The best thing this little inn has going for it is where it's located. Washington Sq is a happening area and it's also fairly close to nearby attractions. Beyond this I would probably not stay here again. The exterior is very welcoming as well as...More

We are disappointed you were not satisfied with your stay. Unfortunately you stayed with us during the hottest day of the year. We do have ceiling and portable fans in the room and just as you stated we do not have air conditioning (most small...More
My husband & I have grown fond of bed & breakfasts in our travels, and we weren't disappointed with our stay at the Washington Square Inn. Here are a few perks: an ideal location for walking to the Ferry Building, Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown, Coit Tower,...More

Thank you so much for taking time to write us a review, we really appreciate your insights on staying at the Washington Square Inn and all your comments on our neighborhood and dining experience.
Best Regards, Maria, Dan and the staff at WSI.
This is my second stay here. Granted, the rooms are small - they are more like standard European rooms. If a large room is important, this is probably not the place to stay. But if you are interested in a great location surrounded by fabulous...More
From the moment we arrived and were greated with a glass of wine to the moment we departed everything was excellent. Our room was beautiful and lacked nothing. The whole property is warm and inviting. The service and attention was top drawer. We would look...More
We wanted to stay in the North Beach area. Everyone said stay here. It was definitely a convenient location for this area, but we would never stay here again. The staff was nice. The rooms were clean, but dark and to be honest a bit...More

We are very sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us.
But we would like to address a few statements you made; our front door is always locked for security of our guests, but - every guest’s room card also opens the front door...More
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style.
Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
