Best Place to Stay in San Francisco
We stayed at the Fairmont Heritage for 3 nights over the July 4th holiday in a 2-bedroom Bayview residence. We visited San Francisco to celebrate our daughter’s 18th birthday (on July 4), and to have one more family holiday before she went off to university. Our stay at the Fairmont far exceeded expectations. Jordan, thank you so much for booking us in the Bayfront apartment. The fireworks were spectacular – the hotel staff set up seating on the Fairmont’s private veranda and serve complementary wine while guests enjoy one of the finest views of the bay & fireworks.
We greatly appreciated the impeccable staff, Azziz, Emer, Jordan, Marracco, Marco, Tito – thank you for anticipating needs so impressively. I couldn’t capture everyone’s name since so many staff work behind the scenes to make the entire experience wonderful for the guests. It was so lovely to feel able to entirely relax and savor the luxurious and beautiful amenities. The 2-bedroom residence is far superior to any Airbnb situation – largely because you can rest assured that Fairmont luxury and quality is guaranteed here. We had a full kitchen and washer + dryer. Two ensuite bathrooms, living room, dining room, and an incredible Bayview. My husband and I enjoyed having our morning coffee – and then afternoon wine - outside on the private veranda that overlooks Ghirardelli Square and the San Francisco Bay. It was the only time on our holiday that we had the chance to simply sit and read a book. Such luxury.
The location is great for walking – however, we are a family that doesn’t mind walking a lot. If you prefer driving – the complimentary valet parking makes it easy. We look forward to our next stay!

We stayed for 6 nights at the property in March 2022, in one of the two bedroom suites with a view of the Bay. The accommodation was lovely, with comfortable beds, a fireplace, stylish furnishings, and it was a very generous size. The view from our bedroom window was gorgeous, and the atmosphere of this converted factory, with exposed brick and quirky spaces is very unique. Our unit was also very well equipped with everything we needed to prepare a meal when we wanted, and it was supplied with luxurious toiletries, robes and towels. The size and layout were perfect for a family, offering plenty of space and privacy for myself my husband and our adult children. We were there to visit one of our daughters who had moved to San Fran, and a couple of nights she stayed over with us and the pull out in the living room easily allowed for 5 adults to be comfortable in the apartment ( indeed, I think with the pull out the unit would be comfortable even for 6 people). The accommodation is really a high end super comfortable full apartment, so it felt like a home away from home, but with full housekeeping services! My daughter took full advantage of the large soaker tub, and as we all needed to get a little work done while we were visiting, it was easy for each of us to find our own spot to be on a computer, or alternatively relax in front of the fireplace or TV.
The public spaces of the property are also terrific, offering a couple of huge outdoor decks with fire pits that were great for sitting out on a cool evening. The deck on the second floor with a panoramic view of the Bay was especially fabulous, and we had a little wine and cheese visit with some friends out there one night that was wonderful. The property's location, attached to the shops and restaurants of Ghiradelli square and easy walking distance to the bay, and Fisherman's wharf, as well as to Russian Hill, was super convenient and made the stay relaxing as we could grab a bite whenever we wanted at one of the nearby restaurants and go for beautiful walks along the water straight from the hotel.
The thing that really set the hotel apart, though, was the service. Without exception every staff person I had contact with was smiling, helpful, and super accommodating. I have travelled extensively and can't recall any place I've been where the staff were as noticeably pleasant. They really went the extra mile to be helpful. We will definite come back!!

I find the hotel administration very disorganized. They do not seem to have a good system set up. Reservation was made, and email had difficulty coming to customer. Membership with ACCOR was not automatic, and reservation did not go to ACCOR. I will have to check on that, since the expense of our stay was high, and wish to make sure that credit goes to account for points. Otherwise, the reception etc and all staff very helpful, polite, and not overbearing as I was fearful of, being '5 star' hotel. Scenery was great, and according to the advertisement, more than just the living area has the bay view. I find the living area huge, and was a little disappointed that none of bedroom had view except to street. There was some performance noise from the 'street'. Luckily it eventually died down around bedtime. The convenience of our grandchildren enjoying the beach, the shops, the ice cream eatery were just steps below. Wish we had more time, checking out @10am, checking in @4pm, is too stringent for such a pricey place. It was memorable for us, especially how our young family enjoyed everything, including cable car station just steps away. Lovely fireplace in patio warm cold air. Nice wharf restaurants down the street, convenience, convenience said it all!

I researched just about every hotel in San Francisco but kept coming back to this beautiful place. The location alone was a no brainer but the rustic charm had me. My friend and I unanimously agreed this was the place to celebrate her 50th birthday! Great decision! From the start the customer service stood out. I called ahead to set up a special welcome gift in our room and Jason went above and beyond in assisting with the details. He suggested a florist, made arrangements for chocolates and wine, and also made some wonderful suggestions for restaurants in the area. Upon arrival our check in was seamless…We were greeted by a gracious and professional valet named Azziz who escorted us to our room and was very thorough going over our amenities . We definitely had the best room in the house, a 2 bedroom/2 bath suite with a kitchen, washer/dryer, a fireplace and a beautiful fire pit right outside our room. The view of the bay and Alcatraz was amazing! The Ghirardelli chocolates, wine and beautiful flowers were the perfect touch. Throughout our stay, we were impressed by the cleanliness of the hotel and surrounding square, the ease of getting in and out, (we used the valet and we texted when we were ready to go so our car was always waiting), the fact that we always felt safe and secure, and the convenience of the location can’t be beat! We were minutes away from almost every attraction and restaurant we had on our itinerary! The ONLY drawback was the lack of a restaurant for breakfast or room service, (maybe pandemic related?) but when you’re minutes away from everything you could possibly want, it wasn’t missed. All in all we had an amazing stay, and when I come back to this beautiful city, there’s no place I’ld rather be! Thank you to the Fairmont Heritage for helping us make such a memorable experience!

The location in the square is great - you can shop for chocolate and have several eating choices a few steps away.
The view from the Mustard Terrance on a clear day is breathtaking and the activity in the bay is always interesting to observe from the terrace, preferably with a glass of pinot in your hand.
Concierges are friendly and knowledgeable and butlers were really helpful with my golf clubs and other bags.

Outstanding 5-Star experience. Wonderful place for a family stay in San Francisco. The residence is in the backside of Ghirardelli Square and consists of all suites, up to 3 bedrooms. The property is managed by the famous Fairmont Hotel chain and is used for their fractional ownership program, but many of the units are also available for booking by the public.
The amenities and services are all quite high end, as are the prices. Although we booked ours online (via Kayak/Expedia) and got a great deal about 40% off, down from a typical of about $1,000 per night. Location is spectacular in SF...just upstairs from the Ghirardelli chocolate store, with a private patio that overlooks the Ghirardelli promenade, a block from Fisherman's Wharf, 20 minutes stroll from the Ferry Building and their fabulous farmers market and a short jog or ride to the Golden Gate Bridge.
Service was impeccable - great interactions at front desk, bell hop, etc. Another nice benefit is the washer and dryer in each unit. Very handy with three kids!
We really enjoyed our stay at the Fairmont Heritage Place and will certainly return.

Post Covid, many luxury, hotels, cut back on services. Principal am on those was food service. Although that may have been understandable, during the height of the pandemic, and even during recent staffing shortages, those times have changed.
Every luxury hotel of the caliber of the Fairmont has reverted to fundamental services. Basic among those is breakfast, especially for the business traveler. It is inexcusable to charge the rates that are being charged, and to expect clientele to make fundamental compromises.
In addition, the hotel facilities were tired. The fitness center was old

Dear davidlW5361YS, We appreciate your feedback on your stay. As a residential property, and not a traditional hotel, we do not provide any food and beverage offerings on site. We provide this information directly on our website, and even right here on TripAdvisor as well. This predates the pandemic, and is not related to COVID-19 cutbacks on services. All of our services have returned to pre-pandemic levels. Warm Regards, Daniel

Outstanding accommodations, great location and views of the Bay!
Being next to the Bay and Marina, it is real value for money to step out and take a long walk by the Bay to Golden Gate Bridge with a stop at Palace of Fine Arts and Crissy Field. Several outstanding restaurants within walking distance!

It is just a very special place with unique ambience, Ghirardelli square is quite location, great for morning walk or run by the bay extended to Marina district, but still close to Wharf and Italian North beach with all the life.
Property provides spacious residencies with truly all amenities and services one may need.

A dream come true property, this is what service is all about. The team at the Fairmont Heritage Place will delight your soul.
Outstanding 5 star experience. The service was impeccable from all staff members. Initially, we only booked for a 2 week stay and kept extending, for another 5 months while we were remodeling our home. We stayed in a beautiful 2 bedroom suite with high end amenities, including a full kitchen and washer and dryer in every residence, which is very difficult to find in San Francisco. Along with my family being extremely happy with our stay, our dog had a fabulous time as well, as they are pet friendly and supplied him with a dog bed, dog bowls, and dog treats. The doorman loved to give him treats as we would come and go.
Besides staying in luxury, you are in a prime and safe location, just upstairs from Ghirardelli Square. You are also in close walking distance from Fisherman’s Wharf, North Beach, Fort Mason, and the Marina District.
The Mustard Terrace was our favorite part of the hotel. It has spectacular views of Alcatraz, the bay and the world’s famous Ghirardelli sign above. We loved hanging out on the comfy outdoor couches by the fire pit, day or night. The hotel also offers a complimentary generous wine and cheese hour every Wednesday and Friday which was a wonderful perk.
We can’t thank the entire staff enough who went out of their way to make our stay feel like home. I can honestly say, the staff treated everyone like family! A few of them are Marco, Stephen, Aziz, Ryan, YuMi, Jean, Jason, Jeff, Asim, Lucia, Michelle, Johnson, Byron, The housekeeping team, Dallas, Corina, and Sarah. And of course the managers Jonathan, Dan, and Jessica.

Dear Shev61,
Our fitness center was refreshed in 2018 with the most common equipment such as; treadmill, elliptical, stationary bikes, free weight, active work space with yoga mats, bench and is open 24/7.
We do also offer complimentary Fairmont Fitness apparel and bikes for our Le Club Accor Hotel Members.
Thank you for your question.
We hope to Welcome you really soon at the Fairmont Heritage Place Ghirardelli Square.
Emilie Inestroza
Residence Services Manager
Yes, we do have a small fitness center, with 2 treadmills, 2 bikes, a full set of free weights, and a total body cable machine.
We had a city view and had street views out the windows. We weren’t looking at a brick wall. If you are concerned and that’s important to you, i’d pay for the bay view. There are 2 buildings that are attached so I’m sure it just depends which building and room you’re in.
Helpful hint: we used the courtesy car to go everywhere. I think they’ll take you within a 2 mile radius. They will pick you up, too. A tip to them as a thank you. It’s a lot nicer car than any Uber!
