Detailed Reviews
We stayed 8 days in August 2020 and we were very pleased with the Custom House. I was a bit concerned about staying in a high rise due to Covid but we were pleasantly surprised at the protocols the hotel has set up to ensure social distancing. The room was spacious and very nicely decorated. I also really liked that the hotel is so close to many great restaurants. I was able to park my car myself everyday right in front of the hotel, I was grateful the hotel did not require me to use valet (even though self park was just as expensive as valet parking, I did not want anyone entering my car due to Covid) The hotels provided 3 washers and 3 dryers free to guests. Housekeeping does not enter the room but they do bring up anything you may need such as towels, soap, shampoo, etc. There were a few things that annoyed me a bit but it did not affect my 5 star score...1) The Marriott Vacation club salesperson at the entrance of the hotel was a bit annoying. She was very nice but too persistent. I told her from the moment she first tried to feed me her sales pitch that I was not interested in any Marriott Vacation Club membership a/k/a Timeshare but each time she saw me she asked me if I wanted to participate in the 90 minute presentation. She offered me 20k Marriott rewards to just sit down with her and give her my information which I did and she never credited my account with the Marriott Rewards points. 2) Elevators - The building only has two elevators on the lower floors and they are more often than not used by the staff. When the staff was with a supervisor and the door opened they stepped out and allowed the guest to use the elevator. But when the housekeepers were alone they would never get out for us...this happened at least 6 times.

A five star experience every single staff member were amazing helpful and caring. The rooms are first class well serviced, The reception staff go out there way, welcoming you every time you pass as if you were royalty. Within the hotel there is a well equipped gym, a well equipped room for children to play in and the games room with a snooker table kept us entertained. The laundry room in the hotel which costs nothing to use is a great asset. Lastly the location of the hotel is perfect everything you need is within walking distance including public transport. A winner in every way. Thank you.

Just 20 mins from airport by Lyft. Love the location near the Boston Harbour and Quincy market. About 15 mins walk to the shopping area and China Town.
The room was clean and has good view of the harbour. We were on the 8th floors, wished we were on the higher 20+ floor, would get a much better view. We were told that the higher floors reserved for the owners. The room has mini kitchen (Microwave and Kitchenware) So we had a quick oatmeal for breakfast then went out for a good meals at the market and china town.
This time the observation deck was closed so didn't get a chance to take good photos.
There are complimentary washing and dryer machines on the gaming floor which a good place to hang out with family for a pool game or chess.
The overall experience is ok, feel good to get a chance to stay in the historic building with a very nice decorated room. We stay for 4 nights but wish could stay longer, there are so many great dinning places.

We checked into the Marriott Custom House on a Sunday late afternoon. We had received several phone calls from Custom House employees prior to our visit to make sure that accommodations and travel plans were all set. So there were no surprises and the check in desk and valet were all waiting for us. Check in was seamless and quick.
All Covid protocols were followed by staff and guests. Sanitizer stations are in the lobby and public areas with non-touch dispensing. Only one family permitted in elevators at a time and housekeeping personnel are actively cleaning during the days.
It was obvious that our accommodations were sanitized and cleaned appropriately prior to our initial entry into the room. As expected, housekeeping would not clean our room on a daily basis due to the pandemic. However, all of our needs for extra linens/towels or more coffee were quickly delivered within a few short minutes.
This facility has activities/tours available for their guests during their stay. It is a robust schedule of FREE programs within the facility and walking tours of the historic sections of Boston.
The activities are overseen by two amazing employees: Devon and Kurt. Their goal is to make sure the guests are provided with a pleasant experience either educational or tastings
Here are some samples:
Dark chocolate tasting
Cannoli tasting
Tiramisu tasting
Beer tasting
Whiskey tasting
Tour of facilities and history of the Custom House
Tour of the Boston North End
Tour of the Freedom Trail
Tour of the Markets
Tour of Beacon Hill
I will add that Kurt is educated with multiple degrees as a historian and this is clearly evident with his anecdotal stories of Boston’s long history.
Such a wonderful stay in Boston. Kudos to Marriott.

Let’s start with the highlights. The first for me is the coolness factor. You’re staying in an old clock tower! With an observation deck on the 26 th floor! You are also steps away from the Freedom trail and Fanieul Hall. The location is amazing. The rooms are lovely. We chose this hotel in part because the two room configuration gave our group some privacy and was less expensive than two hotel rooms. This is a Marriott timeshare/hotel property so many in suite amenities. The staff is phenomenal. So friendly and helpful.
Now the things that keep this from being five stars. Elevators. Two for the entire property. Slow and the staff have to use them too. The continental breakfast is what you’d get anywhere else as a freebie but here you’re paying 2.25 for a half size contained of yogurt, box of cereal, packet of oatmeal etc. It seemed cheap to say the least, when we were paying a LOT for the room. I would also avoid rooms ending in 01…we were in 601 and our bedroom backed up on one of the elevators. It took 24 hours for us to realize that we weren’t hearing the sound of jets takjng off from Logan. It was the elevator! It was very loud. Also it would be helpful to have the option of TV checkout so you don’t have to wait in line. Bottom line is we did love our stay and the next time we visit we will know how to make our stay even better.

I’ve been coming to this Hotel for years and at this point I know some of the staff on a first name basis and they know mine. This time though was the first that I’ve brought my kids (11 and 13).
The staff went out of their way to make them feel special and appreciated. We were greeted with big smiles and a welcome back attitude that was was apparent wherever we went.
I recognize staff members who have been there for all the years I’ve been coming and they still are there now, just as pleasant as they were twenty years ago.
That’s says everything you need to know. This hotel, just like so many other Marriotts around the world, takes care of their staff. They’ve created an atmosphere where the staff feel “a part of” instead of just a part, and in turn you get to feel a part of that family as well
I’m a Marriott guy, no question about it, and that makes me biased. But that bias has been earned over the years and this hotel has been a huge part of that. And now thanks to this place my kids are Marriott people as well.
Again I say, if your staying in Boston and your not sleeping in the Marriott custom house you really need to ask yourself why.
When you look forward to going back to your hotel room as much as you did seeing the sites you came for, you know your staying at a Marriott.

I just stayed at the Custom House for the first time (March 2021) and wanted to share my thoughts about my very pleasant stay.
The Custom House is truly one of the most unique properties that Marriott has to offer. The history of the building alone is worth the price of admission (in this case the hotel room rate) let alone the magnificent views, the amazingly convenient location and (last, but certainly not least) the wonderfully friendly and supportive staff.
As part of Marriott's Vacation Club, it is obvious that the Custom House is a highly sought after property. Given the structure of the original Custom House was constructed in the mid 1800's, the conversion of the building to accommodate the needs of today's travelers is remarkable. A very tasteful conversion and updating of the entire building including the reception area, guest rooms, and common areas. In addition, while a limited number due to the vertical nature of the building, a very efficient elevator system.
A specific shoutout to Barbara Hugo, a guest services associate who was supervising the reception area when I checked in. Barbara is a consummate professional. She actually supervised a quite new associate checking me and helping in a very supportive way. Barbara's ability to assist the new associate in feeling comfortable in learning the check-in process is a tremendous skill that unfortunately is not recognized as much as it should. In addition, being greeted by Barbara throughout the week I stayed as I came and left showed her care for not only the Custom House property, but, also the guests themselves.
Thank you Custom House for a wonderful stay.

My family stayed here for 4 nights in April. It is walkable from South Station, and easy to find throughout the stay due to the clock tower. The pullout couch was comfortable (and not a cheap pad on strings), and requested a rollaway bed (which is the size of a twin mattress, it's big, so keep in mind that it doesn't fold away inconspicuously in the morning). The views were nice, and they had a few amenities that we all enjoyed (cocktail hours, snacks). Although we have kids we did not use the kids room or movie room (we were fine with watching tv in our own room). We went to the activity room for 30 minutes to play checkers and pool, and went a few times to the observation deck.
It is centrally located, so it was convenient that as we walked past it to drop off and pick up items. There is a market we found a few blocks away (Golden Goose Market) that we stopped at for beers, breakfast items, and snacks. They also sell hot items.
Boston is a very walkable city and anywhere from the state house end of boston commons to the Paul Revere house is centrally located and walkable for a family. So while this was a great experience here, I would open up the area we stay at for future visits.

Great hotel. I wish they would provide more security for the observation deck. The night of the Harborfest fireworks, July 2, 2022 several Marriott Vacation Club members that were NOT staying at the resort camped out in the observation deck for hours and blocked the premium view of the fireworks. These people were locals taking advantage of something nice that’s meant for guests.

How cool is it to actually stay in the clock tower in the heart of Boston! Located adjacent to Faneuil Hall and the Quincy Market, the location is great. Most business and tourist destinations in the city are walking distance, as is the ferry and both North and South Stations if you want to take the train out of the city. The rooms are all suites with plenty of room for a family of 4 or a couple who wants to have more room than just a studio. Service was excellent, accommodations classy, the property historic and the views from the rooms or observation deck spectacular. Enjoy!
