Assateague is a barrier island, connected by the Verrazano bridge to Berlin, Maryland. It has three campgrounds. Bay side and beach side campgrounds are part of the Assateague Island National Seashore, operated by the National Park Service which we visited four years ago and drove through during this visit. None of the sites have hookups nor are there flush toilets...

Spent two nights camping here with my husband and son in mid-October.....we LOVED it! We camped in the I loop right next to a bathhouse and across from the dune crossover. We loved listening to the waves crash from our site. The new bathhouses are nice.... The shower wasn't the hottest but it was workable. There ponies wandered right through...

For this to be enjoyed, I wouldn't camp (and I like to camp!) The fact that you cannot leave any food out, ever, is more of a pain than you might think. Not talking just at night -- the horses can show up at any moment (they are lovely, and I get that this is THEIR space first), but when...

If you are up for "dry camping"; no water, electric, sewer, which I was a bit hesitant about even in an RV than you will LOVE this campground! The campsites are large, beautifully situated and very well kept up. We stayed on the Bay side where you can just walk in your canoe/kayaks. It's a short bicycle/car ride to the...

Our campsite gad no water or electric, which was exactly what we wanted. This was our first tent camping experience and definitely not our last. The bathhouses were spotless, the beach was clean. We saw lots of horses! Many visited our sites daily. We were very careful at keeping all food locked in the car. Eating in the tents was...

We visited with our scout troop and really enjoyed the environment. The campsite was a bit farther from the beach than I would have liked (bayside of big loop), but the restrooms were very clean, great outdoor kitchen sinks, and very clean campsites with fire pits and asphalt driveways (great for drying-out tents in morning). We really enjoyed ghost crabbing...

This place rocks for camping. We had an oceanfront campsite. Heating the waves at night was awesome. Though a bit windy, we enjoyed the site so close to the beach. Ponies are always beautiful to see. Camp host was friendly and available. Keep the loop horse-clean and was fun to chat with about his experiences. We stayed for OC Bike...

I have visited Assateague before and always camped in the National Park, this is the first time in the state park. Assateague has a great beach, awesome surf (sometimes swimming is not safe) , wild horses, clamming and crabbing and peace and quiet ( except for campers generators). The state park campsites are spacious with a paved drive ,fire pit...

Camped here last fall at one of the pet friendly lots. One of our favorite places to camp at. It was very easy to find and set up on the campground. We were able to get firewood from a local provider. The ponies are very friendly, even with the dogs. The weekend we were there it was windy. Very close...

I walked in without a reservation after 5pm and was able to get a site. I loved that all the sites are so close to the ocean. The access to the sites is along one way paved roads. The beach is on the other side of the dunes and access is over wooden walks. I did not love that RV's...
