Our stay was a quick one nighter but it was very enjoyable. Even though our room was near the street, it was pretty quiet. The service here is amazing. I left my water bottle somewhere between my room and the housekeeping manager PJ literally went and searched and checked for me until he found it! Emma was very communicative throughout the process as well. Will come back because of the staff and ambiance!

Would recommend this hotel for the quality, the location, and the value. Renovations are great and bring a modern touch to the hotel. Feels more like an apartment than a hotel room. Our room had a a separate work area which was ideal for getting some “remote work” done.
I wish the rooms had more shelves or drawers to my clothes away… It’s a shame that such a nice space got cluttered living out suit cases or placing clothes around in odd places. Also, it would be nice to have a coat hook by the door, but a request for more hangers took care of that.
Entire staff was very good and consistent with what you would expect at a Kimpton
Great location for all that the Gas Lamp area has to offer (including the grime and stench). Make sure your window or slider is closed fully because the area gets loud at night.
Had brunch a couple of times and hors d’Oeuvres at Hotel restaurant l. It was very good and would recommend (even with many other options in the area).

We were most grateful to get an upgrade to a suite for our 5 night stay. The bedroom was large with ample storage, and bathroom was also large with a walk in shower. The staff were professional and friendly. The hotel is located near the Gaslamp Quarter and there are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from in the area. It's also located near the trolley and it was quite the adventure when we caught one to the Las Americas Premium Outlets !! The Level 4 hotel restaurant/bar was closed for renovations then but it looked like a very nice area to have a drink.

We were pretty disappointed with our stay- partly hotel, partly location, partly service.

1) our room wasn’t serviced the first day despite being out the whole time
2) we were given an adjoining room- which turned out to have no sound proofing, and were kept awake 3 of the 4 nights by the people next door coming in late with also other guests in their room up chatting loudly. Despite complaining to reception, nobody offered to move us room
3) downtown area around the hotel has become over run with homeless. All outside the hotel it’s an issue. Certainly wouldn’t recommend this location to females alone.

One tip for people would be parking, the hotel charges $55 a night which is really pricy in our opinion- all they do is part it in the LAZ lot opposite. We booked in advance at a lot up the street 2 blocks (there are stacks around) with PremiumParking for $20 a night with in/out privileges.

Overall the hotel was pretty expensive for the experience and we were disappointed.

Overall it was a decent stay, but housekeeping needs to pay more attention to detail as I had to wipe out the dusty drawers prior to putting my clothes in them. There was also a small tag or piece of paper under the bench seat at the foot of the bed, and lastly there was a hair strand on the toilet hair.

I informed the guy at the front desk that I don't want anyone to get in trouble over it, but they definitely need to pay attention to details.

Also the hotel should advise customers of the $15 daily amenity fee when we check in.
Everything is overpriced, so just on principle they shouldn't charge extra. One slice of cheesecake was $15.

The room was cute.

A little disappointed. I expected a lot more than I got. The shower was funky, you have a walk-in with no door to close, so you step in to turn it on, so of course you got soaked with cold water, the next thing I noticed, not very clean, mold along the bottom of the glass and I don't know what that stuff was in the grout, they could use some bleach. There was toothpaste spots in the mirror and dust along the back splash. The towel hook was coming off the wall, the toilet paper holder kept sliding off the wall. Carpet could use a cleaning.
They leave their brand of special water in the room, they claim it was free.. lol but they changed us an amenity fee of which we had no idea about prior to booking and claim the water was part of the amenity fees... That was very expensive, flat mineral water. There wasn't even an iron or microwave in the room.
The restaurant: I got the Mediterranean Salad.. $15. I'm not joking when I say it was mostly lettuce! Yes it had some red onion, a couple slices of cucumber and 3 olives, maybe a teaspoon worth of cheese, and 4 small tomatoes. I mean come on, would it kill you to throw some veggies in there, it really wasn't worth it. I get more veggies in a store bought premade salad, which would cost me $5. Don't even get me started with the homeless outside. Really was a very average place at best.

The Staff was very attentive, even had a direkt messaging system as an option.
The rpom always spotless. The cleaning lady even put a rose in my room, that was nice lovely touch. The internet worked really well. The room has all the amenities you need, including a mini fridge, water, a steamer, hair dryer, big shampoo, conditionar and gel in the shower, something to put you luggage on, ample closet space and clothes hangers. The room and bathroom are big and new. The lighting was a bit scarce, hard to make it bright enough at night to get ready (the bathroom had good lighting though). During the day there is much light from the big windows. I was in a 6th floor and its wasnt very quiet... With closed windows you could hear the ventilation system from the whole building just below the window a few floors lower. It was even louder when the window was opem. I managed to sleep alright with a closed window though, since it was sort of a white background noise, similar to a fan running all night inside my room.
The breakfast very good, lots of yummy options. No hot chocolate but loads of tea options, coffee and orange juice. The breakfast serving took 50 minutes one day, some other days i had it served within 5-10 minutes... So a bit of a disparity there. The waiters were very forthcoming and apologetic though, so they made up for it.

I enjoyed my stay. The only cons were the cleaning staff isn't thoroughly cleaning the room and bathroom area. I experienced having hair on 2 pillows and in the bed under the covers. There was a stain on the bathroom countertop where an item had been left that made a ring on the tile (it wasn't permanent) it just needed to be cleaned. The sink faucet which is stainless steel had spots on it (again, this needed attention). The TV remote was sat completely over a stain (not permanent) that needed to be cleaned along with the dusty nightstand. Hotel food choices aren't a whole lot. The carpet could use a shampoo. The pros: Nice view of downtown and walking distance to eateries and bars.

I’ll keep it short. I’ve worked in hotels and I recognize excellent service run by an organized team. First of all, Danny @ check in was able to check me in early and empathized with a personal situation I was in & upgraded my room. Jacob behind the bar was friendly, knowledgeable, interesting, gave excellent recommendations, and he offered to reheat a cappuccino order after returning back downstairs despite my needing to run back up to my room. Marcus at the front desk listened to all of my comments and thoroughly answered my questions, which I appreciated very much. Didn’t make me feel like a bother. And Kirk (I think?) sat us at the cafe 5 minutes before closing without making me feel like I was an inconvenience. He efficiently and professionally managed the bar/barista and busser role with a smile. He heard me mention I needed our room cleaned and proactively went to the front desk to ask them before we could even ask ourselves. Ok I lied this comment wasn’t short but worth every character. I’m not sure why this place isn’t busier, it should be at the top of everyone’s list. Kudos to the staff and leadership for investing in such wonderful stuff and paying close attention to the importance and details involved in successfully operating an experience like this.

I previously stayed at this hotel when it was the Palomar and had an amazing birthday weekend, 5 star experience. Fast forward to 2024 birthday weekend and if it wasn’t for my friends it wouldn’t have felt special. We arrived late, tired from a 4 hour drive and were welcomed with the hotel was sold out and my room was on a low floor. They forgot to mention that it was on a corner next to a closet, with a window facing other buildings and the worst room lighting I seen in a hotel room. It was dark, if I didn’t open the windows, which then made the room less private cause it looks right at another hotel room I would be walking in the dark. Even when I turned all the lights, which there was only three dim ceiling lights other than the bathroom.

Also as far as acknowledging my birthday which I noted and told the front desk when they asked why we were visiting I received no acknowledgment. During my last visit I was upgraded to a sky loft suite, a bottle of wine and cookies were waiting for me in the room when I arrived. This time, nothing. I made the most of the stay but if you get assigned room 615 please request a new room you will thank me later other than a central location just a 2min walk to the heart of the gaslamp this hotel now a days offers little. I will try a new hotel during my next visit to SD.
