What an amazing little gem near downtown Ashville! From the moment I made the reservation the communication was impeccable. I got a text from Kathy Grisham, the onsite host, within a few hours welcoming me. Kathy Grisham was the most amazing host we have ever experienced at a B&B! During my reservation, I mentioned that the trip was for our wedding anniversary so she even texted me and asked what we wanted for breakfast to eat and to drink (mimosas or bloody marys). Arrival was smooth with detailed instructions as we were arriving after hours. The Inn was clean and they had so many nice touches such as freshly baked cookies, small snacks and sodas in a small room off the kitchen. We had a beautiful, clean room with plenty of towels and fresh linens. We even had fresh roses in our room since it was a special occasion! They provided robes, shampoo, soap and even a noise machine (although we did not experience any street noise at all). The location is not far from downtown but in a quiet historical neighborhood called Montford. I would definitely stay again and will recommend it to others. It was a wonderful place to stay and they went above and beyond. All of the special touches did not disappoint!

Maria, we are so glad that you and Jim had a wonderful anniversary! You were in good hands with Kathy ;) Sorry we missed meeting y'all but we are on a little getaway to record a road trip podcast. Thank you so much for the review! We will share with Kathy. I'm sure it will make her smile as it did for us. Steve and I hope to meet you both another time!

Lovely inn in a beautiful neighborhood. Innkeepers Karen and Steve were warmly accommodating to my request to eat breakfast outside on the porch instead of indoors (I remain Covid cautious) and my sister's special dietary needs. And they kindly had our room ready early for my husband and me because our plane arrived several hours before check in. Karen also had helpful advice on things to see in and around Asheville.

Our room was spacious, pretty, quiet, and relaxing. My sister had an adjoining smaller room and it was fun in the evenings to keep the door open before we went to sleep.

Sitting on the inn porch in the evenings was delightful.

We chose to stay in Montford instead of right downtown at the suggestion of a local friend. While you can’t walk outside and immediately have a dozen restaurants around within a few blocks, there are a couple of good restaurants within a few minutes walk and downtown starts 10 or 15 minutes walk away. In return, you get a quieter leafy neighborhood with lovely architecture that's nice for a morning stroll. Plus we got restaurant delivery a couple of times and ate on the inn porch!

Note that rooms are on the 2nd or 3rd floor, and there are stairs up to the main entrance. None of us are young and we were fine, but FYI I didn’t see any elevators or chair lifts, so I believe you do need to be OK going up and down stairs. Steve was happy to help with luggage, though.

Highly recommend The Lion and the Rose.

Thanks for all the kind words, Sharon! We really appreciate you taking the time to post this wonderful review :) It was a pleasure having you all here to celebrate Nancy's birthday. We were happy to accommodate your requests. Glad the weather was beautiful while you here so you could enjoy the porch. And glad you got to see our local turkey providing entertainment while you had dinner at Nine Mile. He is still wandering around the neighborhood. Lol. Wishing you all the best and hopefully we will see you all again another time!

My wife and I had been scouting venues for our wedding day to be held in Asheville, NC. Our preference was to find a nostalgic, cozy B&B with deep roots in Asheville's history, and situated on a property that might have a garden setting for the wedding ceremony itself. A friend recommended The Lion and the Rose based upon their own past stay.

We made a visit to the B&B in late March of this year. We met the owners, Steve & Karen Wilson, and toured the B&B, its grounds and gardens. It was very obvious that Steve & Karen were very passionate about maintaining the historic aspect of the B&B and providing the best in comfort and service to all of their guests. Our wedding party was to be small, six people total, requiring three rooms and two nights stay. As we concluded our discussion, Karen & Steve offered to wrap our rooms into an elopement package to include brides bouquet, wedding cake, ceremonial officiant and space on the main floor for reception afterward. They made us feel so comfortable that we booked the wedding with them on that first visit.

We should also point out that The Lion and the Rose is situated in close proximity to a number of fine dining establishments where you can enjoy a great evening meal and know you're only a few minutes away from the B&B.

It is now May 3rd, the wedding ceremony was held yesterday, and the entire affair was handled perfectly from start to finish. The rooms were very comfortable, breakfast in the mornings was a delight where all B&B guests could sit around a large dining room table, enjoy good conversation and eat a very flavorful breakfast cooked by the owner, Karen.

Because Steve & Karen are so attentive to their guests, we highly recommend The Lion and the Rose B&B as the best location to book your stay in Asheville. We will be returning there ourselves, we know you won't be disappointed.

We had a fantastic experience at The Lion and The Rose. We stayed two nights in the Craigs-Tom suite. The suite was spacious and comfortable, and we particularly enjoyed eating the delicious breakfasts each morning on the small private balcony. The king bed was comfortable, with soft sheets that smelled fantastic! Steve and Karen are very friendly and helpful hosts, cheerfully providing everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We would love to return if we have the opportunity to visit Asheville again.

From the moment we arrived Karen and Steven went out of their way to be hospitable! We sampled Steve’s beer, talked about the area and great breweries and restaurants, they even had delicious brownies waiting for us in our room.

The room was beautiful, lovely decor and extremely clean. We were tucked into a nice quiet area of the house and felt as if we were the only ones there until the morning when we had the opportunity to meet other guests at breakfast. Breakfast was outstanding!

We are absolutely going to stay here whenever we are in the area!

This is an excellent property. Steve and Karen are very friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent and the atmosphere is very casual and comfortable. The property is located close to the downtown area. We called an uber due to the fact that we were going to some of the local breweries and it was very easy and cheap to get from the property to the downtown area. I highly recommend The Lion and The Rose.

My husband and I chose The Lion and the Rose B&B to celebrate our anniversary in Asheville, NC. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this B&B to others. Karen and Steve are very gracious hosts and eager to make your stay pleasant. They delivered coffee to our room each morning which was very much appreciated and they served a delicious breakfast each morning also. They offered recommendations for restaurants and hiking which was very helpful. We stayed in the Craig Tom's Room on the 3rd floor. It is a large room and has a separate bedroom with a king bed and a sitting area with two very comfortable chairs and a TV. This was the perfect room for us. We would definitely stay here again!

We had a great weekend stay with another couple. The Inn Keepers, Steve and Karen, were extremely hospitable. They were very attentive to any needs or wants we may have. Additionally, there were extra touches throughout our stay - including homemade chocolate chip cookies and brownies that were brought to our rooms in the afternoons. A fresh pot of coffee was placed outside our door each morning by 7:30. Breakfasts were AMAZING, and the portions were plentiful. The historic area of Montfort was a beautiful treat. While we’ve visited Asheville numerous times, we’d never stayed in this area. We will be back. Side note - the fur babies that helped welcome us were PRECIOUS - Ozzie and Oreo. Thank you Steve and Karen for a great weekend getaway!

Guest room was clean, comfortable, quiet and well-appointed including plenty of towels! Beverages and snacks were available 24/7 including home baked brownies and cupcakes. Located in the historic district with restaurants and charming neighborhoods within walking distance (The Biltmore was just a short drive away). Hosts were friendly and suggested places to eat and visit. We were able to relax and enjoy the company of hosts and other guests. Our only regret was that we could not stay longer!

My fiancee and I checked into The Lion and The Rose for a one-night stay to celebrate our 5th anniversary. I expected some luxury, having booked the top-floor suite (the Craigs Tom, for those looking at staying here), but we were both blown away by what this B&B had to offer. The view from our balcony was lovely, our bed was soft and the breakfast delivered to our door the next morning was delicious. Not only that, this B&B's great location meant we could we could walk around the lovely Montford neighborhood while also being within driving distance of Asheville's best restaurants and attractions.

I believe that was the nicest room in the house. I didnt get to see it. But ours was very nice on the second floor-think we just had a shower though, but the 3rd floor I heard was very nice. This was my favorite bed and breakfast I have ever gone to.

Is there room for 3 adults and 2 children to stay together?
Answer from TheLionAndTheRose

Booking for five people would require more than one room reservation although we do have two rooms (the Craig-Toms Suite and the Marion Hall room) that have a queen bed as well as a day bed, perfect for three adults. Please keep in mind we are unable to accommodate children under the age of 12 years old. If you have any questions please give us a call at 828.255.7673!

Hi, I am curious if the bathrooms are walk in shower or tub/shower? Thank you.
Answer from TheLionAndTheRose

Thank you for your question! Like many of our past guests have stated we have two different shower options: The Fannie Rice and Margaret Grace rooms have a tub/shower while the Marion Hall and Holger Nielsen rooms have walk in showers. The Craig Toms Suite has a soaking tub as well as walk in shower.
