Over the Christmas weekend My flight was cancelled due to the winter weather that effected thousands of flights across the U.S. Through the booking agents and the kind understanding employees at the Sofia. I was given a full refund though it was in the nonrefundable time period. If and when I should need to stay in San Diego again I will be contacting the Sofia.
Great area for walking with lots of transportation and restaurant choices, friendly staff, and very comfortable rooms. The suite design had a clever use of space and was very reasonably priced. I appreciated the newspapers, too.
The toilet was blocked multiple times during the stay with only one person staying in the room. I was given a dirty plunger to fix the problem and needed to use it multiple times in the course of 2 days. The shelves were dusty when I arrived and the fridge didn’t work. The room was so small, the toilet (with problems) was 4 feet from the bed. The sink was in the guest room. I booked a room with 2 double beds and was given the smallest room I’ve ever seen with only one queen bed. The toiletries are of very poor quality, the tile work was sloppy and poorly finished in the shower stall and there was only one fixture with the rain style which I don’t like. It’s a more unusual style and I’ve only seen it used before with other options.
We really liked this vintage hotel. We stayed in a suite on the 7th floor and really loved the layout. I was there for a work conference and my husband came along. The location of the hotel is really great and right next to several eateries and a quick Uber ride to Little Italy. We had a small issue when we arrived with the tv remotes not working. I called the front desk and they were very polite and maintenance was there quickly. Every time I entered the lobby I was greeted. Great service all around. Also, the beautiful Christmas tree in the lobby and the Christmas music playing set a nice vibe. I would recommend and also return in the future. (we did not explore any of the other floors or amenities such as the gym or spa)
Was surprised during check in to discover an additional $21 a night resort fee to cover the gym and wi-fi plus $40 a night to park my car. Parking I understand but charging for wi-fi is pretty unacceptable.
My wife and I visited early December and the entire stay was just okay for a number of reasons. Only one elevator was working which made for long wait times or a long walk up. The restaurant attached was closed for business. There was a lot of construction going on that also utilized the single elevator. The staff was nice and our room was cleaned when we were gone. The parking price of $40 a night is outrageous. Little Italy is about 3/4 of a mile walking and the ferry to Coronado island or USS Midway about 1/2 miles walking. For roughly $150 a night the entire stay was just okay
I stayed at the hotel for a business trip along with 7 of my team members. We paid for 8 rooms for 3-5 nights per person. I would absolutely not stay at this hotel again because of one the front desk receptionists, I believe her name was Kiara or Kiana. She was incredibly rude to my team. She had a snooty attitude and made it seem like any simple request would be like moving mountains for her. She shouldn't be interacting with guests on any level. My only memory of this hotel will be of her bad attitude when interacting with hotel guests.
Sofia stuffs are friendly. The hotel is located in the downtown San Diego, a nice location, easy to get around any restaurants, food market, and it is about 10 min walking to convention center. The room is clean, and provides excellent value compared to other hotels nearby.
Awesome quaint hotel in the heart of the Gas lamp district. The hotel was clean and quiet. It would have been nice to have a bar in the lobby but otherwise a great hotel. One of the great things was the purified water available on each floor.
This hotel is within walking distance of everything…the theater, Gaslamp District, Seaport Village, etc. The hotel staff is very sweet, the rooms cute and clean, but bedding was VERY uncomfortable. Lumpy pillows, thin comforters, etc.
