The San Francisco Marriott Marquis garners mixed feedback from guests. While the cleanliness and amenities of the rooms are commended, some visitors have concerns about the housekeeping and feel certain areas appear outdated. The hotel's location is a double-edged sword, offering convenient access to transportation but also exposing guests to noise and a less pristine environment. Patrons appreciate features like the expansive gym and the breathtaking bar views, yet they lament the quality of the coffee and the added costs. Opinions on value and service are varied, with many feeling that the hotel's prices outweigh the benefits offered and that the staff's performance is inconsistent.

We stayed here for 4 nights which was quite nice. The hotel is huge and we had booked a suite since my husband gets up really early and usually likes to go to the living room area to avoid waking me up. Unfortunately this hotels doesn’t really have real suites and we were told that all of their “suites” are more open concept. The room was quite large and very comfortable but it was a bit annoying that we couldn’t separate the living room from the bedroom. The location of the hotel was great with many good restaurants nearby and we epically liked using the small pedestrian alley behind the hotel. Instead of going out the main doors just go to the opposite side of the main entrance and you’ll find the exit for the pedestrian alley.

Overall we had a great stay and we would consider staying here again but we would probably pick a different hotel which has real suites. Another point worth noting is that this hotel does not have a pool which we missed during our stay.

This hotel is centrally located in a busy part of town. There are plenty of places to eat and you are not far from the water (walking distance). As with any large city, you must be careful when venturing out at night.

The foyer is very open and there is plenty of desk check in locations. The hotel is very "virus conscious" and they have taken appropriate measures to ensure safety.

The rooms are very spacious and clean. The doors are electronically controlled and the locks are secure. There isn't much of a city view, but if you ask the desk staff, they may be able to get you an upper floor.

I have never seen a "Sound Conditioner" in a hotel room before. I usually us my phone app, but the one here is nice and it worked! The air conditioner controls are easy to operate and they held the room temperature well. The TV has plenty of channels and the remote was wrapped in plastic for your safety. The counter space in the bathroom is large and the shower is nice and the water temperature controls are accurate (not too hot or cold after being initially set). The bed was very comfortable and seemed new.

There is a small eatery downstairs that will serve a variety of foods both hot and cold in addition to snacks. There are plenty of places to eat around the hotel.

Overall, I think you'll like this hotel and the location. The staff is very friendly and they are more than willing to recommending any place you may want to see. I'd highly recommend this hotel to all of my friends!

We spent 3 nights at the Marriott Marquis because of the location to the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. We found the room to be clean and comfortable. Check in and out easy. Victor was very helpful with airport transportation for a early morning flight. There is a BART station located near by and it was a easy way to come from the airport for around $10 a person. A cab ride back was around $40. Hotel has lots of dining options on property and off. It was a nice walk to the Embarcadero.

I stayed at this property last week, and used one of my Suite upgrades - based on the information and pictures on the website. There was NO mention of the fact that all restaurants were closed, no room service available, and no concierge level for guests with award status. After spending a huge part of 2019 staying in Marriotts, I "achieved" Titanium level; and have never been treated so badly by ANY hotel even with no "status." We requested some extra lotion and shampoos (since there were none) and never received anything. Seriously couldn't even get a plastic cup to drink from the tap in our "fancy room." When I called Marriott to request that my Suite upgrade be refunded; I was actually charged an EXTRA suite night - which has not been rectified to date! Absolutely appalled at the situation. Understand completely about Covid affect and did not ask for anything unreasonable. We stayed at a Hilton property days before and received excellent service - from a Hampton Inn, which was far superior to this hotel!

No complementary water and toiletries upon request. I can't believe Marriott is cutting down on this basic needs that even a simple boutique hotel provides. Though everything was provided after requesting it still surprising for me as frequent Marriott member.

When I came in to my room there was the most pleasant aroma with eclectic music playing on the hotel tablet. Exceptionally clean, no hair, no nothing!! Exactly what you would expect from a hotel of this stature. The cleaning staff, Jessica especially, attended to my every need and beyond. When I come back, my family and I will definitely stay here.

We appreciated the central location of this hotel because we were able to walk to various neighborhoods and to the Exploratorium. However, the Mission St. and Market St. entrances to the hotel were closed throughout our stay, so we could only walk into the hotel through the chaotic valet/parking area, which felt unsafe. When I arrived with my kids and extra bags (my husband had dropped us off and was returning our rental car) and tried to enter the elevator, the door closed on me as I was walking in and continued closing as I hurried to pull the last suitcase in. It shut on the suitcase handle, and the elevator went up without my suitcase. When I called the front desk to tell them about this they told me to come down to the lobby to look for my suitcase and didn't follow up at all about the malfunctioning electric eye on the elevator. I explained that I had just arrived with my kids and didn't want to leave them alone in the room. Eventually Security brought my suitcase up to our room, which was kind. However, there was no apology or acknowledgement from Marriott that it was scary. The windows of our room on the 32nd floor were dirty, and there was a balcony of sorts that was piled with what looked like old HVAC equipment. A staff person told us that the top floor lounge would be open to families Sunday evening 5 to 9, but it never opened. Finally, on the last day we had to depart before the coffee shop opened, so I made coffee in the room, and unfortunately the Marriott-supplied coffee cream was curdled/sour/bad.

The bottom line for an excellent hotel is a great bed and an excellent shower. At the Marriott Marquis, the bed and bedding and non-feather pillows practically put me to sleep with the rich comfort they offered. The room was exceptionally clean, and everything worked perfectly, from the TV to the wi-fi. This happens to be one of my favorite hotels in the world. Add to that the friendly, accessible, and responsive staff, and that's the whole picture

They checked us into a dirty room when the hotel occupancy was likely around 30%. We were in a hurry to get to dinner, so literally put our bags in the room and went out. On return, as we were retiring, I noticed the closet had dirty bathrobes, open beverages and the bed was made but the sheets had clearly been slept in. Rang the front desk and they moved us to a room next door. No assistance was sent up - the security guard simply brought us a new room key. No amenity provided whatsoever. At checkout, they refused to reduce the room rate and offered 5,000 BonVoy points to my account - which have yet to be awarded. Due to Covid-19 the hotel is lifeless and the only food and drink is what you can purchase from their Cafe which has limited hours. Front Desk gave no instruction to us for surrounding options. We sussed out our own. Would never stay here again nor recommend it. Zero customer service.

The room should be quiet. It's reasonably safe to walk around the hotel at night (not too late as it becomes quite deserted), but there are a lot of homeless in downtown SF, and as you get towards the Tenderloin, you may have problems
