Location: The hotel is located directly in the heart of Boston’s financial district, very closed with the tube/metro, in front of the State House building. It’s a good base for visiting the town. The harbor is about 5 minute walking, the famous mall is placed after few blocks. Great view from the room. Staff: Very kind and giving the right...

I stayed at the Ames Boston Hotel when in Boston visiting my son in college. I had booked thru Priceline rather than the hotel itself, and when I went to check in, they did not have my reservation - yikes! The staff at the front desk were so fantastic, they didn't miss a beat. They not only found a room...

My wife and I spent 2 nights at the Ames this past weekend. The hotel was a beautifully renovated building in a great location in downtown Boston. The staff was excellent-front desk staff worked smoothly and were attentive to our needs. The breakfast was served in a well cared for area that was staffed by two Polish women who were...

I was blown away by the room size, location, view and amenities. The staff was very helpful and trying to go the extra mile. Small things like the cappuccino machine downstairs and excellent buffet breakfast made the stay better.

Hotel is/was going through renovations so very inconvenient. We had to go to the second floor to check-in; there wasn't any sign in the entry area directing us where to go to check in. I just decided to go up a level. the two elevators are quite small; at one point one elevator stopped working. We had to take the...

Thank you for choosing to stay with us Richard F. We appreciate your feedback about your stay, but are disappointed to hear we fell a bit short. Our recent renovations did move our check-in area to the 2nd floor temporarily, and we are really sorry if this caused any confusion or inconvenience. We are happy to say that the enhancements...

Booked this earlier in the year, it was an offer upgrading to room with panoramic views. Arrived at the hotel and was told the restaurant and bar were closed for refurbishment. We hadn't been notified of this previously. We got to our room - the view was of the office block on the other side of the road. When we...

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us Caroline1964. Our team was really disappointed after hearing about your stay with us. I just left the Hotel after three nights and four days. We stayed in room 1404 which had a marvelous view. The staff is utterly in experienced and has no earthly idea how to accommodate guests at a 4 or 5 star hotel. It took an hour to get ice. On one occasion I called the so-called front desk and I...

I can't say enough about how great the staff is at this hotel. I spent 4 nights with my family in Ames last week. Location is excellent - walking distance from North End, Boston Common/Public Park, Freedom Trail. Across the road from State Street metro. Room was OK but bed was small, room cleaning was erratic and no space to relax either in room or the hotel generally. Renovation is on-going which may...

I booked two double rooms. One was much larger and nicer than the other. It was nice to have wood floors. The main restaurant was closed for renovations while I was there. Windows do not provide soundproofing from street noise. Breakfast is not worth purchasing for $18.00 pp. Fanuel Hall is around the corner with much better choices!

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
The largest area of the city, Downtown is rich with historical and iconic sites in Boston. Stroll through one of Boston’s most famous green spaces, the Boston Public Gardens, check out and make way for duckling statues, picnic under a beautiful tree overlooking the pond, and walk over the iconic footbridge where, during summer time, you will catch a swan boat toting children and eager tourists through the pond. Have your camera ready to capture its peaceful beauty in the middle of a bustling city. Continue on through the Gardens and take in some open green space at the Boston Common, where you can spend time throwing a frisbee, sitting on a park bench, or, in the winter time, skating on the frog pond. Head north from the end of the Common to see the golden dome of the State House, and travel through government center to Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall, both a historic and popular destination worth a quick visit for a first time to Boston. Head to Long Wharf to visit the Aquarium, or catch a boat to Charlestown or even Cape Cod.
