we stayed for 3 nights end of Aug 2011 after our trip to Napa. very popular and convenient hotel, the staff is very international and helpful. The lobby is overcrowded most of the time as the only wi-fi of the hotel is there. The rooms are clean and nice with comfy beds and pretty bathroom. We had 4 rooms booked,...

Recently attended the Oracle Open World Conference in San Francisco and like the complete procrastinator that I am, waited to book a room until the week before the event. When 45,000 people show-up to the city, hotel rooms become scarce...and those few that are mysteriously still available are ridiculously priced. It's that whole supply/demand thing. I joked with my colleagues...

After reading a bunch of reviews of this hotel, I set my expectations pretty low. However after staying 4 nights there, I didn't have any issues at all. The location is just on the edge of the sketchy Tenderloin district. I felt totally safe walking around, but I think at night girls would be a bit scared to walk around...

The bus stop is halfway down the block, both Geary and Van Ness lines connect you to wherever you need to be. Nice bed, clean room. The shower was a little small and I'd bring my own toiletries. But the staff was very nice, has a great lobby and if you need a snack, Mel's Diner is on the corner....

I stayed here for 6 days to attend a conference and it was great. The room was large, clean and the king size bed was really comfortable. There is free wired internet which is fantastic and free breakfast which consisted of hard boiled eggs, yougurt, fruit, toast and muffins. The only problem was that the tap in the sink in...

I normally stop over in San Fran on my way west. As my regular hotel is under renovation, I decided to try the Opal. Location is perfect for a short trip when you just require simple. Room is average.....clean and recently updated. Check in/out was a breeze. Price was under $100 a night. It's a short trip all around San...

The Opal was a welcome hotel for our first night in San Fran. After booking on-line at the last minute and reading mixed reviews I was pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness of the room and hotel surroundings. Mels diner adjacent to the hotel serves good food at a reasonable price and the bar opposite, Tony's Joynt had a friendly atmosphere,...

The Opal has a good location with access to convenient transit connections (bus lines on Van Ness to The Marina and Fisherman's Wharf, a souless tourist trap, and Geary to downtown or out to Richmond, as well as a cable car down California - pick up day or multiday transit pass at the Holiday Inn up the street at Pine)...

The hotel was nicer than I thought it would be--except the carpet in our room was filthy. I was glad we planned head and brought a small rug for my 5 month old granddaughter to scoot around on. The beds were comfortable and the linens were nice. We had to put the paper roll behind the toilet as none of...
