The Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa and Marina garners mixed reviews, with guests enchanted by its scenic vistas and convenient location near San Diego hotspots. However, critiques about the hotel's atmosphere and dated rooms are not uncommon. Cleanliness generally receives high marks, but some guests have encountered housekeeping issues. The staff's attentiveness is often acknowledged, yet inconsistent service and slow response times mar the experience for some. While the array of family-friendly amenities is a highlight, the noise level can be bothersome. Many guests also consider the pricing steep, factoring in the additional fees and cost of on-site dining.

This Hyatt is a wonderful hotel. It is located at the bay, about a mile from the ocean and boardwalk at Mission Bay. The hotel is right on the boat harbor bayside. The balconies in the tower overlook the bay and downtown SD, with a clear view of Seaworld. The hotel itself is well managed and well staffed. This is a high recommend for sure if being by the water is desired. There are lots of things to do within walking distance and a short drive.

We loved everything about our stay here! My friends and I spent a weekend celebrating our 40th birthdays. Since my husband got us the room with his Hyatt points, we were able to enjoy all of his Globalist perks such as waived resort fees, valet parking, upgraded room and free breakfast at the Red Marlin. (Note: even though it’s a Regency, they do not have a Club Lounge anymore) We stayed in the main tower in a corner king ocean view suite. It was very spacious and so cozy to hang out there after a long day of sight-seeing. The views were so incredible of Mission Bay, Mission Beach and the Pacific Ocean. Loved waking up to the sunrise colors all around me! A review had mentioned loud noise in a corner room but we didn’t hear anything from ours and slept soundly. (The only bad part was when sitting on the couch one morning, we overheard the phone conversation of the guest next door since it has an adjoining door) The modern coastal decor throughout was great. The grounds were so pretty and peaceful, I felt like I could’ve been in Hawaii. There is a nice trail to walk on along the bay and marina with beautiful views. We arrived to the hotel early and since it was rainy weather, decided to get facials/massages at the Blue Marble Spa. Our room was ready for us by the time we were done, so it worked out perfectly. We loved the location of this hotel— It was very easy to get to the airport but felt quietly tucked away, only 4 minutes from Mission Beach, and was so easy to get to San Diego and La Jolla from there. Everyone that we encountered during our stay was so nice and helpful. Our experience with valet, check in, front desk, bellman, housekeeping, the spa and Red Marlin was top notch—just as to be expected from our favorite hotel chain. It is why we love and are so loyal to Hyatt, because of how we’re treated. I can’t wait to come back in the summer with my family so that we can take advantage of the waterslides, kayaks and paddle boards—it was just too chilly for us in February.;) Thank you Hyatt Mission Bay, until next time!

I have organised a conference here twice and both times have really enjoyed being at the hotel. The grounds and pool area are lovely and well maintained. I was in the tower block with a corner room with fantastic views.

Great base for exploring by car and foot, as mission beach is a lovely 15 minutes stroll away.

Event staff here very very attentive and helpful. The catering for our three day event was plentiful and delicious, my only feedback is the conference room does need a bit of a refurbish.

Tips for staying here:
There is a great little diner along from the hotel on the marina that does great breakfasts at very reasonable prices.
Parking is very expensive so use the street parking which is free and the same distance to the hotel as the car park.
Merlin restaurant, lovely food but if ordering a starter and they offer you to double it, warning they also double price.

I was so disappointed with the service at this hotel. I had booked 2 corner suites over a month prior to arrival and when I arrived at the hotel, was told that there was a "maintenance" issue with a room and they had to separate our rooms which was unacceptable. It was unacceptable that they did not even try to contact me the day of and no better resolution was provided me besides putting my other room into a standard sized room when i had paid for 2 corner suites. The tone that was presented to me by their staff was very unapologetic in emotion and it didn't feel genuine that they were "sorry" for this mishap. They ultimately gave us 1 free night for each room and comped our breakfast the next morning but made us switch rooms which was a huge inconvenience when traveling with toddlers. The manager had agreed to take care of breakfast for both days (we were there for 2 nights) but only 1 day was comped and I couldn't get through to the property to discuss it further with them because no one responded to my emails and their phone # doesn't go through - it just disconnects you because it says their line is busy. So disappointed with their service. In addition, their corner suite that was provided to us was an ADA unit with a shower curtain and no toiletry kit in their bathroom - just a blowdryer. How do you bathe babies with a shower that had no containment to the water. The room also had water damage to the door frame. It was a terrible room they gave us and we were just SOL since we were the last to arrive that day. I would NOT recommend.

My family is wrapping up our week of Spring Break here with our three kids and I can't say strongly enough that if you are looking for more than a bed/pillow I.e. what a resort would typically offer, run, don't walk, away from here. I'll start with the positives, as there are few - the view from from the balcony of our suite was very nice. It overlooks the marina and has a straight shot out to the water. Additionally, John the valet was extremely helpful and nice in getting us in another room since our original room was having some construction done to the neighboring room and had a very strong glue smell. Now on to the not so positive - The hotel website lists two restaurants on site, both of which have stated hours for lunch and dinner. However, neither restaurant was open until 5pm, which really put a damper on our plans to hang by the pool and eat lunch at the resort and to make matters worse, the bar/restaurant adjacent to the pool (Pelican) closed at 8pm. They do have a market by the marina, but its price point is very much in line with a gas station at a marina (breakfast comprised of three bagels, two cereals and a couple drinks was $60). The suites, despite the great views I mentioned above, are located in a building that is completely separate from the main hotel tower. As such, you are essentially on an island from the "amenities" the resort offers. The kids area is comprised of an old fusbol table, two cornhole boards with 2 functional bags (the others have no beans in them) and a rickety ping pong table and is located in the far corner of the pool area. The fitness center is quite small and has only one bench for free weights and the space is very cramped, so if you are there in the AM when most people decide to do their workout, it creates a pretty tough situation. The cardio machines, however, appear to be fairly current and of decent quality. The beds are fairly comfortable, though the pillows are very small and they only give you one or two per bed. I travel fairly frequently for business and this hotel is definitely in need of some TLC or perhaps the waterfront views outweigh the subpar attributes for others, as the reviews do not reflect our experience. Lastly, the daily resort fee + parking fee (self parking in an open lot with ample parking only separated by a boom gate) is excessive. I understand a valet parking fee, which I have paid and was willing to pay in this case but was advised against it b/c of the distance to the suite building, but a fee to self park is a perfect example of unnecessarily nickel/diming guests.

On the surface this hotel looks wonderful with clean and appealing decorations. But for $200 a night you could be staying at a much better place. However if you enjoy wasting your money on the view from a waterside unit this is the place to be. Just don't expect to have daily housekeeping or vending machines. A 4 night stay does not earn you the right to have daily housekeeping so you have to bus your own trash and linens and even though you put them outside of your door you have to make multiple calls to request additional linens. The bathroom of a room with a view also reveals cracked, dirty, and dingy ceiling/light fixtures (see attached).

There are no vending machines or convince store to get a soda or chips at 10:00 p.m. so be sure to plan your hunger pangs accordingly. All of the food or beverage service is based on a restaurant that requires preorder and takes 20 to 30 minutes for food and is only open until 10:00 p.m. on the weekend. There are not enough chairs to enjoy pool time, the spa is closed, and though there are many open outside areas for relaxing, there are no chairs or benches. The parking lot is mini car only sized and good luck trying to find one of the few available open parking spaces. Do yourself a favour and look at another rest for your stay in beautiful Mission Bay. I feel like I stayed at a Super 8 Motel at resort prices with a huge miss of service convenience and attractiveness.

654caseym, We are constantly updating the way we do business and adhering to local re-opening guidelines. Most of the items you mentioned including operating hours of outlets are currently mandated. The hotel offers both self-parking or valet for the same price, so if you ever have difficulty finding a space we would be happy to park it for you. Hopeful that we can return back to normal operations in the very near future, but until some guidelines are lifted we will continue to keep our hotel website updated with the latest information and you can always reach out to the hotel directly with any questions.

With covid you would think that cleaning would be on it's best but our shower was dirty with hair and stuff all over the walls. The mirror had spots all over it like from brushing teeth and flossing. The towel rack had black stuff on it that could be wiped down. The desk had oily stuff on it and the patio door was nasty. The towels had blood and makeup on them. People where smoking and the smell was coming in to the room. Security said smoke detectors was saying its undetectable due to it being practically any room or area. The bedroom is at the door so all noise you will hear all cars you will hear all talking and yelling outside you will hear.

This was not only one of my worst Hyatt stays in my life, but one of the worst "resort" experiences. This is not a resort. There were so many issues. 1.) Despite keeping our door closed, I was attacked overnight by mosquitos. 2.) I called in advance one night as my food was to be delivered. They don't allow delivery to the door, so I called the front desk and ask that they bring up my food when it came (I'm 8 months pregnant). After 45 minutes post delivery, I called as nothing had come to room. They had completely forgotten and let my food sit that entire time at the front desk. 3.) There was so much noise, I left more tired than I came. Could hear everything from the street; the housekeeping was very loud in the hallways, the carts and their conversations. 4.) Parking lot was disgusting, spilled liquids by the elevators, flies everywhere due to trash/laundry. 5. ) Parking elevator was broken and never fixed despite staff being aware, again having to juggle a bunch of stuff to the other floor at 8 months pregnant. 6.) the exit to the parking was broken and we missed picking up dinner we ordered because we could not get out before the restaurant closed. 7.) In the common areas, people were not wearing masks. Overall, we came to this resort based on great experiences with Hyatt in the past. I would never come back here or refer anyone. We are San Diego locals who live in Crown Point, came to work and sleep while work was being done at our house. Working was very difficult due to noise interference and sleeping was near impossible due to the same.

My husband and 10 month old stayed for 6 nice in a marina view suite. The room was very nice and clean. A bit disappointed that we paid for a "marina view" but our patio was right in front of the fitness center so we really just stared at that without a great view of the marina. But the room was large, bed was very comfy, and everything was clean.

The suite seemed to be flipped - meaning the door to the hotel room entered into the bedroom instead of the living area which made it tough to get in/out while someone is sleeping in the bedroom. You also hear every little sound from the hallway in the bedroom as there is very little sound proofing but this only proved problematic on the weekend nights, and probably isn't a problem if you don't have terrible neighbors (security had to come ask them to quiet down).

We had some trouble understanding which restaurants would be open on which days/times due to COVID which left us without food options a few times, nothing DoorDash couldn't solve but would've loved to have accurate info on that ahead of time.

Hotel is about a mile walk to the closest beach, you can rent paddle boards and kayaks in the marina. The pool is great, very warm, large, water slides are fun. Plenty to do in the area.

Staff at the hotel was 10/10, extremely helpful with anything we needed. We felt very safe the whole time with the mask policy strictly enforced (and followed) by all staff members. Would definitely stay again!

Only positive is location not what I expected from a Hyatt. Rooms get a complimentary cleaning once every three days, no toiletries only one had to request additional about every other day considering we were a party of five. Spa was closed, flys were always outside our room, loud at night. Sleeper sofa ate into your back, restroom was musty and key cards were constantly scanned to get in and out they would not work immediately. Spoke to staff about checkout and they managed to screw that up the day of check out as well. No vending machines for Coke’s and the restaurant located on site was over priced and not good on top of hostess not being too friendly.

Hi Erin, My son and I stayed in a corner king suite, and it was quite large. There was a large comfy couch and he also had a comfortable rollaway bed. and then there’s a king bed across the other side of the room. Might be a little tight for 5 and just wont be any privacy is the only thing. But should be fine for a few days. And we really enjoyed the hotel, especially the pools and waterslides. And even though the weather was kind of rough when we were there, there are kayaks and other things like paddle boards, you can rent right there too. It’s a great spot. Have fun!
