Nestled in the heart of downtown, Moxy Boston Downtown is often celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere and modern decor. Guests commend the hotel for its cleanliness and the staff's attentive service, highlighting the pristine rooms and personalized care. However, some guests caution about the compact and sparsely furnished rooms, alongside a level of noise that can intrude on the comfort of your stay. While the central location is popular for its convenience, the overall value proposition is marred by perceptions of high prices and additional fees.

We had a quick getaway weekend to Boston to see a show and wanted to stay close to the T And the theater district, well, this hotel checked all the boxes. The Moxy is super close to the Boylston T stop on the Green line, and right around the corner from the Emerson Colonial Theatre where were to see the show. It was also close to several fine restaurants. I've been to Boston many times and "gotten my steps in" but this hotel was literally within 2 blocks of everything, including the Boston Common.

The hotel certainly has a funky vibe, very colorful and industrially decorated, but welcoming and family friendly. There are games scattered around the bar, and Jenga on the tables. I saw a family playing foosball and a bachelorette party enjoying themselves while I sat and waited in the bar. The wait staff was not pushy when I told her I was just waiting for someone.

The room was city sized. Yes by that I mean small, however they made the most of every inch of space. There was one upholstered chair next to the bed, then the side table and luggage rack hung on the wall. Too have to see it, rather than a closet there are multiple hooks along the wall. Again a clever use of space. Don't worry the shower is plenty big with a giant sundial of a showerhead. The hotel provides hair and body wash in one and conditioner in larger bottles being mindful of the environment. The bed was super comfortable. The only downside of the room was I was surprised how loud
the sirens were overnight even though we were on the 14th floor.

The morning staff was as pleasant as the evening staff. No need to go out and find breakfast, it's available and the hotel. Kudos to the person on staff the morning of March 8th. He was very pleasant with everyone who came in, and was constantly moving and working.

If you are looking for a conveniently located hotel with a bit of funk, but still feel like you fit in, then try The Moxy!

Stayed for 5 days over New Years. We booked a wicked awesome view room & were surprised with the room size after reading negative reviews on here. I thought it would be a lot smaller than it was. A cool, funky looking room. We loved the view of Boston common, the river & downtown Boston. Really great views from 1804. The bed did seem small for a queen size, more of a double but we still slept well. The bill boards outside didn’t bother us like some people have previously mentioned & even though there was road noise & sirens it didn’t keep us awake (I’m a light sleeper) nice powerful shower which is always a plus, the complimentary shampoo/body wash & conditioner was a nice touch. The room was clean however the floor was full of hair & bits, at the side of the bed there was a receipt & rubbish from previous guests, we asked twice at the front desk for the floor to be cleaned & it wasn’t, this is unacceptable. In the end we got the vacuum from one of the cleaners & hoovered it ourselves as no one did anything about it. Apart from that we loved the room. Staff around the hotel were friendly. The gym was good, small & a few missing attachments to the cable machine but was able to work out. We loved the bar & all the games to play, such fun. Free arrival was cocktail was yummy. Fab location & in walking distance to everything you need. The hotel had a good vibe to it & looked nice from the outside. The bar & rooftop bar didn’t bother us, could hear no noise from either of them even when there was a New Year’s Eve party going on. The key card for the lift worked well, we didn’t have a problem with it, just hold the key on the sensor for a few seconds. We would stay in this hotel again if we were to return to Boston.

Booked this room on the same day we checked in specifically to watch the 4th of July fireworks at Boston Common. Made a couple of calls before I did so, and the two different front desk staff who answered my questions were very nice and extremely helpful. The River View room we were in did not offer a great view of the river, but did afford us an awesome, unobstructed view of the fireworks one block away. Ensconced in a room on the 18th floor, the fireworks display was almost at eye level.

Despite Marriott being our go-to hotel, with 2 dozen brands this is our first time to stay in a Moxy. The room's much smaller than we expected but clean. The bathroom size is decent considering how small the room was. There are some details however that actually make this a better choice compared to similarly-priced hotels. The shower, for one, is glass-enclosed and have tiles and a rain showerhead, as opposed to the tub & shower combo with shower curtains. The floor is laminated wood, not carpet. In a walking city like Boston, that's a must for some people.

With the hotel a block away from Boston Common as well as Chinatown, and being in the theater district, restaurants are aplenty. Our stay, despite how brief it was, was definitely worth it.

I have been at the Moxy for < 30 minutes and am already absolutely regretting my choice of this Marriott property. As a Titanium traveler, I expect just a modicum of service, empathy, and expertise.

Instead the Moxy seems to trading on a good location (positive – so I acknowledge that), trying to be trendy (not of interest to me as a frequent traveler but I’ve stayed at enough of these brands in the Marriott family to know one always sacrifices some degree of expertise in the name of being “cool”) and a young staff that unfortunately seems to be less interested in hospitality professionalism or being professional Marriott hoteliers vs. being cool and hip.

Three (3) examples in just the first 30 minutes: 1) there is NO enhanced internet here (despite users being prompted for such at this property when first connecting to the Internet and Antonios Tran (Front Office Manager) apparently not being aware of such as – when I called to inquire – he said he’d check with Engineering, only to have his junior staff call me a few minutes later to say that there is no enhanced internet. So why the automatic pop up offer and request to pay $14.95 – why no further accommodation for Marriott elite travelers that count this as an important part of the experience? Why not warning at check in that it doesn’t exist?.

2) when I had a question about my booking at check in (two back to back bookings), Antonios seemed disinterested in getting up from his chair which was visible from the front desk check in area, 5 years away, and coming over to introduce himself, speak with me and understand my issue; and

3) the rooms are small, there is no closet, no complementary water. I also had to prompt the junior check in staff about my gift declaration.

Again, I don’t expect that much at these trendy hip properties but believe they should be run professionally. When I get a warmer welcome and better front office management attention at lesser brands in the chain (i.e. Courtyard by Marriott; Fairfield Suites) it is a problem.

Moxy should be less about trend and more about providing a Marriott-class hospitality service. Right now, it is too little of the latter based on my experience thus far.

Therefore, unless you are a traveler that really needs this location or is lured by the “trendy” nature of the property, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and certainly not include Antonios Tran as a Marriott Front Office Manager that cares about his guests, knows the Marriott computer systems, etc. He really seemed to have little interest / concern about resolving my situation. I don't mind inexperience but I do mind people that show little interest in interacting with customers, understanding their concerns, etc. These are not Marriott ambassadors.

I am currently staying at the Moxy for my second time while visiting Boston. I will stay a 3rd, 4th, and so on in the future. This will be my Boston go-to hotel, the value, location, and room types are perfect! I enjoy the coziness of the smaller rooms, they come compact, clean, and with a modern feel. ( new hotel opening 2019 & for the value / the best you can get) I do not want to leave when I visit for leisure. Today I booked an extra night because I felt so cozy here this morning.

( all I need on this type of trip)

Uber picks up right out front without issue, getting to my hair appointment at Michel Albor hair salon on Newbury Street right on time. Also, had a second Uber pick up right out front today again with no issues or hassles. Ordered take-out sushi from the Japanese restaurant Genki Ya, directly across the street. (Would order again) There are plenty of good restaurants in the area, the location is central. Also, as most resorts/hotels have an added fee these days, I enjoy the $25 + complimentary drink gift cards they give in return. Hey, I was going to spend money on those items anyway, so it feels as though the hotel fee is free. I loaded up on drinks last night at the bar area and was able to take them up to the room. This evening I just loaded up on Voss sparkling waters, bottled water, an apple, and a hot tea. (Not bad)

The overall vibe here is relaxed, on both trips I have noticed a mixed crowd. Younger to middle-aged, business, leisure, foreign type of trippers, etc. All seemingly professionally natured with no issues, privacy is valued. The decorations in the hotel are fun and interesting to experience for surroundings while visiting. As Moxy is set up for a ''its show time'' type of theme. I like it, it is different and that is why I will continue to visit. Also, am a fan of Marriot, and Bonvoy's are a nice branch under their corporate brand. Do not forget to sign up for a Marriot Bonvoy loyalty points membership!

If I had to sum up our experience at this hotel, it would be "mixed". As you can tell when you read the other reviews, there are some good things about this place, mixed with some not so great things. For the good things, our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. There isn't a lot of furniture in the room, but they have some chairs and a little table hanging on hooks that you can pull down if you want to use them. The location is very close to the T and Boston Common, and if you're going to go to the theaters, there's probably not a better location than this.

The things that frustrated me about this hotel were mostly little, but piled up. As others have said, the road noise is loud at night (why so much honking in the middle of the night?). They do provide earplugs and a sound machine, but our sound machine was broken. The remote for our TV was also missing and the buttons on the TV itself were nonresponsive. There is also no lotion provided in the room, in case you are someone that relies on that being there and don't typically bring your own. I don't like being the kind of person who bugs hotel staff for anything, but we were sort of put in a position where we had to call to ask questions or request replacement items.

Lastly, when we checked in, they gave us $75 worth of "hotel credit" to use at the bar and restaurant for breakfast and made it sound like it was a perk of our reservation. But when we checked out, they charged us for the same amount that the credit was for, so it's a bit misleading that they call it hotel credit at all. If you're going to stay, I'd make sure to go out of your way to use those credits so that you do at least get something for what they're going to charge you. There was no mention of this charge when we checked in or out, it was buried in the fine print of our confirmation email. The staff should mention this extra charge when you check in.

Overall, this was an OK hotel to stay at. There were a lot of things about it that were off, but the basics - a clean room and comfortable bed - were solid.

I’m not one for writing terrible reviews, but for practically a brand new hotel this place is not off to a good start. CONS: The rooms are extremely small with only a bed and foldable desk and chair due to space restraints. There is no closet and the full size mirror on the wall behind the sliding bathroom door fell off the wall the first hour I was in the room. It was put back in with liquid nails and was tapped back up. Hopefully that holds for the nexts guests in the room. The walls were so thin I could tell what movie the next room was watching (Rush Hour 2 if that helps anyone with this review). The water pressure was so low the morning I was leaving I could not take a shower. The picture I attached is the highest pressure I could get it at, and that’s all the way to the cold setting. Also, either lots of people smoking weed in the hotel or Snoop Dog was in a room near me. My room reeked of it on multiple occasions.
Was due to Covid, but the bar (and I use that word lightly due to the size of the bar area) was only accessible to people order the finger foods on the menu. If you wanted a drink you had to take it back to your room to drink it.
PROS: Staff was all very friendly and quick to resolve the issue of the mirror incident. The hotel is very modern and is visually appealing. There is a QR code in your room where you can order bar food and some drinks to go from the bar downstairs from your phone. The location is pretty good for getting around major parts of Boston. Price in my opinion was high for the little amount of what you get, but once COVID restrictions are lifted and the rooftop bar is reopened I would say it would be priced fairly.

We spent two nights at Moxy Boston for a theater trip to town. It's Marriott, but definitely not your typical Marriott.
Check in was easy and friendly. We were given a room on the 19th floor, per our request. Mario, at the desk, was welcoming and explained what was available at Moxy. We were given generous vouchers for free drinks and for food and drink at the bar/restaurant. It took the sting out of the "destination fee" that is slapped onto hotel stays these days. More free drink vouchers for friends coming to meet us.
Our room was not huge, but it wasn't tiny, either. We had a nice view. Details in the room were well thought out and useful. No dressers or closets, but plenty of pegs to hang clothes. The bathroom was also well designed, putting everything in reach, and places to hang towels. The shelf by the sink could have been wider, but it was fine.
It was very clean. The staff was responsive when I called about a problem with the handle in the shower. Someone was there to fix it within 5 minutes. A request for extra pillows made on our way out was fulfilled by the time we returned to the room.
The only negative about our room was the street noise over night. Motorcycle traffic was very loud. But there were earplugs and a white noise machine at our disposal to make it a little better.
We would definitely return to Moxy, maybe on the other side, just to see if it was quieter. Over all, it was a great stay and a fun experience.

The room was really well done - clever placement of outlets with USB ports, convenient folding tables, chairs, and a suitcase holder, and we really loved the cute hangers that came with the room. My fiancee and I loved every second of the design, it's hip, funky, and had the feel we were looking for in a hotel. Complimentary earplugs help with the busy streets of Boston - literally, everyone honks all over the city lol it's "east coast charm" I suppose. This concept is made for the lively and the living, so if you want quiet and a place to be that's not out and about in the city, then go to the W or something; this hotel is for people who want to engage, make friends, and be OUT in the city - I mean come, it's vacation people!

We will definitely return, the views were great and the location is about as good as it gets, really close to the Logan Airport.

Excellent based on value, I have definitely stayed in rooms much bigger with more amenities but for the price, it’s an excellent find. I Stayed here for a business trip and was pleasantly surprised. It’s got a club-like funky vibe to it. Libby has a cool bar and places to set up and work for the day. Music is a bit loud during the day to have any calls but the atmosphere is good and you can definitely get work done. Rooms are small but include most things you would need for any trip. Not much room to work in the room but really is perfect for the price you pay, assuming you out sightseeing or working most of the day and not spending a lot of time in the room. Very clean and practical. I would definitely stay here again. Walking distance to most major attractions downtown
