Thia is a cool old hotel. The staff is top shelf. The rooms are cozy and the beds are very comfortable. If you like old hotels with plenty of character, you'll like this hotel. It's also only a couple blocks from the powell street cable cars and union square. My wife and I would definitely stay again.

We started our tour at this hotel for one night and ended the tour with a 2 night stop here. Found as in tours, we had an extremely good room the first time and when returned put in a much smaller room. Found Sutter Street to be about a 20-30 minute walk from the Union Square area of SF. The...

We stayed at the Hotel Carlton last year as a result of a recommendation from a friend. For the price, it is fairly good value, but there was an issue with bed bugs and tatty rooms on the floor we initially stayed on, which we hope have been resolved. The hotel itself is quirky as other reviews have commented. The...

When hotel staff work to create a sense of community in their establishment, it becomes a genuine pleasure for the guests. At the Hotel Carlton in San Francisco, the staff were extremely helpful whenever we had questions, held a free wine tasting in the afternoons that were accompanied by music--some by college students, at least one by a talented staff...

Stayed here recently with my husband in a deluxe king room. The room and bath were both clean, and the room was a decent size. Some of the furniture was a bit worn (chipped paint, etc) but overall it was a nice-looking room. The window was quite dirty, but the view was nothing to look at anyway so it didn't...

This place is awesome! Great price, extremely friendly and helpful staff. Only a short 10 minute walk to union square. Free wine tastings at 5:30. Very nice sized rooms. Don't pay attention to the other whiners who don't like it.

We enjoyed our experience at this hotel- the staff was extremely friendly, joking at check-in and came to answer any problems. We wanted to refrigerate something and they brought a fridge to our room. The wine reception at 5:30 was great in meeting other guests. The furniture was a bit dated, but bed and bath clean and comfortable. My only...

Let's keep this simple. 1. There is no temperature control in the room. Too cold? they bring you a space heater. Too Warm? turn on the fan or open a window. 2. The tub has the dirt of many uses and no good cleaning. Leaving me to wonder what else hasn't been cleaned properly. 3. Minimal furnishings and table space....

Carlton Hotel is reasonably priced, older, yet clean and centrally located. The staff are nice and the food in the small restaurant is tasty. It's a less expensive way to visit SF.

The hotel is in a decent location, though it is kind of close to the Tenderloin. The rooms were a bit on the small side and had no A/C. I'm sure that's normally not a big problem in San Francisco but I was actually there when it was unseasonably warm so it was slightly annoying. The rooms look a bit...
