User reviews are spot on--listen to them! Great location right in North Beach, walk to everything. We overlooked the street, so of course there is typical city noise, but not as bad as other areas of SF. Staff knew the area extremely well and had great restaurant and night life recommendations--and MANY of them!!! Wish we'd had more time and...

Awesome location, close to everything, and extremely keen staff willing to serve and help you anytime. Although rooms are a bit too small, they are still comfortable enough and quite clean. Perhaps only complaint would be that the rooms facing over Columbus Avenue get a bit noisy late in te nights and early in the morning. Everything else, just fine...

The Hotel Boheme seems to have a great write up - so we booked the hotel for the end of our road trip round Nevada, Arizona and CA. We found the hotel disappointing for the cost of the room. Throughout our travels, all the hotel rooms we rented had coffee/ tea making facilities, fridge, some had microwave and extras such...

A small comfortable boutique hotel in the style of the 50's beat generation. 2 of the staf have worked there for over 30 years! A lovely touch is the sherry put out at 6 pm free of charge for an aperitif before going out to dinner. Tel the staff where you're planning to eat out and get a yeah or...

A little hotel in the heart of North Beach. Location, Location, Location!!! This tiny little establishment is old, out of date, a little shabby and yet wonderful. The street front door is almost invisible among the myriad of Italian restaurants, Pastry shop, Art Gallery doors that line Columbus Ave. On entry to the hotel one has to walk up and...

This little gem of a hotel is located in the heart of North Beach (SF's Little Italy). The location is an easy walk to the Financial District, Chinatown, and Fisherman's Wharf. The hotel is a second and third floor walk up so you will need to carry your bags. The front desk staff greet you by name, ask how your...

We felt we had been transported into a different, more interesting and happier era, but with all the modern amenities one could ask for. Our room was just lovely - beautifully decorated and very comfortable, and the extra touches in this hotel -like the complimentary sherry - made us feel cozy and cossetted. The concierge was a true professional and...

My girlfriend and I spent three nights last week at the Hotel Boheme. In San Francisco, its location simply can't be beat. Comprised of the second and third floors above the famous Stella Bakery, Hotel Boheme sits in the heart of North Beach, on Columbus. Just a short walk in any direction will take you other wonderful SF neighborhoods: Chinatown,...

This unique property may not be for everyone. It is a small hotel, two floors with no elevator, no parking, no restaurant, no fitness club, but plenty of atmosphere. The front desk was always helpful and there is complementary sherry in the lobby in the evenings, if you don’t drink sherry then, never mind. The room was small but well...

If you are a certain sort of visitor to SF, you will love this hotel. The location cannot be beat if you want to stay in one of SF's great neighborhoods, North Beach. It's the old bohemian/beatnik district and the Italian district, and it borders on Chinatown, and there are endless choices within just a few blocks walking distance for...

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
