YOTEL Boston garners mixed reviews, with its prime location winning universal acclaim from guests for its proximity to local attractions and public transport. While opinions on value are divided due to hidden costs and small room sizes, the hotel's cleanliness and modern amenities are frequently praised. Service experiences vary, with reports of both commendable and disappointing encounters. The high-tech atmosphere and cleanliness are highlights, though the compactness and idiosyncrasies of the rooms receive some criticism.

The hotel is well located. The rooms are small, 14m2 and have psychedelic lights that you can change color to your liking (the default color is purple). The bed is comfortable and can be reclined. If you choose not to receive room cleaning service, they give you $5 in restaurant credit. The cheapest breakfast option costs 12 USD.

First and foremost, yes the hotel rooms are small. Let's get that out of the way :) If you can come to terms with dealing with limited space, you'll appreciate how awesome this place is. I've stayed at this Yotel before, and had a great experience that time as well. The room price is unbeatable, and in my experience, only had positive staff interactions. While the room is tiny, the space is efficiently designed. There is ample lighting, including a cool backlit tv. There is limited cabinet space and a rack for hanging clothes. The bath area is more than enough for solo travelers or travelers that pack on the lighter side. I loved the heated towel rack! There are water/ice machines on each floor, which was great for refilling water bottles.

At the time, the hotel experienced issues during a storm and was running on backup generators, but I would never have known if staff didn't proactively tell me. I did not experience any issues with appliances nor water temperature or pressure. I did get to check out the winter ski theme at the rooftop restaurant this visit. While it was too cold to dine outside, I did enjoy the menu indoors. They had limited options, but I had a wonderful drink and meal. Management was nice enough to come over and check on how I was doing.

The location is great. The seaport district has many dining and shopping options, with a variety of price points. There are budget, and many, upscale choices. This time of year is wonderful as the area is decorated for the holidays. The Snowport market is also very close, providing the opportunity to shop local businesses.

Summary:
+ Best hotel prices in town
+ Nice location
+ Lobby bar and rooftop restaurant on-site
- Parking is costly

Pros:
The room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. There's body wash, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, towels, and a hair dryer provided. I could see this being a decent stay for a single person on a work trip, provided you don't run into the following inconveniences I had during my weekend stay.
Cons;
There's little privacy in the bathroom, with it being separated by a curtain. The TV disconnected often, and would not reconnect with my phone for almost an entire day of our weekend stay. I could also only get youtube to stream when it did work; Netflix, Hulu and Crunchyroll did not work at all. When it did finally start working again, the video quality was awful, 240p at best, with lots of glitching and lag, and it stayed that way for the remainder of our stay. The wifi was constantly disconnecting and slow as well.
When room service came around, I said I didn't need new towels or sheets, but I had trash I wanted taken out of the room, but she left and no one ever came by to collect any of it. There was also one point where we requested silverware for food we ordered, and it took 20+ min to get it..

Echoing other reviews that said I was falsely charged with smoking. I woke up to a letter taped to my door informing me I would be charged an extra $500, along with a line graph that supposedly tracked the smoke in the room. They claimed they tried to call me but I never got a call. I don't smoke or vape. Like others have said, they wouldn't:

-explain the science behind the detector (they just gave me a graph, literally anyone can print a graph?)
-wouldn't check the room (if they had it would have been immediately apparent no one had smoked)
-absolutely would not listen to reason. Kept feeding me the same line:"YOTEL is a non-smoking hotel, and smoking indoors is prohibited under Massachusetts law." Wonderful, we agree indoor smoking is bad! I didn't break this law
- Also kept saying things along the lines of: "The charge was applied after our FreshAir sensor detected the combustion of smoke or marijuana in the room. The data was reviewed in detail by FreshAir before the fee was issued." I have been shown absolutely no evidence this detector is effective at detecting anything, nor any proof anyone thoroughly reviewed a single thing.

Book at your own risk.

Dear Connolly, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We understand your frustration regarding the smoking charge, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this caused. Our smoking policy is in place to ensure the comfort and safety of all guests, and we rely on FreshAir sensors, which are scientifically backed to detect changes in air quality specifically caused by tobacco or marijuana smoke. The data generated by these sensors is thoroughly reviewed before any fees are applied. We did make two attempts to contact your room by phone before sending someone to hand-deliver a note outlining our smoking policies and the detection by the sensor. We apologize if this communication was not as clear as it should have been. For more details on how the FreshAir sensors work, we encourage you to review the technology at https://freshairsensor.com/technology/. These sensors use advanced technology to detect the molecular changes in the air caused by smoking, providing accurate data without the need for physical evidence such as lingering smoke or odors. We appreciate your feedback and will use it to improve how we communicate these situations in the future. Warm regards, YOTEL Boston Team

We enjoyed our stay! The location was perfect. There is lots of shopping and dining nearby, and were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go (including all of the stops on the Freedom Trail from downtown to the North End and all the way up to the USS Constitution and Bunker Hill). I really don’t understand some of the less favorable reviews. The rooms were small (as we were expecting them to be), but they were very clean, stylish, and highly functional with plenty of amenities (safe, ironing board, smart tv, towel warmer, reclining bed, customizable lighting). Self-check in/out was a breeze, and the front desk staff were friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again—it’s a great value in an otherwise pricey area.

This hotel is very quirky and modern, the rooms are focused on being very space saving, a place for everything and everything in its place!
The bed seems to sit up to allow more space to move around then when you want to got to bed you use the controls to lower the bed flat, its really impressive. They have a nice big shower with glass surround but if you are sharing and want privacy they do provide a shower curtain also.
It's a great hotel for an over night stay I'd say, we stayed a for a night before boarding our cruise, its on the silver line2 T bus route (the Courthouse Station is just outside and only costs $2.40) to get to the cruise terminal from this hotel. By the way the Silver line1 from Logan Airport is FREE to the Courthouse Station.
There is a rooftop bar at the hotel but didn't use it as we got in too late. The staff were helpful on both check in and check out.
If you got time for some sightseeing the Boston Tea Party ships and Museum and The Children's Museum are just around the block.

We booked 2 rooms in Yotel for us and our 16 and 18 year old daughters via BA on our recent family holiday to NY and Boston. Our reasoning was that it was one of the higher reviewed ( 4 Trip Adviser dots) mid range hotels on offer on The BA partner sight for our package deal, and we thought the modern quirkiness would appeal to our daughters.

The location in Seaport is great, it’s a lovely neighbourhood, as well as being handy for the city centre, Freedom Trail and harbour.

The hotel is very clean with comfortable beds and daily housekeeping if required. The tiny rooms are okay if you get organised but maybe a rethink in design might accommodation a fridge and tea/coffee maker. After all, it has been some years since the inception of Yotel and customer requirements and the provision from competitors, has moved on - lots of chains are more impressive with tech these days. While the girls love the mechanical bed and ambient lighting the overall impression was “ a bit hospital” .

Hotel staff are generally friendly and helpful. Our main concern is about the general policies.

We were given a room key which wasn’t working. I went down to reception to ask that it be reset. The staff would not do so without my photo ID - which I’d left in the room . Security escorted me back upstairs to check my ID but on getting back downstairs, I was informed the problem was linked to the recent CrowdStrike issue so the key could not be reset. This meant I had to be escorted back to my room again as my husband was out. All in view of everyone in the lobby - not great. I noted the man in the queue behind me had the same key problem but was escorted upstairs without need of ID?

Also, the resort/destination fees are annoying, as we had already paid the room fees and taxes in advance. Overall, our NYC hotel earlier in the holiday, was still good value for a decent NY hotel, even with destination fees, because of amenities and vouchers but I am struggling to see what the benefits are here at Yotel. Additionally, given that destination/ resort fees are approx $ 25 a room per night, I have no idea why the hotel needed to take $100 per night per room as returnable security for the duration of our stay. On checking in, the card reader would not accept our card - maybe linked to CrowdStrike but at that point nobody said anything other than our card wasn’t working so we couldn’t check in, despite room fees and taxes having been already paid. The staff did manage to enable the transactions but we had about 24 hours on our credit card app. where $1600 ( 2 failed and 2 successful) transactions was “ maybe” going out as a returnable security on rooms which were already paid for.

I don’t think we will use Yotel again.

Reservation could not be located, reservation dates were not correct and rate couldn’t be verified. My reservation showed arrival date, room type and rate per night. Upon arrival, self check in didn’t recognize reservation name or confirmation number. Desk help is scant given the business model that all can be accomplished via self serve. Hotel reservation record was a day short compared to my reservation record (no changes at any time) and I was booked into handicapped room even though not requested. Because of the room type, they were initially unable to extend stay to original reservation departure date. They were able to extend to the original departure date but it took 24 hours to confirm. Room deposit fee was quite high. Room service menu extremely limited unless ordering a full $75+ meal. Room is very well appointed for minimal space.

We traveled to Boston for a family wedding and this was the cheapest of the 2 hotels offered by the wedding party. Personally, I have never stayed at a trendy hotel as I’m really not all about that. I also have never viewed the square footage of a room prior to my stay. From my travels in the US, hotels are fairly similar. While I should have known that wide angle views are always used for living quarters, I never realized how much they expand the area until I entered our 162sq.ft room (the other option which was slightly more expensive was 352sq.ft.
Bear in mind, we were there for 4 days both leisure and black tie. There are no closets, just 2 small hanging areas. There are 2 drawers about 12in x 12in x 4in, and no storage for suitcases.
When the bed is flat, there is about 14in between it and the TV on the wall. One side of the bed has no night stand. It is practically against the wall. There is a curtain to separate the entire bathroom area from the bed area. You can slide some stuff under the bed. There is one folding wooden banquet chair in a slot beside the one night stand.
The shower is large and a towel warmer is included in glass room where the toilet is. There is no exhaust fan in the bathroom.
However!!! There are many USB plugs, mood lighting around the TV in every color of the rainbow, nice large bottles of soap, shampoo, lotion, etc., a laptop safe in a drawer, mini divots for your phone to lay in and most importantly a bottle opener on the wall beside the TV and a robot to bring you towels if needed.
There was a party in the room beside us for which we could hear the talking, laughing and music into the wee hours of the morning.
They do collect a $100/night deposit for any damages plus $55/night valet. The staff is very friendly and helpful. This is just not a hotel for the practical, but it is clean and conveniently located with very friendly staff.

This concept, becoming popular in Europe, of a room that feels like a monk’s cell or in this hotel’s case, the inner cabin on a cruise ship, may shock Americans not used to having very little space in a hotel room. We booked a standard room for a week’s stay. Room was so tight, the bed had a button which draws a quarter of it up the wall so you can pass to the toilet area. A rough estimate of the size of the room may be 18’ or 20’ x 8’ before you hit the set of drawers in the wall. Also $60 a night VALET only parking so if you leave something in your car, ONLY the valet on duty can get it. The hotel was very centrally located within walking distance to several restaurants. Also close to the convention center. I really felt bad that I rated this hotel as poor because others may not mind such a set up. If we had been used to the new concept, this hotel would be average.
