Love Kimpton hotels and the Alton is great. Enjoyed ourselves at the complimentary wine hour and the bed was really comfortable. Touches like the in room record player gives a Soho House feel to the interiors. Valet parking is expensive but not too bad considering the location. Our room was connecting and unfortunately the people in the room next door were drunk and rowdy and I think throwing up late at night. My advise is to avoid a connecting room as the walls are paper thin.
Stylish remodel of an old IHG property. This Kimpton is not only close to Fisherman's Wharf but an easy walk to Ghirardelli Square, North Beach and Fort Mason. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. The hotel restaurant isn't open until August but plenty of dining options are close by. Mary and Edwin provided great service at the front desk and Paul was always asking if we needed help. Very friendly staff and great happy hour! We'll definitely be back.
Full disclosure: I have worked in hospitality for over 10 years at a variety of properties throughout New York State. I have seen the ins and outs of what it takes to provide a service to guests (front desk, sales, events, housekeeping, and food + beverage). This makes me super empathetic to employees of hotels I stay at, but it also makes me have incredibly high standards. I am not one to leave reviews unless there is something I feel the world truly needs to know before booking a property. With that, I think it is imperative that anyone looking at the Kimpton Alton Hotel know that this is a phenomenal property with exceptional hospitality (shout out to Dean!). The room was perfectly curated and a great size. The mattress was the best I have slept on in a long, long time. It was clear that whoever designed the space was thoughtful in all of their decisions (the only feedback is that I didn't have an outlet near the closet space, so trying to hang a garment to steam it was impossible). We saw an employee in the hall and, in passing, asked for a towel refresh; we had new towels in moments. Not minutes. Moments. It was almost magic how they pulled it off so quickly. Everyone we encountered, from the front desk to baristas, to housekeeping, was incredibly kind. The gym was on the smaller size but filled with amazing equipment. Peloton bikes and smart treadmills, a variety of weights, and great views overlooking their rooftop garden. I could really go on forever listing every detail of what made this stay so magical, but I'll recommend you book a night and experience it for yourself. Finally, because I know none of this magic would have happened without the employees, I think it is important to note how Dean went above and beyond to make our trip even more memorable. From checking in when passing us in the hall to finding out I have a sweet tooth and leaving a little bowl of treats for when we came back after dinner, he made us feel like we were the only guests in the hotel. I didn't get a chance to meet management formally, but I want to send a virtual high-five for the wonderful team you have. I will absolutely be booking again (and convincing as many people as I can to visit too). Bravo.…
My wife and I were a tad apprehensive when we booked the hotel. It was for 5 days over a weekend. However, immediately on arrival we were put at ease. We arrived early with hopes of leaving our bags until later. Although we could not see her smile through her mask, our hostess Mary greeted us with such delight and told us our room was immediately available. We requested a coffee machine for our room and within minutes a Nespresso unit arrived with several capsules. We had a two queen bed unit with a view of the bay. The panorama did however include a pre view of the parking lot. Notwithstanding, the beds and pillows were very comfortable, the room although a tad small was clean and bright and relatively quiet. There was plenty of water pressure. We did not participate in the daily happy hour events as we found it quite noisy. We are an older retired couple and found more comfort sharing a bottle of chilled Chardonnay in our room and drifting early to the land of nod (NOT) Yes, there is a small fridge. Our only disappointment was the restaurant. There are many breakfast nooks near by and great dining minutes with an Uber. Highly recommend for a couples get away.…
We had a wonderful experience staying here. The staff were all really kind, friendly, and helpful. We absolutely loved our room, it was beautiful and so comfortable. It had cool amenities like a bluetooth speaker and a record player with a few records to enjoy. We were able to check out a few more records from their collection in the lobby that has a great selection. We were pleasantly surprised by the happy hour in the lobby that even had a DJ, it was awesome! Checkout was really easy, and it was super convenient that we could text the valet so our car was ready by the time we got downstairs. We were bummed when our stay was over, but we will definitely be back!
The hotel is in a great location next to Fisherman's Wharf. The room provided is nice, clean and cosy. Loved the drinks hour daily. They honoured the Secret Password during check-in, and provided additional items. Will definitely stay there again in the future.
This hotel is amazing , it’s so cute and stylish. The staff are absolutely amazing ! The vibes are here always between 5pm and 6 for there guest happy hour. What’s not to be happy about the ?! Definitely a must stay always.
Fantastic hotel! Great location and rooms. The rooms are fun with record players and Bluetooth speakers. The wine receptions each night were fun. The staff was extraordinary. They helped us with a reservation issue due to a third party booking platform. They did not have to help, but they went above and beyond to make it right. Thank you!
My wife and kids are in the US for the first time while I am working back in Australia. It also coincides with my wife's special birthday celebrations, I let the hotel know about this in advance, and they could not have been more brilliant and thoughtful. The family had just been on a long flight from Australia, the hotel let them check in early, they also left some great personal touches in the room, and have been so welcoming making them feel like a home from home. Big congratulations and thank you to all the staff at the hotel for truly making them feel special and welcome.
The location is wonderful and the hotel is clean. However, the hotel does not have a business center and really doesn’t even print your boarding passes for you. They claim they will but even when I provided every detail and all the information they said they don’t go on the airlines sight to do this for you. What hotel in this day and age doesn’t have an available business center?? To accommodate printing your own boarding passes. Typical SF - anything goes. Really???
