I was put in this hotel by my hosts from UCSF. The guy who greeted me was exceptionally pleasant and professional but the smell in this building was intolerable, the bathroom looked terrible and so did the carpet in the room... I stayed in the room for less than 10 min (the bare minimum that took me to book another...

Dear Jeka : Let me start by apologizing for the inconvenience caused to you. The Stanyan Park Hotel is one of the longest running hotel in San Francisco's history , operating almost continuously since 1905. The building is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. We try to maintain the Victorian charm of the hotel and are aware that...

Although this is an older hotel, it was a great experience. There were four of us and we rented two rooms in the front of the hotel. They were spacious and very clean. The staff was most accomodating especially Janet at the front desk. Will be back.

Though it's a hotel, it's more like B&B to me. If you don't look for anything fancy, just care for an inexpensive short stay in a comfortable room with a simple breakfast near Golden Gate Park, this is it. By the way, some reviews mentioned about unfriendly staffs. I met 4 of them. 3 were very nice. Another was rather...

We spent four nights there last weekend, and had a very positive experience. Our room was small but immaculate and comfortable- OK the walls are pretty thin and there was no fridge in the room or bed-side table on one side of the bed but this is a B&B not a hotel. Location is particularly good for visits connected to...

I get it, the city is expensive. However, if the price is lower than other hotels in the city you shouldn't be expecting a 4* experience. That said, I couldn't find any outright "I wouldn't stay here again" problems, but there are lots of other options in the city. I wouldn't characterize this as a traditional corporate American hotel....it is...

This is a run-down hotel in a run-down neighborhood in one of the greatest cities in the world. My room looked across 6 feet to a brick wall. There were no amenities. No place to eat in the evening. There is a working class bar down the street.

I stayed here February 1 and 2 while receiving medical treatment at nearby UCSF Medical Center. Appalled that I spent over $700 for two nights at this very old, outdated place. The twin beds are tiny. The first night, our room was so cold we had to sleep in our coats! The happy hour and breakfast was decent, but probably...

Stayed one night. Staff were somewhat helpful. Alex was friendly - others not so. Very basic. I am a tall person - so I had difficulty with the shower. My room didn't have a coffee maker - since I was leaving rather early and missing breakfast - that would have been nice.

Stayed here one night for a business trip. Room was very old and small and very few amenities. No iron, no desk. The room decor look like something out of a horror/ghost movie. It also has the smell of a broken water pipe. Would not stay here again. This place needs a major upgrade

This hotel is in a good location if you want to be in Cole Valley or the Haight. The staff is friendly and helpful. There is a complimentary breakfast buffet that is more than ample. Relative to other hotels in SF it is not too expensive, The room I was in was clean but very tatty. It smelled bad. It...

Staying in Haight-Ashbury

Neighbourhood Profile
The area surrounding the intersection of Haight and Ashbury streets, “The Haight” still exudes vibes of the 1960s counterculture as a haven for vintage clothes, music, pop posters and body piercing shops. While the Summer of Love ended decades ago, Haight-Ashbury has turned into a melting pot of hippies, hipsters, and professionals. Walking through its streets can still feel like stepping back in time. A must-see neighbourhood for most music fans, it’s easy to see why these streets attracted the likes of the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin. You’ll likely be content in The Haight day or night, just be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.
