In addition to the rooms here being very clean and nicely decorated, the room rates are great. You do need to make your reservations before 9 pm though. The person that checked us in was very friendly and helpful. The Inn is not an old building, but it is designed as an old building. Because it is newer construction, the...

Checked out of a $200.00 room in Durango, CO that was filthy and drove one hour towards Albuquerque Airport for flight the next day. Found this Inn online and am so grateful! Everything in the Inn is immaculately clean. It has a very Victorian theme with many antiques. Furniture, bedding, closets, etc in rooms are dated but again very clean....

What a charming motel -- really more like a B&B. The rooms were beautifully decorated in antiques and created an ambiance that truly made us feel like we had just "Stepped Back" in time. Very quiet building -- felt like we were the only ones there. Felt very comfortable knowing that all the doors locked at 9 p.m. and entrance...

Beautiful inside and out! Decor seems to be Victorian Style with a touch of Cowboy. Maybe because we were in the "Bunker" Room. Each room has been given a name along with the room number. All rooms have indoor entrances only. You can park outside your room but have to walk around the building to the front or side door....

This is a very nice, Victorian style, non-smoking, no-pets, and extremely clean hotel. Only a limited number of rooms have (slow) internet, so make sure to ask. The rooms are very nicely decorated with lace curtains and chenille bedspreads, and antique-style furniture. The exterior of the building is beautiful as well with flowers and antiques decorations. The location is convenient,...

Nice! More like a B&B than a hotel. Tastefully adorned with antiques that give a sense of local history along with a very cheerful and helpful front desk staff. Large rooms and a very nice continental breakfast. If you want a downstairs room, book in advance.

So charming, unique, feeling like a home. Forget the generic hotels, this has everything you want from a hotel, plus the experience of staying in a truly, classy room, decorated with antique furnitures from the 1800's, a gorgeous tea room with 2 pianos and yummy giant cinnamon buns for breakfast. All for a great price!

A very nice and spotlessly clean hotel. The staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is I thought the breakfast (which consists of a cinnamon roll) was a little sparse. The rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable. I'll stay here again the next time I come through here.

Looks like a very nice restored Inn, but in reality, was built and furnished with antiques to resemble something much older. Very clean room and friendly staff. The entrance door is not automatic. No refrigerator in room.

There aren't too many choices in Aztec, so we picked this hotel based on TA reviews. Very clean and friendly. Nice quiet hotel. Can't complain about a thing. I recommend giving them a try! Our room was at the back of the hotel, so parking was very convenient.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Step Back Inn is a Victorian decor hotel with each room named after an 1800's pioneer in the Animas River Valley. We are within walking distance to the World Heritage site..Aztec Ruins and the wonderful Aztec Museum on Main Street. There are seven eateries within walking distance as well as several trails and parks. We have a very safe and friendly community and there are lots of things to see and do while you are in our area. As you start your day we served homemade cinnamon rolls and fresh juice, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. No rubber eggs here. Our rooms are very quiet and clean and we know you will like your stay with us. Thanks, T. Blancett-owner. ... more   less
