Stayed here on Sunday night.

Check in is at 4pm. The front desk was very friendly and informative. The vibe upon walking in is almost like a 70's time capsule remodeled. We were given the option of an upstairs or downstairs room which was nice.

The room was a good size. It was bright and the color scheme was nice. There was a bar area with a fridge and microwave, which was a big factor is choosing this hotel. The bed could have been more comfortable. The front desk was able to accommodate us with a later check out time. This place definitely has good customer service.

The grounds were very nice. They have a concert venue, a big pool, lots of greenery and a beautiful view of the San Diego skyline. Another added bonus is they have laundry onsite if needed and I know they offer rooms with kitchens. There are also concert packages available that are held on the grounds which is unique.

They have a restaurant on site. One side has tvs and a more casual atmosphere and the other is more formal.

We would stay here again and I would recommend this hotel to others. I subtracted a star for the excessive parking fee and the beds needing to be upgraded.

My husband and I spent three nights at Humphrey's in mid September, and enjoyed it so much we returned for three more nights after a 10 day vacation in Newport Coast/Balboa lsland area. We love that it is truly laid back, and relaxing. Although the restaurant is closed we enjoyed limited beakfast service out doors with sail boats as the back drop. We walked to several nearby restaurants on Shelter Island. Our three year old grand daughter who lives near by spent some time with us and she especially loves the grounds with the tropical foliage, butterflies, parrots, turtles, and ducks. On the last night of our visit we sat around one of several fire pits and had a pizza party. The staff is complying with COVID restictions, and they made new policies easy. With a quick phone call they delivered fresh linens, coffee and bathroom supplies. We also appreciate that the resort fee and parking fees are reasonable compared to so many resorts in San Diego. Hoping to return in December.

We try to stay at this property every time we come to San Diego. We love this place!!!!
The hotel is off the beaten path of downtown and Mission Beach, yet still close to everything. The property is very peaceful and being on the edge of the peninsula makes its location ideal.
We stayed for a week in the Grand Marina Suite, which gave us plenty of space for our family of 4. We enjoyed the facilities at the hotel daily and the staff was always very helpful and happy.
If there is a downfall to the hotel, it is the "extra" price for parking, because for our family, once we were at the hotel, there was really no other place that we needed to drive to. We walked everywhere and kept this stay very local.

Nice pool, nice food, nice drinks, and relaxing.
During this time of uncertainty due to the pandemic, this getaway was well worth it.

We were able to get away from the madness and smile a little.
I only wish that we could have stayed another week!!!!
Every morning, we took a walk along the peninsula to return to warm coffee and hot chocolate overlooking the marina. Amazing views

I was very excited to stay at this hotel due to it's location as well as the previous reviews. I was very disappointed. Upon arrival to our room, they were cleaning the nearby rooms so there was a food tray, empty pitcher, a glass full of milk, and a second pitcher left out on the landing outside our door. While not the nicest view you want to see upon arrival I assumed that they would be cleaned up when the cleaning people left. Unfortunately they were left there overnight and were not removed until the next day. The room itself was also dirty, we found hair on the shower wall, splattered grime on the mirror and doors, leftover food on the microwave, excessive dust on the tv & dresser, stains on the chairs, and someone else's shoes under the bed. Normally I don't have the cleaning people come in every day since it is not needed but I had them come in the next day to clean, everything that was dirty stayed that way. Another annoying thing was whoever cleaned the room prior to our arrival shut the plunger in the sink so when you washed your hand the water stayed in the bowl. It was an easy fix but gross to have to stick your hand in dirty water as we realize we had to check to make sure the sink was draining normally before using.
In addition, the hot tub & putting green were both closed during our stay and the closest ice machine & pop machine to our room didn't work and had a sign posted on then to go to a different machine. This was especially frustrating since you are charged a daily resort fee. Overall I would say that while this used to be a nice hotel it isn't being taken care of very well. I did like the location but that was about it. I would not stay here again due to the level of dirtiness.

Remember it’s an Inn and not necessarily a resort. Because of covid all amenities were closed (expect the pool) so you still pay the same resort fee and don’t get much. It’d be nice to have a reduced resort fee... Pool is open until 11pm with loud music so our upgraded tropical room (we paid to have a pretty view) ended up being a view of the pool with music until late when we had to sleep early for an early morning start the next day. It’s winter and the pool was empty but the music is really necessary until 11pm to give my “tropical” vibe in my tropical room. Our room was dark and small, bathroom was very small.

My family and I had a surprisingly terrible stay at Humphreys in late July. Not sure if things have changed but I was so shocked.

At check-in, they only had one person helping guests so the line was super long and it took us over an hour to get checked in to our room (with two toddlers to take care of in the meantime).

Upon entering our room, there was an overpowering musty, moldy smell that lingering throughout our entire trip.

That first night, I tried giving my kids a bath but there was no water stopper in bathtub. I tried calling down to front desk for help and no one answered. Finally reached someone (my daughter was playing with the phone I guess and had repeatedly called the front desk), they said there should be a stopper in the bathtub and I told them I don't see anything. They said they would bring one over and never did.

The next morning, the alarm on the clock went off at 5:50 am and woke me up for no reason after a late night taking care of my kids. I stopped by the front desk to ask about the bathtub stopper, they said they would send someone to fix it. We left for the day to go exploring and when we got back, there was still no stopper in the bathtub. I called down to the front desk again. They finally sent someone the next morning (we were going to check out the following day) and the handy man said "hmm there really isn't a stopper here" *face palm*.

I'm giving this hotel two stars because of the outside area. My kids and I really enjoyed the parrots, water falls, pool and fire pits. That being said, we won't stay here again and wouldn't recommend it to other families.

Beautiful location, however I am not able to leave a positive review due to inappropriate and ill-responsive safety and comfort concerns. During a visit with my daughter and 5 year old grandchild; a wedding party took place. The guest included within this wedding party exhibited behaviors including severe intoxication, physical fighting, screaming, yelling, slamming and banging doors, vomiting in public areas, verbal abuse towards other guest, among other inappropriate behaviors. All this behavior was witnessed and heard by the hotel staff & staff were made aware by many guests of these concerns. I was told by hotel staff : “we can’t control other people’s behaviors”. These behaviors began early in the day and continued until the wee hours of the morning about 330am with absolutely no repercussions by staff. After one incident of one of these guest screaming obscenities and verbally threatening my daughter by yelling into our window ( which was all heard by staff when I called guest services on the phone) absolutely nothing was done. I asked to have our room changed as the intoxicated guest were located in multiple rooms directed next to and under my assigned room, as I was very concerned for my families safety. My very appropriate request went unanswered by the hotel staff. I physically left with my family at 400am, awaiting for this party to move away from our area, to avoid any further confrontation with this party and did not return to the hotel until about 3pm. I again discussed my concerns with the front manager, whom immediately asked me ( in a gaslighting tone) why I didn’t answer my room phone when they called the day after the incident. She actually said this multiple times. Wow, what an inappropriate response

There is no maid service ( we were told that on arrival)
You have to call ( some days multiple calls had to be made) and ask for linen, trash dumping, toilet paper, etc. ( no anticipation of guest needs, despite having to pay a daily mandatory resort fee.)

On a positive note the grounds appear well maintained

This is not a cheap place but the money goes towards maintaining the wonderful rooms with wooden ceilings and sliding patio shutters, decent beds, lots of cubbies for all your stuff, mini fridge and microwave, good toiletries, and such beautiful grounds. It is like being in Hawaii with palm trees, waterfalls, fire pit terrace, great pool that is well heated, hot tub, koi ponds, two parrots who live on site, and a very safe area on Shelter Island in Point Loma.
They do not do any housekeeping until you check out, but you can call any time for things you need. They could use some of those half trash, half recycling receptacles.

Trouble getting the correct room when I booked through the central reservations system, so recommend calling Humphrey's directly to book. There is also a reduced rate for locals, which we had not known about (in winter, at least).

Fabulous 2nd floor balcony suite on the marina #416 close to pool, jacuzzi with awesome views. We had no desire to "do" anything, but relax so all was perfect. No cafe or restaurant open now due to the pandemic, so we brought our food and were delighted with our privacy and quiet. We could easily have gotten take-out in the area in walking distance or driven close by for even greater variety.

First great staff and beautiful grounds.
Came during construction on parking lot which wasn't that big of a deal. Landscaped grounds are beautifully maintained. Pool and sauna clean and area maintained. Poolside bar was great.

All employees very nice and helpful. Check in was easy and guest service professional and nice.
Lobby has atm, beverages and snacks to purchase.

Room was not great. Hotel stay expensive so should be great for the price paid. Lighting dim and no option to be brighter except day with window shutters open. I believe they are lacking in updating certain worn out aspects of the room and maintenance issues.

The carpet is old and stained and gives a dingy smell to the air. The two sitting chairs were stained and the throw pillows on bed were smelly. Worst part was the A/C did not work. Fan ran but no cool air. Like a swamp.

The bathroom has enamel peeling from the bath tub, the shower tile grout has stains and cracks. The toilet was the biggest nuisance because it teeter tottered every time you sat on it and that's not fun early in the morning to feel your seat move down and hear a loud clunk when you sit for a wee.

We used the iron and instantly it left black streaks on a white shirt for a wedding groomsman. Stain didn't come out. Upon investigation, we found there was rust inside the iron and it was dropping out of the holes.

Besides that, the bedsheets and pillows smelled cleaned amd looked fresh. The bed was comfortable enough. Not pillow top and not plywood. I could feel mattress springs in some spots. The room was dusted and bathroom looked clean.

Upon checking out, we told guest service about the iron, toilet and AC and they comped us the daily hotel fee which is roughly $17 a day. It would have be nice to get a better comp.
I do appreciate the professional and kind helpful customer service there.
