Recently had the pleasure of staying in this establishment, right from the concierge welcoming us and making us feel at home this hotel hit the spot. Booking in at reception instead of being a chore we must do was turned into a social event with desk staff entertaining guests with witty repartee, and passing information in an enjoyable way. My... We read good reviews so we decided to stay at the Carlton. The hotel is nice and friendly enough, but our room in the 2nd floor facing the street was horribly noisy. So much for a weekend of relaxation! There was constant horn honking, buses going up the hill, not to forget the garbage trucks, and, on Fri and Sat... More

Stayed there for two nights in November. Friendly and helpful staff. Ok rooms, clean and tidy. Safe neighborhood, close to union square. We missed the free wine offerings. That would have been another plus us staying at the hotel if we were at the hotel at that time of the day. Good value hotel in the heart of SF.

On arrival we found the reception staff very friendly and helpful. We were immediately put at our ease when checking in as the receptionist gave us a map, showed us parts of the city best avoided (which was only a few choice blocks) where to catch the bus to the wharf, and also invited us down to the lobby at... Stayed at the Hotel Carlton for 3 nights in early May 2010 and as you would expect, being in San Francisco, the hotel was old and charming. Sound insulation is obviously its major problem. The wind just howls through the place and we heard our neighbour snoring all night as if he was in the same room as us. I... More

On arrival, a very pleasing hotel. Smart foyer and a very pleasant check-in. The guys looking after you at the desk were good fun and very helpful on where to go and not to go. The rooms, disappoiningly, did not match the promise of the foyer. Advertised as a boutique hotel, this struggled to meet a description of shabby chic!... More

We stayed at the Hotel Carlton for 4 nights and we liked the hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the hotel was clean. We didn't find any issue with the noise and we were in a room at the front of the hotel and next to the elevator. It was a bit farther from most of the... More

I arrived on October 21st and was meeting with my brother who was at another hotel. Hotel Carlton was waaaaaaaay nicer and less expensive than his. The folks at the front desk were ever so helpful giving me a map and telling me what sights to see and where to get the bus/cable cars booking trips etc. Wine at 5:30... More
