It was a bit hard to find the hotel at first but in the end, I did find it.
What will help if you are driving yourself have your navigation end at the House of Blue San Deigo (since it is on the side of the building where the valet is.

The lobby is beautiful, especially with the restored interior. The person who checked me in was very helpful and got me checked in very quickly. The elevator bank was really cool.

My room was fantastic, as was the view. The bed was very big and comfortable. The bathroom was well appointed.
The view was spectacular and unparalleled; both during the day and at night. with spectacular views of the Gaslamp, Petco Stadium, the convention center, and the waterfront area.
You have to schedule a time for the staff to "refresh" the room so they can not be in there with you.
The downside was that the “blackout” curtains didn’t really work that well.

The area itself was perfect, and with many things within 30 minutes of walking. There was plenty of choices for food in a 15-minute walk.
The is also a CVS and a 7-Eleven within 2 blocks of the hotel.

The fitness center is by the "Safty Depot box room" and the machines are well kept. Additionally, they have a rule in place to only let one person in (to workout) at a time, for an hour at a time (with space in between so the hotel staff can clean/disinfect).

I highly recommend this hotel

This hotel is in an old bank and the lobby is beautiful. It feels grand and could easily be a higher branded hotel. The only negative is the location is just north of the gaslamp district, which starts to feel a little bit rough around the edges.

Location: The location is good and walkable to gaslamp, but you are on the rough side of it. At night, it doesn't feel great walking around outside of the hotel.

Cleanliness: Perfect

Service: The staff was great and extremely friendly. Valet was quick and easy with a great text function that was very responsive.

Rooms: They were a little run down, but very nice in general and met all expectations.

Final Notes: If you want a nice budget hotel, this is a perfect place. It's right next to the US Grant which charges twice as much for a very similar experience. I'd highly recommend this to someone looking to enjoy gaslamp, but save a few dollars without giving up quality of the hotel.

Covid tip: If you want to work out, make sure you schedule your time AS SOON AS YOU ARRIVE. Only 1 person can use the fitness center at a time and you can only book 1 day in advance. The view sadly was not great. Staff friendly and helpful.

You're right next to a 7 Eleven and the Gaslamp district which is great!

Less than desirable arrival experience. The front desk staff was extremely rude.

We had a gift card that we planned on utilizing to partially pay for the cost of the room. At first they wouldn’t let us use the gift card because the room was prepaid. We had to push for them to use the gift card. It felt almost as if they were incentivized not to accept it. When my gf tried to clarify, the front desk attendant rolled her eyes at her. Extremely rude and unprofessional.

Here is the part that really frustrated me.

The front desk valet had mentioned they allow self parking. When I asked the attendant to confirm where I could self park (same attendant that rolled her eyes) snapped back at me and said we don’t do self park at this property, you need to pay $54 and just stared at me. the other attendant interjected and clarified that although it was off hotel premises, we could self park around the corner.

She was very rude and unprofessional. One of the worst arrival experiences I’ve had at a hotel. She straight up gave us an attitude from the moment we walked in. Soured the day, right before Christmas too.

To top things off, we agreed that the room would be cleaned every two days at the request of the front desk staff. 2 days after check-in they didn’t not clean the room. We had to go downstairs at night when we got back to the hotel to get them to clean it. How disorganized can you be when you don’t know when the guest rooms are supposed to be clean. Not sure if Marriott is lowering their standards but this is not what I expect out of a Marriott Hotel.

We stayed here in a suite as a family trip to San Diego. The location is superb and within walking distance to the Gaslamp Quarter and close to many good eats.

It's only a few minutes drive to Sea World and the San Diego Zoo. The train station is also a block away walking distance that you can take all the way to the Mexico border to Tijuana. We did that and walked across the border instead of driving and waiting in line and fighting with traffic, much more convenient.

The hotel itself is really cool as a converted bank and an unique experience. The hotel offers valet service and I would really recommend it to avoid the headache of finding safe parking downtown. We really enjoyed our stay there with the large living room + bedroom suite. There is also excellent air conditioning / climate control in the rooms.

If you enjoy staying in historical buildings or in this case, repurposed buildings, this location is for you!! Originally built as a bank and office building in 1928. This site completed an upgrade in 2013. It still has all of the charm and structural features, but now supports a hotel. Rooms are very nice and clean; plenty of hot water; AC works fine. There is a restaurant/bar are in the lobby serving drinks/food to 1pm and then back in late afternoon starting at 4pm. Perfect location for urban explorers. Easy walks around Downtown, Little Italy, Embarcadero. The building itself has some "easter eggs" so make sure to check in with front desk staff about what to hunt for. There are two nightclubs nearby that do get rather loud in the evening, so if you are a light sleeper, or do not like excessive night/city noise, this place may not be a good choice. Suitable for all ages, and ramped access for wheelchairs and suitcases. Enjoy your visit! Happy Trails!

I am a Marriott Platinum Member and travel extensively for work and personal travel - always choosing a Marriott property.

This hotel is one of the worst, if not thee worst, that I have every stayed at.

When I check iin the first room they gave me I opened the door and the room was disgusting - dirty towels all over the floor, the bed a nasty mess and the room not even cleaned.

After 45 minutes, the gave me another room, that while clean was located right next to the elevators - so I hear Everyone who has our been partying and having fun (wish I had been out with them).

The hotel offers zero benefits for Bonvoy Members, no complimentary breakfast and they don’t even provide you water to make coffee in the morning.

The area is dirty and the people who work here are not friendly.

I will never stay here again and will be sure to tell every one I know to avoid this place at all costs. Do your self a favor a stay at the Pendry, Hilton or Hotel Solomar.

Dear Guest, I regret to hear that your experience while staying with us was not the accommodating stay you expect from a Marriott. I would be happy to discuss your stay and be able to look into these shortcomings to prevent them from happening in the future if you would like to contact me directly. I understand how important a first impression is and walking into a room that doesn't meet those standards can affect the rest of your time and I am very concerned to hear something like this happened. Again, I would be happy to review your stay if you would like to contact me at the property directly. I hope I can offer some answers and correct any wrong doings from happening again. Thank you for choosing to stay with us and I hope to hear from you soon.

Overall, we liked the hotel. Stayed here for 3 nights with our son. GOt a Corner room which was huge, basically a bedroom and a sitting area with a sofa bed. The hotel is very nice, Grand even. The lobby used to be a large bank, and it's huge, beautiful and stately. Definitely one of the better Courtywards I've seen. There's even a conference room within the old Vault, which is very cool. The fitness room had 4 treadmills and a few more machines, comfortable setup. The wifi in the hotel was fast and stable.
The location was good, only a couple of blocks form the Gaslamp Quarter.
The two negatives would be the beds, there were not very comfortable and the sofa bed mattress was flimsy. And the parking was very expensive, at $50 per day with no real self-parking option available.

We spent 2 nights here in mid-December and were extremely happy with our stay. Front desk were welcoming and very efficient, as was housekeeping. The architecture of this building is gorgeous!
The room was more than sufficient and comfortable (absolutely no complaints about the room!)
If we make our way back to San Diego, we would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Within a few blocks, you are in the gaslamp quarter. This isn't to the level of Seattle or Portland, and most of the "rough" elements are to the north, away from Petco. I don't think you have to worry about safety at all on the way to Petco, but the last 100 yards won't be as nice as the rest of the walk. Hard to explain, but if you live in a city, it'll be nothing you haven't seen before.

Hello rmh493, Sorry for the late response. Unfortunately we don't have any shuttle service from the San Diego airport. You can either get a taxi or if you're familiar with using Uber or Lyft you can do both. Thank you.
