Very good for what you pay. However, the place is old and the hallways and rooms have an old hotel smell. My party and I found the bed to be way too soft and the lack of power outlets was a bit annoying. Fun thing they have is a popcorn machine occasionally in the evening.

I stayed at the Chancellor Hotel for 3 nights in February 2024. I arrived over 2 hrs early and was allowed to check in early to a room on the 4th floor. I found the room to be clean and the bed comfortable. I did find ants in the bathroom but after I told one of the housekeeping staff, it was taking care of immediately and I didn’t have an issue. The cookies everyday were my favorite dessert. Friendly Staff, Great location. Love the bartender Alicia. Trolley car right outside hotel that goes to Fishermen Wharf. BART train within walking distance to hotel which is an easy ride from the airport. I recommend the Swedish pancakes at the restaurant next door. My only regret is I didn’t ask what the brand of the mattress was.

Chancellor hotel is in a perfect location near Union Square and the Cable Cars (no noise in room at all). It is in walking distance to many great restaurants and shopping places like Macy's. Parking was very near and safe. They provide apples, tea and coffee and delicious cookies in the lobby. Check in went perfectly and the entire hotel staff was welcoming and friendly. I forgot my scarf to hotel and they sent it to my home adress (Europe!). The best customer service we had seen! If I visit SF again, I will definitely stay in this hotel again.

The only place I stay in SF! I still have not met the legendary Wes but his direction is the reason for 19 years of consistently good stays! The lounge happy hour and discount coupon was a nice way to start the evening! This location will give you great access to all things SF! Easy transportation access from this location to get you everywhere efficiently. As Wes likes to say, Read the reviews BEFORE you book. It's an authentic boutique hotel with character. It's got what you need for a comfortable and efficient stay but is not a modern Marriott or chain hotel.

Great location. Boutique historic hotel. We loved the location on Union Square with a supermarket close by and trams running along the street. We like walking and despite the hills walked to Fisherman’s Wharf, Chinatown, Coit Tower and Lombard Street. It was a perfect location to get the train to Chase Centre for basketball with a Union Square- Powell st stop. Likewise from SFO airport the train to Powell St and then it was a 5 minute walk to hotel.

I enjoyed my stay here. A decent place. The positives. Location. It's just by Union Square so all the major stores are nearby (Nike, Macys, Levis etc). Also close to grocery store (Walmart) and coffee places. Just a 5 minute walk to Powell Street BART. Staff. Very knowledgeable and helpful I had several queries and these were all answered. The room. Beds comfortable. TV service excellent great range of channels including you tube. Bath area ok. Safe included. Extras. Complementary fruit downstairs along with tea, coffee, water and popcorn. Negatives. Noise. Late night music goes onto 10.30pm and given its downtown you get all the usual noise (emergency service vehicle's, drunk people). WiFi. Spotty at best although I believe there is a pay option where you get faster speeds. Decent overall and I would definitely consider staying here again.

Terrific and safe location for downtown and very friendly staff. The size of the room and the bathroom was 1930 style , so small and tight. Difficult to work or move around in the room. But the super comfortable beds and pillows, the basic but welcome amenities in the bathroom and the friendly staff all made it a very nice stay. The cookies that are available all day were delicious!

We loved the hotel location. Very easy walk up from Powell Street station from the airport BART and shops nearby. Cable cars very close (disrupted due APEC but not hotel’s issue of course). We found San Francisco to be very expensive so a 3 night stay costing $360 was a bargain. They provide tea and cookies in lobby as well as bath salts and a small duck in bathroom (he is coming home with me). They listened to our requests and gave us a top floor quieter room. We also got a bottle of bubbles for our anniversary. I would definitely stay again but not in height of summer. Room was warm which was fine this month but would not want to be in there with no air conditioning in hot summer.

Location is superb. Central to everything - Union Square, Market Street, car rental down in Mason Street, safe and secured parking up in Powell Street, 2 mins to Walgreens to get your day stocked up with snacks and drinks, a minute to Powell-Hyde Cable Car station/stop, McDonald’s, and Macy’s 😊. I’d say it’s pretty safe to stay here with families as well. Our stay went well, and thankfully with no hiccups. Hotel wise, also just a right fit. Rooms a bit small, but enough for a family of 3 like us. Front desk and concierge very, very helpful and accommodating. Oh yes, the free coffee/tea, popcorn, and cookies - yes, cookies all in the lobby gave us pleasant entries and exits from/to the hotel. A great stay.
