It is very well located and the style is appealing. There was a very strange odor though and the room was very very claustrophobic... Couldn't even unpack properly. Is was clean and easily accessible.

This is not a typical chain hotel, nor does it have in-suite bathrooms, which is why it is an affordable and a one-of-a-kind experience in one of the more expensive cities in the world. It's very clean and in a terrific location with a flavor of vintage San Francisco. The staff was very attentive, and the hall toilets and showers... More

Cute and reasonably priced hotels in a great location that's easily accessible/walkable to the Fishermans Wharf/Pier 39 area. It's also about a 10 minute walk to Lombard street and Coit Tower. It must be noted that a lot of the rooms are small (and it explains why in the brochure of information that you get in your room -'it's basically... More

Great place to stay - clean, quiet, conveniently located between the two cable car lines that get you downtown, walking distance to Wharf. Shared toilets and bathrooms are ok as there is many of them. Spent there a week and had to wait once for a shower. They have massage chair on every floor and i spend time there planning... More

Probably not for everyone given the shared bathroom situation, but it was perfect for my husband and my romantic weekend away! Very central to a lot of the attractions, we walked almost everywhere. And the Italian Restaurant at the bottom of the hotel was DELICIOUS!

Thank you very much for writing your review of the San Remo Hotel. The hotel was built at the beginning of last Century, and we have maintained it’s authenticity by decorating with furnishings and artwork throughout that best represents the flavor of a Historic San Francisco hotel. We stayed here for 4 nights in March 2016. We enjoyed the old world charm of this place and the location was great--an easy walk to Fisherman's Wharf and a streetcar stop at the end of the block. I was happy with the price we paid--other nearby hotels were twice as much. When we travel to explore a city, we... More

. . . But I didn't realize they still had the original beds lol No joke-the mattress was horrible. Worst bed I've ever slept on in my life. We could see the big dip in the middle the moment we walked into the room. Soft and mushy, but crackles when you try to turn over. We had reserved a room... More

Did not realize that the rooms were not furnished with a bathroom/shower. But it was for one night and since our company was from Germany, figured they would not mind. Rooms were outdated, but the staff was very friendly and our company really did not complain. The Italian restaurant next door was superb! They said it was the best Italian... More

Thank you for your review/ Your stay at the San Remo Hotel was about a year ago. Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We are a family-owned historic boutique pension-style hotel located in North Beach, one of San Francisco's oldest and most popular tourist destinations, and only a few blocks from Fisherman's Wharf. Built in 1906, our hotel maintains an atmosphere of Old-World charm and ambiance with specially selected antique furnishings - no two rooms are alike. The walls of the hotel are filled with a collection of memorabilia and history. Our style is simplicity and sanctuary - there are no room telephones, no televisions, and on the order of European pensions, shared baths which are meticulously cleaned daily, and are private when in use, but for all guests to use. Our rooms are cozy and small, our prices are proportional. Our staff is available while our Front Desk is open to help you find anything your heart desires. A truly unique, non-standardized hotel experience. ... more   less
