We decided relatively last minute to head up to Asheville for a quick overnight to meet some local friends for dinner.

The price was right ($101 plus taxes - a AAA rate) and the location excellent, right off the 240 and adamant to downtown, where we met our friends for dinner, so I booked it.

Parking was free as well, a great benefit at any downtown hotel. The check in experience was pleasant enough and the room at first glance fine.

As Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite members we had a choice of bonus points or complimentary breakfast for 2 so we chose the breakfast as we’d read it was a nice buffet.

My spouse wasn’t feeling great this morning so he chose to stay in the room and I was surprised that they wouldn’t let me take anything to go (as an aside, the local Rotary club was also meeting in half the restaurant and I frankly didn’t want to sit there with the sound from their meeting spilling over), so I declined and took my voucher to the front desk and asked to have points instead. Hopefully they post!

The ventilation duct in the bathroom needs cleaning and parts of the wallpaper are bubbling and peeling but overall the place is fine and worked well for our purposes.

Would we stay here again? Probably not. There are other nicer Marriott properties just up the hill, a Renaissance, a relatively new AC, and an Aloft, so I think we’ll check one of them out next time.

Needless to say, Covid has changed the hotel experience in both fundamental and subtle ways. In the case of this hotel, there was no daily housekeeping service (we stayed three nights), there was no buffet breakfast, there was no ice in the ice machines, and masks were required in all public spaces. Nevertheless, a wonderful tasty breakfast could be ordered from a dining room menu, and the bartenders were happy to provide ice to take back to our room.

All that being said, when we first arrived our room smelled extremely musty: as if it hadn't been cleaned for quite a while. I took that to be a sign that the hotel hadn't had full occupancy in a long time and that many of their rooms had only recently been opened again. A quick call to the front desk suggesting that while we were out they could please get someone to spray some air freshener took care of the problem.

A more difficult issue involved a water leak that left us with no water for a short time and with no HOT water at all during one morning. The staff apologized and offered that the hotel's age led from time to time to such troubles. I felt sorry for their having to deal with mechanical issues on top of coping with all of the corona virus protocols and practices. In the end, the worst result was one morning of cold showers.

We chose this hotel because it's within walking distance of an old friend's house, where we spent much of our time while in Asheville. It's also convenient to the city's attractive downtown. FACT IS: This was my first overnight experience in twenty-one months (since before the Covid lockdown), and I was happy to overlook some hotel reboot bumps in order to enjoy being able to travel again.

I searched almost all the nearby hotels for the cost and location. This one was the best. However, lower cost means less fancy. The hotel was in the right location for walking the city and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The hotel itself is an older property and undergoing some heavy construction at times. That didn't bother us. They put out warnings and you can't blame them for wanting to upgrade. The room was typical. There had been some light renovation at some time and they did the bathroom, although I think they could have done a much better job. The real complaint I had about the room was the arm chair in the corner. It had a hug rip on the top of one arm. Very shabby. Just throw it out. No one needs it anyway! And, my other "beef" was that they are still not cleaning the rooms or even entering them. We had to put our garbage out and go down to the front desk for fresh supplies, including towels. I wish I had received some sort of credit for keeping my room cleaned and supplied! We paid for it! Plus, what is the real difference...the cleaning person comes in after we checked out to get it ready for the next guest. Why exactly can't they come in the room when we are not there??? It's silly, but I guess this is the new norm. Pay the say, get less.

Stopped in Asheville for a few days while on our way to Florida. Found this great hotel right in town that was a wonderful experience for the money. Clean and very comfortable bed/rooms . We bought the breakfast buffet coupon ($10 for 2 people) that entitled us to a $14.99 buffet that was simply fabulous! Parking was free and staff very attentive. Something you don’t find much of these days. Highly recommend this hotel.

I've stayed twice in the past year and both times they put us in the basement next to the elevator, even when I specifically asked not to be in a room on that end of the building. It's just damp enough to make the room feel cold all the time, but not enough to make it smell moldy. The elevator runs all night long, and the motor is really loud in the two rooms we stayed in. Because the sound comes through the walls and floor, earplugs don't really allow you to block it out. So, it was difficult to sleep.
I will say that this is one of the few hotels with an open parking lot in downtown Asheville, so you can park a large service vehicle (or three), in the lot without needing to worry about your ladder rack.
However, unless someone else is paying, I'm not willingly staying in this hotel when there are others around the area.
Still, the sheets were clean and the room was in good condition. However, the staff ignored our request for a different room when the hotel was mostly empty, and the rooms in the lower level all feel cold.

We booked an extremely reasonable rate for a 10-night stay at the Four Points Sheraton over the Christmas holidays, and were very pleased with the room and service. I agree with other reviewers that the hotel is in need of updating, but our room was immaculate and the beds were fine. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. As Marriott loyalty members we "spun the wheel" when we checked in and won tickets to the breakfast buffet for our entire stay, which was a great deal; a special "shout-out" goes to Flor and Sindy in the restaurant, whom we saw almost every day and who provided excellent service.

We've stayed at the Four Points Sheraton a number of times over the years when visiting Asheville, and the location is great, just a short walk to downtown restaurants and other attractions. And parking is included. Would definitely stay here again.

Had a great stay here - the staff was so warm, inviting, communicative, and helpful. Our checkin was seamless, and the host was able to get us into a relatively quiet room with us and our dogs. Everything about our stay was comfortable - the room was cool, everything worked well, parking was a breeze, etc.
The breakfast staff in the restaurant was equally warm and accommodating. Even upon checking out, the houskeeper was very helpful as we asked for a late checkout. It was a late request so we weren't sure what could be done, but not only was the reception staff helpful, but the housekeeper we ran into was very helpful as well.
We really could not have had a better stay here thanks to the staff at the hotel and will certainly stay here again!

The reviews exaggerating how awesome this place is, are wrong. For Marriott hotels it's on the l"ow economy end", outdated, disagree with review saying their pillows were fabulous and there's complimentary breakfast (unless your breakfast consist of coffee or tea only, than yes, water, coffee and tea are free). Room was fairly clean, only found hair on the lamp base on my nightstand and half empty bottle of water next to the bed. Would stay in different hotel but other places were booked. I am not trying to discourage anyone but if you have high expectations, you might be disappointed. Staff is nice.

This hotel may be dated, however it provides the very best service for a fraction of its overpriced competitors. Jamie at the front desk is professional, friendly, and greeted me warmly upon each interaction. The dog floor was silent, not one bark or commotion. Housekeeping was friendly and accommodating. The room was spotless, well equipped, large, and comfortable. I was thrilled with my stay and will return. Sure, the city has many fancier options but for the budget friendly traveler this is THE BEST experience in town.

Thank you for all of your feedback. We do try to answer each contributor based upon their responses. For all of the reviews that have suggested we are in need of an update, we certainly hear you and agree. Unfortunately, we have to wait for the brand to tell us when the update will happen. With the acquisition of Starwood by Marriott, we are anticipating new standards. We do hear you loud and clear and want to move forward with this but our hands are tied until we receive the correct information. Thank you for your patience. I do hope this clarifies our responses.
