I stayed for two nights. Very clean and tidy. I'm generally satisfied with this hostel. But it's really nosiy and the elevator..is moving..not only up and down but right to left or left to right..i became so afraid everytime i went to my room on 7th floor:(

Stayed for one night for a concert. The accommodations are what you would expect from a hostel. Just a place to sleep. But the hostel itself was cleanly enough and the help was very nice. Bathrooms clean. Bed not super comfortable but doable.

Came in not expecting a lot. But was surprised by the cleanliness of the room and the rest of the floor. Staff was nice and helpful (provided places to eat and buy liquor). Its no 5 star hotel but for the price its nice.

We booked for two days before leaving on a cruise from Boston. We knew going in it was a hostel with semi-private rooms and bath down the hall. No problem, my wife camps a lot and I've roughed it before, so wasn't expecting a chain motel. The location was very good - relatively convenient to transportation, and within walking (although...

Very basic hostel our first room was a double it was very small but clean. Located on the front of the hostel it was very noisy and a really sun trap. Our friend arrived and we moved to a triple room this was much more spacious very clean at the back of the hostel it was really quiet. We had...

Small room, but it was clean. Shared bathroom, also clean. It is really close to the touristic places and you can go there by foot. There is a seven eleven in front of the hostel, which is very convenient.

Firstly, the location for this hostel is very good however, travelling with a large party of 10 we found it very difficult to check- in smoothly. The receptionists were very direct and lacked basic customer service skills, they didn't really seem to want to help with our confusion about pre- authorisation/ deposit for the room. On a positive note, this...

Where to begin... The fact I am lying in my bed on the last of three nights and the app couldn't highlight it as my nearest hotel tells you everything to know about this place. Yes it's a hostel but at these prices you would think given the site pictures you would think maybe it's not that bad. Two single...

We picked this hostel for its central location, which was extremely useful. You can walk to many attractions and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. The neighbourhood is very pleasant. The rooms are basic, but everything is kept clean and we were pleased overall. It's an excellent way to visit Boston on a budget.

Room was like a prison cell... just enough room for 2 spring beds, beds were uncomfortable and small, plain, hot with no AC. V expensive for what it was. Would never stay again. Moderately good location.

Staying in South End

Neighbourhood Profile
South End
Stroll down the beautiful brownstone lined streets while capturing views of Boston’s tallest buildings from a distance. Some of Boston’s best restaurants are scattered around this neighborhood. There are many gems to be found, from jazz clubs to classy bars and restaurants. It is also home to art galleries, interesting boutiques, artsy stores and SOWA open market during the summer months. The South End is a true find in the city, with a more residential feeling than Back Bay.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Located in Boston's historic South End within easy walking distance of Copley Square, Back Bay and downtown Boston, 40 Berkeley offers an unbeatable value for budget-minded travelers. Our 168 private guest rooms are an appealing alternative to Boston's high-priced hotel rooms. All have either a shared or private bathroom and many have spectacular views of Boston's skyline. The hotel's elegant main lobby and public spaces recall the building's storied history as the country's first YWCA. In addition to its dramatic interiors, the hotel has a lovely private patio garden where guests gather in the warmer months for socializing and impromptu events. ... more   less
