The Boxer Boston hotel boasts a prime location that many guests appreciate for its convenience to local attractions. While the staff often receives commendations for their friendliness, the service has been noted for its inconsistency, especially regarding maintenance and room servicing. The atmosphere is deemed cozy by some, but the small rooms and outdated decor have not gone unnoticed. Cleanliness is generally upheld, though minor issues are sometimes reported. Reviewers frequently criticize the value, citing hidden fees and excessive charges, which, along with mixed feedback on amenities, suggests room for improvement in the overall guest experience.

My husband and I enjoyed a one night stay at The Boxer when visiting Boston for a show at TD Garden. Check in was easy and the women at the front desk were very kind and knowledgeable. Parking is a 5 minute walk away at the Government Center garage (check in first before parking to get a discounted rate of $50). I was surprised that the on-site restaurant was only open until 9pm, but luckily there are many other options in the area. The room was small but the beds were very comfortable, the TV had a good amount of channels, the bathroom was clean, and there were complimentary water bottles. For the price we got through Hotels.com, we were happy with our stay and would return.

The Boxer is a beautiful hotel in the city. It’s comfortable, clean and has everything you need for a relaxing a stay. Very close to TD Garden and the train station but also walkable to just about any part of downtown Boston. This was our third stay and plan on staying here again!

Like all hotels, the experience depends in part on the room, your neighbors and your needs. We did hear some loud children through wall from room behind our bed, but once I made some noise or said something loud, they got the point and that ceased. Despite that one or two nights of brief disturbance, we loved the hotel, including its central location, staff who helped us whenever we asked, updated bathrooms, efficient room layout, and small number of rooms per floor keeps the noise down since long halls cause people to talk, holler or even run loudly when you're sleeping. So this room offers a great experience. We'd love to come back.

This property oddly has decent reviews. It's a 3 star property at best, something I'd expect with a budget hotel similar to a Hampton Inn. The petite lobby has potential with some refresh and tidying. If you're looking for quiet that is a bonus, no buzzy energy.

The room had a low grade mildew or damp basement smell. The bathroom finishes could use some updating as the shower bar is rusting, the shower faucet handle is loose the shower curtain is very low quality line, there are no hooks or shelving at the entry of the room. In general the quality feels very economical.

No parking on site or valet - they are clear about this. The suggested Government Center ramp requires you walk through an area that you need to be mindful of during non-business hours. Street parking is likely not a option given street cleaning and residential permitting. It's best if you do not have a car. You pay for parking, this is not a free option.

We opted to not dine in the restaurant or order room service as the space was mostly vacant - not a good sign.

Overall this is a 3 star hotel in need of some updates and attention. Nothing special here.

The positives:
- good location for easy access to Boston
- slippers
- robes (although I questioned the cleanliness)
- complimentary bikes for use during day light hours

If you want a convenient location for a night or two, like cute but impractical furniture, have money to burn and are over 5’5”, this might work for you.
The storage is wholly inadequate for 2 people for more than 1 or 2 nights. 18 inches of hanging space and the one drawer would not open more than a couple of inches as it was squished up against the bed. Once this was sorted, gymnastics were still required to make use of the drawer. Ditto the safe and coffee machine: standing on the bed was required to access these. I raised the storage challenges a number of times and was met with the same response of it being “the pattern of the room” and a level of indifference which was disappointing.
Having to request replenishing of towels and toiletries as this was not carried out consistently was irritating. The hole in the robe, lack of cups to use for the fruit infused water and lemonade of which they are quite proud and less than clean elevator smacks of a poorly run establishment.
What is disappointing also is that a number of issues that I have mentioned, particularly staff training, have been raised over the last 12 months in other reviews and they have learnt nothing.
Please excuse the mess in the pics, but, as noted above, storage was challenging. Oh, and the inexplicable cage that the TV is in obscures the screen.
I did raise issues with the team but as they weren’t particularly interested, seemed to find customer service a bit of an irritation and it was eating into my holiday, I gave up.

The hotel itself is in a fairly good location for local attractions but the overall comfort and service was somewhat lacking. Our room was extremely small and the bed which was probably the smallest we’ve ever had on a trip to the USA was up against a wall making it necessary to climb over my wife when I needed to use the bathroom during the night. Our room was not serviced on our last full day even though we had been out for around 12 1/2 hours of the day so when we got back in the evening we had to make our own bed and collect fresh towels from the reception.

On check in you feel more of a hindrance than a guest. But it was quick.
First thing I noticed when entering the room is how big the base of bed was- it was way bigger than the mattress and was no space to walk, we kept hitting shins.
There are holes in bedding and towels (see pics) not what I would expect from any hotel. They give 2 cups and 3 coffees in room different types - one cup was full of chips, we drank 1 coffee and next day asked for more of the regular coffee told no.
The tv was broke the blind was broke and the noise from the lift is terrible, people laughing and talking echos through your room. It felt like a really budget hotel, we traveling different states in usa from England and the night before we stayed in motel and it was way better than this place. I don’t know what standard of hotel the people who give this 5 are used to
they charge you $29 per night “amenity charge” they say for this you get a free drink at bar and $20 off breakfast- which is lovely but it’s only ONCE per stay- so if you are here more than 1 night you’re paying an extra $29 on your stay for nothing

Breakfast was very quiet, food was okay cold but tasted okay. The cutlery was so thin and cheap the knife bent when I was cutting, I’ve never known such thin cutlery- just feels cheap all round.

If you looking for a good location this is it but if you want some extra comforts it’s not for you. Holes in bedding and broken tv is not what I expect from this hotel.

Stayed here for a night as it is close to the airport. Room was up on the ninth floor but you could hear all of the traffic. Room was nice. Sink was very slow to drain. Toilet handle had to be held down for 30 seconds for toilet to flush. Parking is messed up. Park out front. Put your bags in your room. Then you have to drive two blocks for off-site parking. The hotel charges you $40 which is substantially cheaper but come on man. Get a valet to park the car. Luxury hotel? No. Staff was friendly.

We stayed at the Boxer for three nights and the only thing I can recommend is the price and downtown location . There were many things that bothered me 1 $69 absurd resort fee . When I asked why the answer was water in the room and an exercise unit . For a four star hotel there was no bell service just one cart which if being used it was a long wait . The front door was never locked at night and due to the entrance ramp configuration someone could walk in off the streets snd be roaming the halls unchallenged as the small front desk was often left unattended . The room was very small without a closet and two medium to small towels were all that were supplied other than a washcloth . Once again not 4 star . The parking is three blocks away and for someone not accustomed to a downtown some sketchy environment not safe for night walking especially unaccompanied . The overall experience is one I fo not recommend and if there are Sny other hotels at the same price point I would highly recommend looking elsewhere . One final note is the hotel added the $69 fee again after I already paid it as part of the original reservation sealing this review of extreme dissatisfaction

The hotel has a great location, nice views from the top floors. But the rooms are not as clean as they should be, and the service is, well, weird. We were a family of three and had a junior suite, but the bedding provided for the pull out couch was a very thin and not very nice blanket. The room safe did not work. The walls are thin and you hear everything that happens in the hallway.

But it’s the service that is the real issue. We asked for an additional towel (only two were provided) and they never brought it to us. They did not clean our room, or replace coffee supply. When we called down the next day to ask for the towel (again) and coffee replacement, they were annoyed and made excuses for why they had not cleaned and replaced the prior day, and why they would prefer to not do so now, before grudgingly bringing the requested items up. The whole experience makes one feel like an unwanted houseguest, rather than welcomed customer. Too bad, as the building and location are pretty cool-could be a fantastic place if they took more care of the place were more thoughtful and interested in their customers.
