Nestled in a prime spot, the InterContinental San Diego garners accolades for its strategic location, offering easy access to nearby attractions and breathtaking views that appeal to both vacationers and business guests. The rooms are celebrated for their tidiness and comfort, although the occasional room service hiccup is noted. While some guests find the hotel's rates and additional charges steep, the warm ambiance, luxurious amenities, and impeccable service provided by the attentive staff are consistently praised. However, the presence of noisy music has received mixed reactions.

I’m a San Diego local and this hotel has always caught my attention because it is beautifully designed and located in the heart of the waterfront marina. I decided to do a “local” getaway with my husband this weekend and chose this hotel primarily for its aesthetics and location. From my first phone call to the hotel to our last moment of check out, the customer service I experienced was amazing and exceeded my expectations. A complimentary upgrade to a room with a view, breakfast on the house due to a booking mix up, to a late check out without any additional fees...who can ask for more? The hotel room had an amazing view, the bed was comfortable and the room was a decent size filled with a stocked up refrigerator with beverages to purchase. The hotel is located on the harbor in beautiful San Diego and could not be in a better location. The pool overlooks the harbor with a combination of city views. Despite the covid 19 restrictions, the hotel did their best to keep the hotel amenities open for use while keeping the hotel clean along with adhering to the safety guidelines. Team members were helpful and courteous which made our stay enjoyable, we will definitely come back to this hotel.

My girlfriend and I stayed here a couple of weeks ago and were blown away by our experience. Superb guest service with friendly and welcoming staff. I have to give a huge shout out to Jesse, who really went the extra mile to welcome us and make our stay special. The room was beautiful with a great view looking out into the ocean and the hotel outdoor bar area was socially-distanced and actively cleaned while we were enjoying our cocktails on the patio deck. Great location with a number of cafes and restaurants within walking distance and so close to the walking path along the water that we spent a couple hours walking the length of it in the morning. We loved our stay and can't wait to be back again soon.

We typically visit San Diego at least 2 times per year to visit family so we've had the opportunity to stay in a number of hotels. Usually we stay across from the Intercontinental and love it but thought we'd give the intercontinental a try.

We arrived early and the front desk attendant was very friendly and accommodating. Since our room was not ready she held our bags until it was ready. She gave us a nice room, looking at the water. Sadly on the night table there were toe nail clippings which then spilled over onto the floor. It was grotesque. I called the front desk who then asked me to take a picture and come back downstairs. I politely declined and asked for them to come up to inspect their own housekeeping standards. Promptly a housekeeping attendant was there, she vacuumed the clippings and cleaned the night table. The manager followed after she left. He was very apologetic and assured us house keeping would be exceptional.

We found the hotel in good shape, comfortable, and perfectly located. It has good amenities. A beautiful pool that we did not use because it was too cold, Wifi which we also did not use because we had our own internet. We did go to the gym which was well equipped. On 2 of the 6 days, it had a bowl of fruit. Sadly that was not consistent.

We had breakfast on the patio. The morning hostesses are delightful. The servers in the morning were terrific. The food was tasty and seating on the patio was a treat.
By contrast, the evening hostesses were curt and unpleasant. The service was poor Once could see the server chatting in the kitchen while we waited to put in our order. The breakfast and lunch food was tasty. Hot foods were hot and cold foods were cold as they were supposed to be. The opposite was the case for dinner.

We would stay here again as there were more positives than negatives. Especially the very nice front desk manager. If anything during your stay would go astray, he would rectify it. We hope to be back this summer.

We sincerely apologize for the negative experience you had regarding the bed side table, as well as being asked to come down to the desk. My family decided to book a stay at the Intercontinental San Diego to get away from home! I booked the entire stay on points and anniversary rewards. I'm a IHG Platinum Ambassador so I'm able to enjoy few more perks during this stay. I booked a city view 2 aueens room and I was upgraded to premium water view 2 queen room. My room had a great view of the USS Midway and Coronado Bridge as well. I wanted to upgrade to Club Lounge access but it was closed due to the Covid 19. I also wanted to upgrade to the corner suite but we couldn't agree to the price so I declined. There were hardly any people at the hotel because the hotel just had opened from the long closure.

I'm about the share the changes that hotel has made and also what we all might experience due to Covid 19. First, there were signs everywhere reminding to practice social distancing. Next, I noticed sanitizer dispenser located throughout the hotel. All the employees wore facial masks but I did encounter two incidents where the maintenance and one employee did not wear facial masks. Both employees knocked on my door and asked me why I haven't checked out. I reminded them that I had a 4 pm check out due to my status.

Far as the room, due to the Covid 19, I did not receive my ambassador amenities. Furthermore, there wasn't any slippers, robe, nor any dental kit in the bathroom. Housekeeping was not available until after your departure unless you requested one. I called the front desk to have them at least empty out trash can and replace the used glasses, refill the coffee bar, and they responded accordingly. I understand why certain amenities weren't available due to the Covid 19 but why did they still offer room service when they couldn't even offer my ambassador welcome amenities?

Lastly, the restaurants also had limited menu and services. Only the Vistal restaurant was opened for dining. The menu was understandably underwhelming. We really enjoyed the pizza and will come back because of it. There were many restaurants nearby within walking distance. The hotel waived amenities fee and reduced the self-parking fee to just $20 per night. Valet parking was cancelled.

Overall, we had a great stay. Kids enjoyed the pool and we loved to just lounge around the pool and enjoy the scenery. Octavio at the Layover bar provided excellent service. Kids loved the food from Vistal while we were at the pool.

We will be back in late July and we look forward to having a great time once again.

Thank you John K. for taking the time to write a detailed review regarding your recent stay. Yes we have had to re-engineer our operations based on new guidelines provided by the state and county authorities. We are living through unprecedented times and we continue to adapt to ensure a safe environment for our guest and employees. Actually the Intercontinental San Diego never closed as we provided accommodations to essential workers, first responders, stranded passengers who couldn't fly back to their home county and other guest who needed a place to stay. We look forward to welcoming you back in July and hopefully you can try our new Speakeasy Style Italian Bar & Restaurant, Garibaldi. Thank you again for supporting our hotel, Chuck

We loved our stay at the Intercontinental San Diego hotel because of the hospitality! Everyone was super sweet especially George from the Layover pool bar. He memorized my order every time I stoped by to order at the bar. As a person with a culinary background the clam chowder soup was amazing and worth every dollar. The amenities were amazing and the hotel staff were very safe. They had their masks on the entire time and gave us hand sanitizer spray pens at check in. Me and my mother travel very frequently and stay at a lot of hotels. This hotel definitely stood out to us and has made it on our favorites list. We will be back soon! Thank you.

Kindest regards,
Olivia Laura

We took a road trip vacation to San Diego and stayed at the InterContinental San Diego. The hotel is at a fantastic waterfront location. There was so much to do just steps away and still socially distance while walkable to some of the best outdoor restaurants in downtown San Diego and the city's landmarks.

We were pleasantly surprised to see how every hotel restaurant had a large outdoor dining area, including the club lounge. The Starbucks located from the exterior of the hotel is convenient. It was a great place to people watch or dog watch either from your room or picnicking on the lawn in Lane Field Park (hotel's front lawn) where each Sunday you can enjoy creative food/drinks, live music and art in a relaxed farmer's market atmosphere.

Most importantly, the hotel and it's staff were following strict procedures to socially distance and executed enhanced methods to disinfect, like self disinfecting elevator buttons and no touch sanitizers everywhere!

Great place to spend a weekend away or longer in beautiful San Diego.

InterContinental San Diego (ICSD) property is located in a great area. Across the street from the bay and walking distance to Gaslamp and Little Italy. Tons of restaurants close by and easy to get to. Inexpensive self parking beneath the hotel was a big plus.

The staff is fantastic. They are 100% dialed in to the Covid crisis and made me feel safe with the precautions they have put in place. They are kind and friendly people and it was a pleasure staying with them.

The room was clean, fresh and comfortable. Bed, sheets and pillows were the best ! I splurged and was given a view with 3 sides facing the bay. I passed on having daily housekeeping (Covid) and it was easy to get anything I needed from housekeepers on the floor or by phone.

On property restaurants were great and the Club InterContinental made getting a soda or bag of chips a delight.

We loved our stay at the InterContinental in San Diego. The building itself is very modern, sleek, and very clean. From the lobby area to the restaurants and bars, pool deck, and rooms, everything was spotless. The staff was very attentive and friendly. And the location and views of the hotel can't be beaten. Located about 200 feet from the San Diego Bay, the rooms and the pool deck offer amazing views. When we stayed, the hotel tower did block the pool from the sun for the first half of the day before providing direct sunlight to the pool for the second half of the day that led up to a beautiful sunset. The pool didn't seem to be heated but it wasn't cold either. Very refreshing to jump into. We did enjoy several drinks from the bar as well as a few meals. The bartenders were friendly and offered to craft us some cocktails after they inquired about our favorite booze, flavors, etc. All the food was good but my favorite was the Wagyu Beef Burger & Fries. It was listed at a very affordable price so I was hesitant at first but am so glad I ordered it as the meat was very juicy and flavorful. Enjoyed it so much that we ordered a second round of it. The hotel is within walking distance to many bars and restaurants, the Midway Aircraft Museum, Petco Park, and the boardwalk that wraps around the bay where you can walk, run, bike, skate, etc. All in all, we loved our stay and hope to be back again soon!

My wife and I stayed there last week for 5 days. We were on the 17th floor with a NW view of the bay and airport. The hotel looks new and well maintained. Everyone is very friendly and offers their help. The room was quite. They even had Purell dispensers at the elevators (quite important these days with a sanitizer shortage).
The hotel is a short walk from Little Italy (good food) and walks along the bay. We had the breakfast buffet, which we enjoyed, and want to thank our server Diego. We will be back.

Very clean and safe on my last visit (5/27/23). Generally there has been a small but noticeable homeless problem but the city seems to have clean it up. If you go on the weekend there are many vendors out in front of the hotel on the lawn so you can try many different delicacies as well as purchase unique crafts. It is across the street from the pier which you can purchase tickets for various boat rides and even dinner on a boat. Thers also USS Midway permanently docked there and is now a museum.
