Over the years, I swear I've stayed at nearly every San Francisco hotel on business. This makes the third or so time I've stayed here at the Hotel Whitcomb. It was one of those weeks when, evidently, there was a conference in town and I should have booked earlier. The Whitcomb is the kind of place that will have a...

We stayed here as part of a tour group. The location is on Market street right out side is the tram that takes you to fisherman a wharf, and a short walk to one of the cable car starts on Powell st. I liked the look of the rooms and the beds were very comfy. The staff at front desk...

Visited with my partner in June 2013, and we had a very pleasant experience at the Hotel Whitcomb. Booked our trip through Expedia, and got a pretty good deal on the place. LOCATION: The location is very convenient. It is right next to a BART/MUNI station, and on several trolley lines. We were a quick walk away from the Hayes...

Quite cheap compared to the other places around, so you get what you pay for. Cannot complain about cleanliness but it could be better. It is a very old building, and you are going to spend a LOT of time waiting for the elevators. The rooms are average size, but again, the infrastructure is pretty old. The area is not...

We stayed at The Hotel Whitcomb as part of a tour group. On the day of arrival we were told that road works that would be taking place, starting at 7pm at night and lasting the duaration of our stay. Our room was positioned road side, the roadworks was more road destroying than anything... so we had front row seats...

We stayed for one night, it was perfect for our purposes. A great deal, wonderful service and a clean room with every basic amenity. The real highlight was Larry at the bell desk who got us started exploring the city with some great recommendations. It is easy to see why he was named the best doorman in San Francisco! We...

The hotel is a grand older place with some quirky charm. it seems reasonably priced. It isn't the best location for fisherman's wharf or Chinatown but the public transit system works great and is easy to follow. The room was small (not a problem) and the bed weren't especially comfortable (kind of a problem). On our 11 night trip these...

Was a fantastic experience, visited for the pride weekend. I especially enjoy the help that the staff gives when it comes to going to the extra level with their customers. The hotel is located in the civic center area. The location is great; it's near Bill Graham (literally right next to it), and very close to the shopping areas. As...

I've stayed here two years in a row for gay pride weekend and it's always been fantastic. Helpful, friendly staff, clean rooms, convenient location...we would stay here again for sure. This year the staff was even extra helpful and hooked us up with complimentary grandstand tickets to watch the parade.

Staying in SoMa

Neighbourhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighbourhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighbourhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
