John Jefferies House is superbly located in central Boston with easy access to the subway (less than 100 yrds) and with easy walking distance of the centre of Boston. You have a very pleasent walk up Charles Street to Beacon Hill park and the beginning of the Heritage trail. Loads of very nice and not too expensive restaurants close by to...

In October 2011 we stayed twice at the John Jeffries House. Both times for two nights. It was a good alternative to all the overexpensive hotels in Boston. The location right in Beacon Hill is perfect. A subway station is just a few footsteps away. Logan International can be easily reached by public transportation. (A cab from the airport costs...

Although this is classified as a bed and breakfast it is actully a smaller scale hotel that offers a continental breakfast in the lobby floor common area. If you are looking for a romantic atmosphere with all of the comforts of home I'd say look elswhere. But if you want a clean, affordably priced room sans the bells and whistles...

I stayed here about 8 days ago as part of a women's weekend, and I am still recovering. I tried to sleep on the pull-out sofa in my room, and wound up falling through the bed frame. I hurt my shoulder pretty badly. No broken bones, but I was pretty banged up. When I called the desk to report this...

It is something between a hotel and a guesthouse. The rooms are good size, at least they are not small; the staff is fine, not too friendly but not grumpy either. The location of the hotel is great, you can walk anywhere really. The biggest problem is the atmosphere. I actually felt like I was staying at the hotel where...

Three old high school friends from Western Canada went to Boston for a week long holiday/reunion, and found the John Jeffries House on the web. The location was unbelievable; we walked to so many historic Boston locations, soaking up the amazing ambiance of this safe, clean and friendly city. JJ House is located at the foot of historic Charles street,...

I would have to say that the main asset this place has is it's location. Right by Charles St/MGH on the red line just over the road. It is a pleasant walk up Charles (or is it Cambridge?) to the Common indicating how close you are to the hub of things. Despite its proximity to some main throroughfares there was...

For three ladies from Kansas and their first time in Boston, John Jeffries House was one of the highlights of our trip. The staff was extremely accommodating in answering our many questions about how to navigate around Boston to see all the historic places. The room was very clean and had all the amenities but still maintain a historical atmosphere....

After lugging our bags up the entry stairs, we checked in to find that we were in a basement room.Since we were there for 4 nights, the following morning, I asked to be moved and we were but of course we had to pack up before leaving for the day. Two days in that room and we packed up again...

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Boston and, for us, John Jeffries House was ideal accommodation. Its location, close to the Charles River, Beacon Hill and the Red Line "T" station, couldn't have been better. Our compact one-bedroom apartment was well furnished and the living room had a great view. The bathroom was large and well equipped. The cooking facilities...

Staying in Beacon Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Beacon Hill
Visit this historic and ritzy Boston neighborhood to soak up its classic New England charm as you stroll down cobblestoned, gas-lamp lined streets. Bring your walking shoes, camera, and select a nice day to wander through the hilly neighborhood and check out its exclusive addresses. Louisburg Square, Mt. Vernon street, Chestnut street and the extremely narrow and widely photographed Acorn street make a nice walking path. Make sure to meander down Charles street to poke into boutiques and antique shops, cafes, and restaurants on this quaint shopping street. Don’t forget to catch a glimpse up close of the State House with its beautiful and iconic dome.
