Beautiful property on top of Nob Hill. Short walk to Union Square and China Town... made the mistake of trying to walk from Powell BART station to the hotel. When I say it is on top of Nob Hill, it is on a VERY STEEP hill. Walked half way up Powell Street dragging our luggage. Google said it was 15...

We spent our honeymoon here, and the staff is reliably helpful. (except for the Top of the Mark maître d ( see below)) The rooms are tastefully beautiful. Our view over Nob Hill was a great thing to wake up to. And everything is Downhill from here! It is a historic hotel, and our only complaint was that we had...

This hotel is nothing special. The room size and amenities were typical of a 3-star motel (but at much higher prices). The hotel shows its age and could use a deep scrub -- see photo of the grime on the door to my room. Moreover, the hotel during my stay was not cleaned regularly -- note photos of trash in...

For our first time in San Francisco, after a bit of looking around I settled on the Mark Hopkins Intercon at Nob Hill. I'm an Intercontinental Gold Ambassador, but it's not always a given that I'll stay at their properties. I chose this hotel based on price, my perceived value for money and the fact that it had a Club...

Does what it says on the tin (practical city hotel) but we found the location less than satisfactory - neither here not there (not Union Square, not Fisherman's Wharf). We are a family of four and we spent most of our time at the Wharf and would have been better placed there. I would suggest this hotel is better for...

This is an amazing property. Staff was also superb. I stayed there for the American Bar Assn Conference and also dined on property. Every meal was stellar. We were fortunate to have a club level room and the club lounge was perfect in all respects. Next time I am headed to San Francisco, I will stay at the IC-Mark Hopkins....

Stayed here a couple nights on a business trip. Room was the size of an old hotel in NYC:cozy but functional. Top of the Mark was a great disappointment, not because it was so foggy that you couldn't see passed the reflection on the windows, but because it is much smaller than I thought it would be, the food choices...

Other than drinks at the Top of the Mark, there was not much going on at this hotel, which can be a good... Our room (seventh floor king) was spacious enough for two and very clean. Stayed for 4 days at the Mark Hopkins San Fran with my nearly 80 year old mother and 5 year old daughter. The hotel is in a prime location for sightseeing - you are literally steps away from 2 cable car lines. We found the Powell lines to be very busy and several had to pass before we could get...

We chose the hotel for the location and the large room reserved. The service is extremely poor, the hotel is an example of the badly managed staff. Service Front desk took a while to check us in: the room was not ready after 2 pm so we had to wait for almost 2 hours. At front desk the staff was...

Staying in Nob Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Nob Hill
Swanky and stylish, Nob Hill sits in the heart of the city and is home to amazing architecture and views. The hike to the top can be a challenging workout for those who forego a cable car ride, but they will be rewarded with some of the city’s most beautiful architecture adorning its peak. Originally populated with mansions after the Gold Rush, most if not all were devastated in the 1906 earthquake and fire that followed. Luckily all is not lost; storied hotels and Grace Cathedral surround Huntington Park. Having a drink or dinner while taking in the sunset and views at the "top of the Mark" is tough to beat.
