a car it comes with the territory. In addition, to Cafe Trieste there are numerous other coffee places and restaurants in the neighborhood.

"We had a room on the street and it was quite lovely, even with all the noise."
