I stayed in this hostel for 4 nights. I was deciding between this one and the second HI at Fishermans Wharf. I had decided for this one and it was a great choice! Great location, few steps from Westfield Center, few steps from Cable car stop. Lovely environment and friendly staff. I really enjoyed my stay there! Highly recommended to...

What a great location, to use as a central base in San Francisco. Just two blocks from Powell St., and the famous cable car terminal. Also the BART rail transport, with a direct frequent link to San Francisco Airport. Staff are very friendly, helpful, and chatty. A decent breakfast is included in the price. With access to a kitchen, lounge,...

Nice hostel at a great location. Rooms, common bathrooms and laundry room were very clean. Staff was friendly and courteous. They also provide complimentary breakfast. There is a parking garage across the street ($35 per night which is average around the city). In that same building, there is a hertz and enterprise. And few stores nearby offer airport shuttle for...

I would say HI San Francisco Downtown is a little bit on the pricey side, but you really cannot beat it in terms of location and service provided. It's so easy to get around and see things from where it is, and on top of that it has a really awesome vibe. The people there are very friendly. Free breakfast...

(+) Really great location. Friendly, nice and helpful staff. Simple but delicious breakfast - pb, bananas, bagels, instant oatmeal. Free coffee in a lobby. (/) Streets are noisy, windows are not soundproof. But they do have a bowl filled with earplugs on the reception that work really really well!

When I suggested to my partner that we stay in a hostel he was a bit concerned, but after reading the reviews I convinced him that this sounded, and looked, like a great place to stay, for an affordable price. You did not let us down HI-San Francisco! The hostel is in a convenient location a few blocks from Union...

Private room with bathroom. Inexpensive stay in San Francisco. Bus service is only 1 block away. Nice facility and very friendly staff. First time hostel stay and would definitely recommend. Clean comfortable place to enjoy hilly SF and rest your weary feet. We are 60 plus and felt very welcomed and secure there. Street noise but that's to be expected...

The location was pretty good. There were lots of various common areas where you could hang out with comfy lounge areas. The wifi was fast. The beds were comfy and had little privacy screen, USB ports and multiple power points with a shelf for your stuff.
