While the Wyndham San Diego Bayside hotel is often lauded for its prime location near attractions and the cruise terminal, guests have called out its outdated rooms and the need for maintenance. Opinions on service vary widely, with some finding it exceptionally accommodating, while others describe it as disorganized. The hotel's atmosphere is generally seen as comfortable with clean rooms and a charming glass elevator, but high parking fees and additional charges have led to criticism regarding value. Furthermore, noise from nearby traffic and the airport is a common concern among reviewers.

When we checked in we agreed to a $40 per night upgrade to a higher room overlooking the bay for our 3-night stay. We felt like it was a good choice because the room was nice and the view was was really good. The hotel is also in a nice location and within walking distance of Little Italy for evening dinner. However, the next morning we got up and were gone until 3:00. Our room was not serviced so as we were again leaving the hotel we told the woman at the desk and she said she would see to it that the room was cleaned. We got back an hour and a half later and nothing had been done. One of the housekeeping staff was in the hallway so we told her about our room and she assured us it would be cleaned. We left about 4:30 and returned at 8:30. Our room had still not been serviced. This time I called the front desk and they sent someone up to do a quick straightening of the room. The next morning when we went out for breakfast the woman at the front desk was the same woman who had checked us in and sold us the upgrade. I told her what had happened. Through all of this I only ever got a very quick "Sorry this happened" from anyone I spoke with. There was evidently no thought of any real apology or a small reduction in price. I know these things happen but for it to take 3 separate conversations to get anything done and then no real apology seems extreme. I will think twice about going back there the next time I'm in San Diego.

You are definitely paying for the location here. This facility is one of the oldest in the area and is definitely showing its age. It could use a good, deep renovation. We stayed in Tower 3. The carpet at the exterior door is held down with duct tape. These exterior "security" doors don't close all the way, so they definitely don't lock. Fortunately, you need a key card to get the elevator to go to the guest rooms, so that was a plus. There is a very large homeless population in this area. It wasn't uncommon to find someone sleeping/living in one of the columns right at the door to the tower. The pool is small but refreshing, and its gate also doesn't lock, which allowed random people to "sneak in." (They weren't very sneaky) The "pool towels" are just a bit larger than a hand towel and they run out quickly. Due to the homeless population, the main building closes and locks the bathrooms, and the coffee cart has unreliable hours so we didn't go to the main building much. The rooms are on the small side and have not been updated in quite some time. The bathroom ceiling was waterlogged and peeling around the edges and about 5-8 inches into the room. The mirror was also peeling and rusting around the edges. None of the lamps or outlets have USB charging ports so make sure to bring your own power cube, preferably one that has multiple USB ports as many outlets are too old and loose to hold a plug. The balconies have a wonderful view, but they are connected directly to the balcony of the rooms next door...very close and not sure secure (bolt your door just to be on the safe side).

On the other hand, the staff here is amazing!!! I can tolerate a great deal if the people are kind and friendly and everyone we met here was just that. We took advantage of their luggage check service to secure our bags so we could explore before our room was ready. As soon as our room was ready (a little bit before the published check-in time) we received a call inviting us to come directly to the desk to complete our check-in and get our key cards. We knew that housekeeping is by special request at this time, and we did ask for some fresh towels and for the trash to be emptied one day. We ended up with completely fresh beds, towels, empty trash, new toiletries, etc. It was a pleasant treat with everything being shut down and limited. We did have a problem with our a/c unit and one call to the front desk and someone came right up and got it fixed. After Wyndham upgrades this property I hope they continue to have great customer service.

The location is the big draw here. The view from the bay view rooms is spectacular. The USS Midway is just minutes away, as is the ferry, many harbor tours, etc. It is a very active, lively area with great restaurants and activities. We did have some difficulties getting an Uber and one of the drivers said they don't like to go down to this part of town but didn't elaborate. Electric scooters are everywhere and very easy to use.

I decided to book this hotel for my first week back to San Diego, where I grew up, after a year and a half of the pandemic and the first week of my new job. I really wanted to experience a nice view of the bay and live in the city. The first night they "upgraded" me to a room with an amazing view but with only a pull out king bed that was very uncomfortable and the room was missing all of it's bedding and toiletries which I had to call and ask for. Luckily they gave me a $50 credit for "upgrading" and I was able to change rooms the next day to a real king bed and another great view since it was just a floor down. The normal beds aren't that comfortable though. They feel like old spring beds with very little cushion. Unluckily for me the Claim Jumper restaurant didn't let me charge my meals to my room to use my credit so I used it at the coffee cart and gift shop. The wifi did cut out a few times each day on my zooms calls but quickly refreshed. The shower warmed quickly and had great water pressure. The desk and chairs were comfortable and convenient for me working remotely. The noise was pretty high every night that I wore earplugs. The first night there was a dog barking in the next room and the other nights were little kids playing and screaming. The downstairs coffee cart was closed for half of my stay but the nearby cafes and restaurants were good! Unfortunately they don't provide microwaves which to me is absurd and their mini fridges were basically freezers because my leftovers were icy. It's $10 per day to rent a microwave which I think is dumb. The gym and heated pool is amazing! The area is nice and safe and walkable to great attractions and parks. And the view was worth it for me! Beautiful in the day and at night with the ships and boats lit up. I might be back someday if I can get a more comfortable bed!

We checked in to a room with a tub full of water and a broken A/C. Front desk changed our room to yet another tub full of disgusting water. This time they sent a maintenance man to tell us that the hotel runs the water to ensure proper flow when no one is occupying the room. I asked how long the water had been sitting in the tub and the maintenance man said, “ you’ll have to ask the manager.”
The third room was two towers away. This room was above the pool which meant loud commotion to all hours of the night. Every time the A/C kicked on throughout the night, it would make a loud banging noise which kept me up all night.
The elevator was a wreck with spilled drinks and beer bottles all over the floor.
Wyndham means prestige and elegance but this hotel is an absolute nightmare. We will NEVER stay here again.

We checked in July 4th had to pay 359.00 for that particular night checked in around 11pm, the clerk set us up, never mentioned cost of parking nor did they mention that housekeeping was only going to be done every 3 days. we stayed 4 nights with my 3 kids including an infant. I had to call the front desk 8 times to get more towels literally every morning and it took over an hour to get anything up to our room. We were in a non smoking room or so we thought the hallway had a horrible stench of weed every afternoon. We were told that they were not aware that it was a problem at the front desk. We opened up our balcony to view of the parking lot behind tower 3 and the stench was even worse with marijuana we had to close it. We ended up putting a towel in the door gap to make sure our kids were not exposed. Don't stay if you are with kids even though the location was easy to get to I will never stay here again nor will i recommend it.

We had been in the area on business and had been staying at a different hotel but after our business was over we decided to move to the waterfront area and enjoy a few personal days before heading home. We made reservations at the Wyndham hotel just minutes before our arrival. We told the check in agent what exactly we wanted for a room and he was able to upgrade us for a pretty small extra fee to a high floor, balcony bay view room. The room was very clean and the bed comfortable. We called to ask for a few extra pillow and towels and housekeeping came to deliver within minutes. It was quite chilly so we did not use the pool but it looked very nice and if it had been warmer would have used it. The staff was very friendly but we did feel a little pressure to participate in a free breakfast or lunch in order for them to try to sell us a vacation plan. We did not want it and did not go. The location is great with several restaurants on site or near by. The Claim Juniper at the hotel had good service and good food. We enjoyed sitting at the outside tables at the brewery on site and they also had good breakfast, lunch and dinner items. Ruth and Chris steakhouse is also at the hotel and service and food there was great! We would recommend this hotel and will return when we are in the San Diego area again.

Pros:
1. location location location. It is close to the boat terminals, great view of the bay, close to the airport.
2. The staff was very friendly and helpful
3. The beds were very comfy
4. Fridge in the room

Cons:
1. No jacuzzi, pool only
2. No room service. Can order from Hazelwoods Bayside deli, for a small fee they will deliver to the front desk... but way overpriced and food not great.
3. Watch your bill. Each room comes with 2 bottle of water. They automatically charge you $7 per bottle, assuming you will use it. We had our own so didn't touch the water and had to ask the $14 be removed from our bill. Our friends who also stayed didn't realize they were charged for the water (they didn't use) until after they already left.
4. The 1st room we had, we found long black hair in the made bed, on the pillows and sheets... before we even got in bed ( and neither of us have that color hair). We tried to call to ask for new bedding, but found out the phone didn't work. So we went down and they moved us to another room. That room was fine the 1st two nights. Then after a long day and get back to the room we kept hearing water dripping. We checked the sink and shower, nothing. Finally we see it is coming from the ceiling, running down the wall, and the carpet was soaked. We called, maintenance came and said it was coming from the room above us, and they would fix it after everyone checked out... um a little late!
5. Lots of plane noise, especially if balcony door open at all.
6. No microwave
7. Parking is $35 a night, and very small tight spots. Tight even for a regular size car, but if you drive a truck or SUV, plan on taking up more than one spot. Your vehicle will fit, but if anyone parks next to you, you will not be able to open your doors.
8. Not all bay rooms have an actual balcony. We had one, our friends paid the same and got the same type of room and had a balcony about 10 inches wide and that was it.

This is not a particularly nice hotel. The lobby has been updated at some point but the rooms are pretty tired. Worse, they are loud because the windows are old and single paned. You can hear all the street noise, the kids at the pool or the park, and anyone having a chat on their balcony. The internet is horrible. It is capped at 3 mbps which is great for checking email or a quick google search, but don't expect to stream video with it (unless you want to pay for the "fast" internet which is 10 mbps. I get about 300 mbps at home.) If you have one of the rooms that front the street, you'll have a lovely view of the bay, but you'll pay for it with road noise. I've stayed here several times (employer books the room) and have had a view of a wall, a roof, air conditioner equipment, and today, I'm looking at a hallway that leads to the stairs. On the other hand, the location is great. You are an easy walk from downtown, "little Italy", and Seaport villiage is also very close.

Stayed from 4/1/2021 to 4/4/2021. This hotel has the most ridiculous policy to lock up its lobby restrooms even past 8:00 am. My wife has health issues which requires her to frequently use room bathroom and I normally go to lobby bathroom to answer my nature call. On 4/2/2021 one of the staff opened the restroom for me after it was still closed at 8:30 am. On 4/4/2021 8:20 am, I found the lobby restroom locked again and asked the girl, who was the sole assistant at front desk to kindly arranged it to be opened, and she refused point blankly in most obnoxious and rude manner. It was an attitude i would associate with bossy government officers and not with star hotel where I am paying $ 200 ( including parking charges ). Whatever the advantages this hotel might offer was totally negated and it really spoiled my stay. For gods sake ! Instal a card key access lock if homeless intrusion is your worry! Even downtown New York hotels doesn’t lock its lobby restrooms to its customers ! And train your staff to deal with guest in courteous manner and respect. Not like they are doing favour to us !

First off, they hotel is in a great location. Right in the San Diego Bay. If you are lucky enough to get a room with a view, you look right out at the water. We were within walking distance to the Gaslamp Quarters and Little Italy. We could walk to the Midway Museum. I definitely liked the location.

We did run into an issue with not having hot water. I called for maintenance and they came up to look at it. It did not fix the issue. We had to leave for the day for an excursion and when getting back we still didn’t have hot water. I went to the front desk and they moved us to a different room/different building so the problem wouldn’t happen again. After the move, we didn’t have the problem any longer.

For what we paid, I don’t think the hotel was worth it. It was outdated. Wyndham makes alllll the money, so I feel they could provide better accommodations for the price they charge.

I'd be surprised they had a regular shuttle, since the hotel is literally across the street, and most taxis wouldn't want such a short trip. However, your case can't be unique so I would contact the hotel directly to ask

The cruise port is just across the street - a 5minute walking at most. The hotel provides a free shuttle to the airport every day. If your budget allows, get a bay view room.
