Nestled in the heart of downtown Boston, The Bostonian Hotel is celebrated for its prime location, offering guests convenient access to the city's attractions. Travelers consistently commend the hotel for its cleanliness and the comfort of the beds. However, guests have called out the property for outdated decor and noise disturbances.
While the staff's friendliness is often praised, the hotel's service can be hit-or-miss. Reviewers warn of high costs and additional fees, suggesting that the hotel may not offer the best value for its price point.

The Bostonian is in a great location for walking to area sights or accessing the subway. The standard room was clean, large and generally in good condition. Elevators were always available and there was no street noise that permeated the room. There was no refrigerator in a standard room and daily cleaning service was not available unless requested. The restaurant was not open all week with no explanation as to why...perhaps COVID concerns? The check-in staff was friendly, the check-out staff less so. The front entrance area is circular and people tend to smoke in the area by the signs that say No Smoking. There are rocking chairs in the area but these seemed to be used for the smoking guests. It makes for an unpleasant entrance to the hotel.
The worst part of the hotel was the $25 daily facility, basically adding another $25 to the room rate. The fee is not optional but supposedly provides for wifi and other amenities. For this reason, I would NOT stay at the Bostonian again because of this deceptive fee added to one's room rate. When questioned about what the room rate includes, I was told...the room.

Great location especially for first time visitors of Boston, like us. Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market are right across the hotel. Lots of eating places nearby. The hotel is very central.
As for the hotel itself, the room is very spacious and clean. Reception was also very kind and welcoming. They offer unlimited free bottled water and hot chocolate. The lobby is small and cozy. They have free board games. The view from the room/balcony is nice. The hotel is right in front of a busy area so if you get easily bothered by street noise (you can hear music from street musicians playing by the marketplace), you may want to ask for a room that's not close to the street. The noise didn't bother us.
There were only 2 things that I did not like: First, the only parking option is to valet park, which is $51 USD per night. Second, toilet is too shallow - the water splashes whenever you flush.
All in all, the hotel is very good.

789akmat, thank you very much for the great review! It was our pleasure to have the opportunity to host you for your Boston visit! In regards to parking, the city offers several self parking options in our area, however, depending on your vehicle needs, valet parking can be the more convenient option. We appreciate your feedback and we look forward to your next trip! See you soon!

The location is the best ever. You are walking distance to everything downtown. We walked to the harbourfront, TD Garden and Boston Common all within a 20-25 minute walk (you have to make sure to wear proper walking shoes due to all of the brick / cobblestone sidewalks). If you are driving in you have to make sure you are approaching from the right angle - especially in traffic! Valets were super fast to get your car when you asked for it. I wasn't aware of the $25 convenience fee prior so the daily fee added up a bit when we were also paying for valet. Bathrooms are clean and updated. Beds comfortable. The hallway decor seemed a little dated, but we weren't hanging out there. If you want a quick breakfast on the run, you can get a breakfast sandwich / wrap at the Dunkin Donuts 2 doors down. Would be curious to know more history of the building due to an interesting event...

Value:
I canceled by reservation at the Marriot in the hopes that I'd save money as the Bostonian was advertised at a much lower price per night. Unfortunately, there were hidden fees and parking through a separate entity that meant it ended up costing more. Around $450 for two nights (excluding parking). There is a "resort" fee, but it's nothing near a resort.
Location:
The location is great and in walking distance to many cool places, including Quincy Market, the harbor, aquarium and a pleasant surprise was a pop-up farmers market on Friday and Saturday.
Room / Cleanliness:
Because we are in the middle of a global pandemic, I brought lysol, my own sheets and bath towels. Good thing I did! The whole place felt dated and unclean. The toilet seat was literally peeling!! There was hair the bathroom before we used it, stains on the pillow cases. Just felt unclean, particularly during the time we are living in. I did not see anyone actively sanitizing or cleaning the lobby or any other general areas during our stay. Also, they did not offer contactless check-in. I was required to fill out and sign forms at the front desk...as well as present my ID.
Our room had a balcony which is literally like a fire escape that can only accommodate two thin people side by side. I was nervous about my 7 year old going out there. Because of Covid, the ice machine was obviously not filled and water was kept in a cooler in the lobby. The cooler did not have ice in it and the water was warm...other guests as well as myself could freely touch and take as we please without anyone cleaning.
We wouldn't be returning.

I stayed at the Bostonian Boston in March for an overnight trip and was very unhappy with my experience. First, there were pieces of hair on the shower walls prior to us even using the shower. Then, after showering, there were no towels provided in the room for us to dry off.l with. We called the front desk who had assured us that somebody would bring them up to our room. After 45 minutes and three phone calls, we had not yet received our towels. To make matters worse, when we were ready to turn in for the evening and pulled back the bedsheets there was no top sheet or fitted sheet on the bed And long pieces of hair between the pillows as well as pubic hair on the bed itself. While the front desk dealt with the issue by placing us in another supposedly cleaner room, we slept with the feeling that even in the new room, things had not been prepared or cleaned for someone to stay in.
I would hope that in the middle of a global pandemic with people of all health conditions seeking a way to escape their day to day, they could trust that they would be staying in a hotel room that had taken proper cleaning precautions to avoid potential infections from a previous guest. Both myself and the person I was staying with are immunocompromised and we felt very uneasy about the situation knowing that despite our own personal precautions (using a face mask and frequent sanitizing), that we were not safe in our own hotel room. Overall, we would seriously advise against staying at the Bostonian Boston until they can follow proper COVID-19 safety measures and ensure the comfort of all of their guests. I was unable to contact the hotel corporate number to discuss this matter due to a full mailbox which was incredibly frustrating due to the nature of our experience.
In addition, I would advise that if you do stay at the hotel, that you check your bank statements after you’ve stayed with the hotel to ensure that they are not charging you fees that you did not receive services for. I received a charge for nearly $100 following my stay and the hotel itself was unable to provide explanation as to why I was charged and could not advise me on the best way to reach the corporate offices.

Decent enough. Average. I wouldn't stay here again and neither should you. Here's why.
I booked my room directly through the hotel web site. They offer many packages for each room and state the price clearly for each package. The best price is the one where you pay in full (which is non-refundable) and that is what I did. I even became a Millennium member which further reduced my price. I paid for the room in full and at check out all of the applicable taxes are outlined which increases the room price. Pretty typical.
When i got my confirmation email, I noticed a note at the bottom that said "An additional Facility Fee of $25.00 USD per room, per night will be charged upon check-out". What? That doesn't apply to me because I have prepaid right? I called and then emailed the hotel to question whether the charge would apply to me. It took them a full day to respond to me and they advised me that there is a "mandatory facility fee" that applies to each room.
I’m not in the hotel business but I have stayed in MANY hotels and I have NEVER experienced anything like this. I understand that there are usually city charges and or local taxes charged that are in addition to the rate but mandatory added hotel charges? My charges all needed to be prepaid and were, but for the facility fee, which is in smaller print at the bottom of the page? Why would that charge be treated differently. Why not require me to prepay that charge as well so it is clear.
They know how many nights I will stay correct? Feels like the intent is to hide the charge?
The point is not the $25. The point is that I want to know what my all in cost of staying in the property is going to be. If you charge $25 per room per night, add that to your room charge. Detail it on the bill (and not in a smaller font on the bottom).
Don't make believe that I am paid in full and then hit me with another charge. I would have paid $25 more for the room.
I hope that this review is worth the added revenue you got from me.

Greetings Bankguy1961, thank you for staying with us at the Bostonian, we appreciate the opportunity to accommodate you and we value your feedback. What you are referring to is our Facility Fee which is $25 per night, inclusive of tax. While we regret this came as a surprise to you, we ask that you please refer back to your booking site, confirmation, and registration card reviewed with you upon arrival as this information was clearly provided to you up front along with all the inclusions. Even though travelers have become familiar with fees such as this that are common at many Boston and other large city hotels, our objective is to be completely transparent in every step of your experience from booking to checkout. We encourage all guests to book direct through our website for the most up-to-date, accurate information as well as our best rate guarantee. Thank you and best of luck. Safe travels until next time.

At Check in, was told no valet, had to park in a garage across the street for $40 a night. The room was $115 bucks, then they slap a $29 a night amenity fee on you for as they describe, coffee, pastry, newspapers and bottled water. The only one that existed was the water which was warm. The room was very loud. Insulation was awful. The restaurant was closed which was a disappointment but plenty of attractions in walking distance. We decided to stay another night, I asked them to waive the amenity fee, because well, there weren’t any amenities. Was told it’s part of the room charge. The front desk clerk was not personable at all. Would not stay here again.

I will update this before my stay if things change but need to warn others before booking and feeling stuck. I booked in advance and paid fully in advance for the 'best rate' option as a member. This rate boasts online and via advertising, "The lowest option, so low that we ask for it to be paid in full for you to lock in the best savings!" So I did that. Unfortunately I am paying DOUBLE now, and it gets lower each day I check. I called the hotel to see what they could do and they said they were not 'willing' to change it. This does not mean they can't. I hope it is worth it and I will update this to reflect how our stay goes. Be mindful that they seem to have a lot of cancellations and booking in advance is clearly not worth it financially for their loyal customers.

The location of the Bostonian is the one stand out - you are literally steps from many of Boston’s best spots. Unfortunately, the hotel itself is past it’s prime. The lobby is very dark and unwelcoming, has an odd smell, and cooler with bottled ice water (a nice touch) near the front desk was never cold (just wet from the melted ice). There was only one working elevator, and on our floor, a thermostat in the main hallway was hanging precariously from the wall. The $25 a night “resort fee” implies there is a resort, which could not be further from the truth. In fact, you have to request virtually everything (including room cleaning). The bed was decent, and I did appreciate that our room has a separate mirror/counter in addition to the bathroom. Clearly this property is relying on past positive reviews from better times, which given the stellar location, is too bad. With minimal effort, it could be much, much better.

My husband Joe and I are currently staying at the Bostonian Boston! We just got married this past week and decided to stay in Boston for a few nights as a “mini honeymoon” during all of this Covid craziness. The hotel is absolutely beautiful with breathtaking views of Faneuil Hall and the city within “spitting distance” of Quincy Market! Perfect location for anyone who wants to walk around downtown, Faneuil, and the North End. The employees working here are so nice and friendly! Troy checked us into the hotel and upon check in we mentioned we just got married. We had booked a standard room but he gave us a complimentary upgrade to a beautiful city view room with an adorable balcony overlooking Faneuil and the Quincy Market! We are so grateful to him as the room as perfect and the view is stunning. The other front desk staff and housekeeping and maintenance staff who we happened to meet while walking around were very nice as well. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a beautiful stay during all of this Covid craziness! View from room below.
