Location is perfect walking distance to a lot of great shops, restaurants, bars, convention center, coffee shops, etc. staff was friendly and helpful. Rooftop bar had a great view, was not very crowded and great cocktails. If you are looking for a centrally location this is for you!

I came into town for a few days to explore San Diego a little bit. I chose this Courtyard since it was right in the Gaslamp Quarter. I didn't have a car, so it was important to be able to walk or take advantage of public transportation. Being a block away from the the main drag of the Quarter, 5th Avenue, meant easy access to bars and eateries. Bus stops were only a few blocks away, including those headed to/from Balboa Park, as was the famous San Diego trolley. Even a water taxi to Coronado was a 10min walk away, just behind the convention center. And of course Petco Park, home of the MLB Padres, is like a block behind and down from the Courtyard. So great location for sightseeing and play tourist (which I was!). As far as the hotel itself, it's a small property. But it has amenities just as good as larger ones. There's a small cafe on the second floor for morning coffee and pastries. It has the typical Courtyard Market (which importantly had a microwave). And there's an awesome rooftop bar called "The Nolen" that offers great views of the city and good drinks; I didn't get a chance to try the food. Be aware that there's no complementary breakfast. But there are some tasty and affordable brunch spots just outside the hotel. The hotel staff was excellent. They were always very friendly and checked-in with me frequently via text to make sure my stay was comfortable. The rooms were definitely on the smaller side (I had a double since I was traveling with my brother), but that's typical for a city hotel; space is always at a premium. The room was inviting, the bathroom was spacious and clean, and the beds were comfortable; I had no problems falling asleep after a night out or a day spent walking around. It was just enough space for two people; more than that and you might be stepping on each other. The room also had a mini-fridge, but it was confusing since it didn't appear to be always on. Not good for keeping leftovers. Seemed like I could only keep it cool for 2hrs at a time. Weird, but not a huge deal. My room faced towards the street (west), so the bay window on an upper flower gave great views of the city. Also good for watching the hustle and bustle on the streets. The only negative with this hotel is the noise from outside during the evenings throughout the whole week. The pedicabs on the street often play loud music as they pass-by, or pick-up and drop-off people. Saturday night and Sunday night it gets much louder as there's a nightclub literally across the street that plays very loud music (good beats though) til about 1-2am on the weekends. The bass was loud/strong enough it vibrated the headboards of the bed! None of this is the hotel's fault; it's just something to be aware of if you're looking for peace and quiet at night. It's the city after all; it tends to be loud. Overall, it's great hotel for tourists. I'd highly recommend.

Micheal at the front desk is amazing!! He gave us great tips to go and see the city from a local's perspective and was there for us anytime we needed! The location of this hotel was really nice with a lot of things to do within walking distance. Will definitely be staying here again the next time we're in San Diego.

Good location in the Gaslamp area. The staff is very nice & helpful. A block from Petco Park & the convention center. A huge variety of restaurant choices in walking distance. The roof top restaurant (The Nolen) has a decent happy hour, but be warned they’ll charge an 18% gratuity on every check. The food selection is super limited, and given all of the restaurant choices in the area it’s not worth it. You’re better off taking advantage of the multiple food places in the area. The rooms are pretty cramped & just, blah. The bathrooms are sooooooo dark!!!! They’ve got to do better in lighting the bathrooms. Otherwise, you could do worse.

Spent two nights and although it wasn't terrible, there are so many other, apparently better, options in the Gaslamp...likely too many to return here. Pros: Location: its the Gaslamp, so... Clean room and sheets nice variety of pillows Cons: Room 307 view: The whole side of the building faces a couple of ugly brick walls and overlooks some patio furniture on the roof a level or two below. Just feels dumpy. I wish I had taken photos. Small room Shower leaks like crazy No room refresh: I get the times, but you have to let someone know. If there is signage, make it bigger because your staff is not sharing. Given that the shower leaks, I left all of my towels on the floor (the standard "please replace" message to housekeeping.) Got in late to them still being there and frankly didn't want to deal with waiting for someone to come up with towels. Luckily there are three hand towels and I shave my head... No gratis breakfast: I guess I keep forgetting that Marriott properties don't do this? $6 water in the room: Insulting. Hyatt and Hilton manage to either provide free in the room or hand it to me at the front desk. Heck, I can even get water at Holiday Inn for nothing! So, do better, but likely not for me.

Downtown SD, walkable to Petco and to all the food and drinks you need. Lots of shopping. We valet parked our car, I feel like that was the only option. The rooms are small, but clean and newly updated/modern. Had amazing dinner and breakfast. A rooftop bar that overlooks SD and petco park that was amazing. They have rules posted on the table about how long you can sit and stay. Food options were limited on the rooftop bar. We only stayed one night then had to catch a flight but loved the location.

If you want to have a a spectacular time in San Diego stay at this hotel !! The staff here are absolutely AMAZING !! After being thrown out of the Marriott in Gaslamp area because their rooms are absolutely ATROCIOUS. Furthermore, after going to 3 separate rooms, all three rooms at the Marriott Gaslamp had something wrong with them !!! Instead of the manager, at the Gaslamp, trying to rectify the problem, he throws out his guests. What I find truly amazing is when you go to a different property, owned by the same company, which is MARRIOTT the hotels are like NIGHT AND DAY. The Gaslamp MARRIOTT is a DUMP !! It shows by the lack of professionalism and respect from the manager that is in charge. He should go over to this hotel to see how a Hotel is supposed to be run. Not only are the rooms in AMAZING condition, unlike the dumpy, rundown, crappy Gaslamp Marriott, everything works in the room. Amazing, what a concept that everything works in the room. Televisions are mounted on the wall like any and every other normal hotel. Air conditioning works like it should. Unlike the BROKEN A/C at the OTHER DUMP !! Lights works. The sink does not make noise. Maybe the manager at the Marriott Gaslamp should work at The Courtyard Marriott to see how a facility should be run !! The staff always greets you with a smile and says good morning, good afternoon, and they welcome you back at the Courtyard. Next time I go back to San Diego, I will only stay at this particular hotel. The reason, it caters to executives. I guess at the Gaslamp Marriott they cater to everybody except executives. Because as an executive, I don’t think anyone would’ve ever put up with the crap that the manager dealt out at the Marriott Gaslamp. RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL, !!! TAKE SOME POINTERS FROM A REAL HOTEL !! BECAUSE THATS WHAT THIS ONE IS. 1000 TIME BETTER !!

We stayed at this property to attend the Padre game. The front desk staff were all fantastic! Eve at check in and Claudia (I hope that’s correct! ) at check out. Both were so kind and really went above and beyond to make our stay a good one! The hotel is centrally located in the Gaslamp quarter. Easy walk to Petco park. Rooms are small but clean and comfortable. This property has a really nice rooftop bar! We enjoyed some drinks up there after the game!
