My husband and I stayed here a couple of nights and we really loved the casual friendly vibe of the staff and other patrons. The wine reception was super fun and we met a few other travelers there. We had dinner one night at the hotel restaurant Saha. It was delicious; especially the Knaffe desert, but a bit expensive. The... More

We booked this hotel through AAA and got a good rate (average $135 a night before taxes). The location is safe (we only had one bum accost us the entire time we were there) though a bit far from most major sites (20-25 minute walk to Chinatown; 40 to Fisherman's Wharf; 30-ish to the baseball stadium, etc.). Our room was... More

I cancelled my reservation via their website a week before my arrive (in accordance with their policy). I even went in and canceled a second time because I did not receive a confirmation email, but the website told me "this reservation is already canceled". The hotel has since charged me for the full cost of the entire scheduled stay (not... More

I was looking for a cheap place to stay for just one night in SF and I picked this hotel because it claimed to be a boutique hotel. I did not expect too much quality for its price, but I was very disappointed that it's not a boutique at all. The lobby decoration was nice. There were several photos from... More

Staying at the Hotel Carlton was a very polarizing experience, with it's pros and cons, this place lands somewhere down the middle. The good: - Jovial and very helpful staff - Animated, festive atmosphere, and San Franciscan charm - Convenient location though not particularly close to the metro - Cute room - Nice urban view of San Francisco (we were... The Hotel Carlton was our first point of call on a three stop trip to the USA. The hotel itself was very nice, the staff were friendly and the free wine tasting on an evening was a nice touch to relax after a tiring day. The hotel benefitted from free wi-fi which again was good and the room itself was... More

rooms are rather dark and full of dodgy old furniture - maybe I was missing the point and they were supposed to be full of character - wasn't quite sure! There was a musty smell thoughout the room - reminded me of my grandparents house. Otherwise, good service, clean and good location

We got this hotel by using Priceline Name Your Own Price and were pleased. However, if you are first time travelers to San Francisco I would not recommend as it is still a little ways away from Fisherman's Wharf, etc. We took the bus that dropped us off at Fisherman's Wharf and the Hotel Staff were very friendly in helping... My boyfriend and I arrived in San Francisco to a nightmare end to our journey. Having travelled down Highway 1 in a hire car, we were met with an awful return of our hire car, followed by a horrible, rude taxi driver taking us to the Carlton. On arrival to our hotel, we were greeted by the loveliest, most welcoming... More
