The Bahia Resort Hotel boasts a prime location cherished by guests for its proximity to the beach and attractions, accompanied by stunning views. While the hotel's atmosphere and cleanliness receive mixed reviews, with some noting the need for modernization and better housekeeping, many travelers have enjoyed the nostalgic charm and tidy grounds.
Patrons often praise the resort's amenities like the private beach and pool, though there are some concerns about room upkeep. The service is generally applauded for its friendliness, but reviews suggest that the value proposition could be improved, citing high costs for the experience on offer.

I had a really lovely stay at this hotel for 6 nights.. The staff were extremely accommodating and the front of house staff were excellent. This hotel is perfect for families. It's a large resort with a great pool that opens very late, but you have the option of your using their private secluded and safe bay beach with cabanas. The little shop was fantastic that stocked everything from sandwiches, chips, chocolate, swimwear and of course souvenirs.
The hotel offers various room choices. I opted for a king, which was huge and a massive balcony that overlooked the bay. The room was very comfortable and spacious. The onsite restaurant served a great choice of food with great breakfasts and dinner choices for both adults and children.
The location of this hotel is less than 5 mins walk to both Mission Beach, with its promenade boardwalk to Pacific Beach, which allows easy access to miles of yellow sand as well as Belmont Park.
If you are looking for a beach hotel which is reasonably priced, this hotel is a great option.

This is a lovely resort - from the helpful staff who answer the phones and check you in to the lush tropical gardens you get the feeling of a real tropical destination vacation. Loved the seal enclosure and the coffee trailer located at the front. Loved all the extra curricular options available right at the resort too. Boat rentals, paddle boards, etc. Granted, at an extra cost but so very convenient and nestled in the bay, we felt comfortable paddle boarding as we are just beginners. There were plenty of chairs at the beach to sit on and didn't feel we needed to rush out to reserve first thing in the morning. Towels were easy to access in the pool area. We also had a very good meal at the restaurant, although my son with shellfish allergies did not eat there as its mostly seafood. We were very pleased that room came with kitchenette / fridge , microwave and toaster, so that we could purchase food and not eat every bfast and lunch at a restaurant. I would return to this resort if visiting sandiego again. Beds were comfortable.
The only downsides would be that the rooms could use some updating.. they were clean but well used and if you really need peace and quiet, you could hear hallway noise ... however, it didn't bother us. A lounger on the balcony would be a nice addition as well. I didn't love that very young kids dominated the hottub... seemingly unsupervised every time I went to use it.. therefore, did not get in to utilize pool or hot tub area. It was very busy and the drink at the bar cost me $20 so it's a bit costly. Also, pickleball paddles are loaned out but if you like to play, bring your own paddles. The loaner paddles are not so great. Courts are lovely.

Upon arrival at the Bahia Resort Hotel we were very pleased with the ease of entering the resort and checking in with the front desk. Our front desk attendant Ryan was not only hospitable and knowledgeable to all of our questions but was so kind to upgrade our room for no additional charge to a studio garden bay view on the bottom floor! This was so nice for us as we had our 11 month old baby with us. A great start to our wonderful 3- night stay. We loved the room! Our daughter loved crawling around on the grass trying to catch the ducks right on our back patio! The only downside to the room was that our bathroom sink didn’t drain unless you held it open, other than that the room was perfect! Our first night there we enjoyed a dinner at the Dockside 1953. It was my husband’s birthday and the view and service was very special! The price was a little too high in my opinion. My husband was bummed there was not more traditional seafood options such as “Surf and Turf”. We had a Rockfish ceviche, Chilled Lobster (husband was bummed there wasn’t hot/steamed lobster on the menu), a Bahia Mai Tai, and I had the Catch of the Day which was Opah and was pretty good! Unfortunately, after spending $170 for two people I still left fairly hungry though so I feel like the value is not very good. The service and atmosphere is great though. Mother’s Day morning I also ordered a Bloody Mary from Dockside and that was delicious! The next day we spent at Sea World and it was great staying so close to the park. Two evenings in a row we got to watch the Sea World fireworks from our patio window! So special! We also got to enjoy the huge whirlpool on site, there was a lot of trash and towels everywhere in the pool area which needed attending to but the actual spa and pool itself were very nice and clean! Also, at the resort is the rescue seal exhibit and that’s so amazing! Throughout our stay we visited the seals often and loved watching them swim around and get fed at 9am. We ate at the Grab and Go airstream twice. Unfortunately both mornings they were out of breakfast burritos and the 2nd morning they were out of breakfast sandwiches also. With only 4 more affordable breakfast items on the menu, this was very disappointing. The only other option was the very pricey items you could have brought over from the Dockside which we ended up trying the Butterscotch Banana French Toast, which was good but again, not necessarily $18 good. Besides not the best food options/prices, we had an amazing stay at the Bahia resort. All the resort staff are so friendly and attentive and seem to be doing a great job. Such a wonderful getaway for my family for the husbands birthday and Mother’s Day weekend. We would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking to go to Sea World or the San Diego Zoo. We hope to come back one day! Thanks Bahia!

Dear Jaclyn, thank you for choosing the Bahia Resort Hotel and for your detailed 5-star review. We appreciate your kind words about our service, spa and pool, and rescue seals. It sounds like you had a great time. We apologize for running out of the food items at the Grab 'N Go and that you left dinner unsatisfied. We are grateful for your patronage and are looking forward to welcoming you back next time you are in San Diego. Best wishes from our team.

This place looked great online but disappointed on so many levels. This was a special family vacation and I was willing to splurge for the experience promised. It started when we came to check in at 4:15 p.m. (4:00 p.m. check in) and our room wasn't ready. The gal who helped us, Vanessa, was lovely and offered to waive our resort fees (this is an ongoing theme, stay tuned) and call us when our room was ready. She did and our room was ready at 5:30. I came back and waited again at the front; the two fellas (Timothy and another gent) were busily helping other folks and there was a woman there (can't remember her name, it had four letters, maybe Leah?) who didn't make eye contact and was rummaging through drawers, so I thought perhaps she wasn't working the desk. Alas, another lady came in behind me and she says can I help you and I said, excuse me, I was here first. She attended to me but was absolutely rude. Not an auspicious beginning.
Our room was large but basic; dark and old furniture, rough carpet, not the islandy kind of vibe on the website. When we went to bed that night it turned out that our beds were fitted with the wrong size sheets which made sleeping tough. When I went to the front desk the concierge said he would get it fixed, and I asked that he do it early (10 a.m.) after we left the room, and he did. The next day housekeeping barged into the room at 8 while my son was sleeping and then did not return until 4 p.m. The next day we were shortsheeted again and when I went to the front desk to complain the manager said I can waive your resort fees. (He had just said the same thing to another disgruntled customer at the front desk, so clearly this is a thing.) I said they have already been waived, can you waive our bar bill from yesterday, we had three watery mojitos with mint leaves floating in them. He said no, you need to talk to the restaurant manager. I'm on vacation, I don't need another job. Completely unhelpful but at least he got the staff there to clean our room by 5:00 p.m. Our room was also note cleaned until after 4 the next day.
I am guessing they are understaffed on housekeeping but that is a problem that impacts guests and it needs to be corrected, not placated by the waiving of fees. Indeed, the tray pictured was on our stairs for our entire stay. Probably still there now.
The grounds are very pretty. Some of the folks are nice and friendly. The coffee they sell at the little trailer coffee bar is all but undrinkable. We did have a nice dinner at the restaurant, although it was very pricey.
This place presents itself as a luxurious place, and while it's ok, it's not fabulous. Lots of folks with coolers full of drinks and the like outside their door. More of an upscale kind of campground vibe.

We were there four days for a conference. The following is all true and correct.
Seagulls were swimming and pooping in the pool. A rat ran back and forth under the tables at the outdoor restaurant.
They never cleaned the room, just changed towels daily. When we asked for our room to be cleaned the front desk replied, " we can give you clean sheets and you can change the bed yourself".
The coffee pot spewed out espresso like coffee rather than full cups. The coffee service, including the little packets of sugar, were never replaced, we had to go and buy our own offsite. The two glasses and coffee cups were never cleaned or replaced.
Three housekeeping staff took four hours to change the towels on one floor. We asked two housekeepers in English for water and they responded in Spanish. Then when we asked again in Spanish, they were shocked and pretended not to understand Spanish.
The elevators are shared by both maintenance staff and guests. One staff member hit on a guest while another did nothing but complain about the work.
The rooms have sliders that face the parking lot but no screens so we had flies and moths in our room. Also, the sliders don't lock.
Be sure you awaken every morning at 6:00 am because that is when deliveries are made right under your window. Then again, you won't get sleep anyway because the blackout drapes don't close all the way and each room's balcony lights stay on all night.

We loved staying at the Bahia resort. It was a perfect oasis in San Diego. We loved the restaurant, Dockside 1953, on property. The food was so good and service was superb. We loved taking a night cruise on the bay in the Bahia Belle. We loved walking by and checking on the 3 rescued seals they have on the property. I liked that it's a short 5 minute walk to Mission Beach and Belmont park. But my favorite part was sitting on the beach chairs on the private beach during the afternoons to read my book. The only complaint I have is that room service never came while we were out of the room each day (10:30 am-5:00 pm) so our room never got cleaned the 4 days we stayed here. We did call front desk to get fresh towels and they were quick to bring us some. We will definitely stay here again in the future.

Upon our arrival Martin helped us check in and he was the absolute best, he made our trip. All the staff were very friendly when I say everyone I mean EVERYONE. We stayed here for our kids birthday we were randomly selected for an upgrade which was so so awesome. (The pics don't even give the room justice) We came out there for the zoo which was awesome because it was conveniently close. The presidential suite was an absolute dream, super spacious, full kitchen, separate living room (with fireplace) from the bedroom. Great for families. And a balcony out looking the beach. Oh my goodness it truly was such a an awesome experience. My family also came with us on our trip and they stayed in the bungalow style and those were obviously smaller but still very nice. Super convenient with micro and fridge. out looking the little pond area. Which my kids loved because they got to see the ducks. My family watched the kids one night for my husband and I which was so nice they took them down to the game room and kept them preoccupied while we went down to the restaurant/bar, it Was so beautiful - pricey but was a nice experience. The bar tender was very kind too. Added bonus, my son LOVED being able to watch the three little seals play in their little area. I used to come with my family to this resort when I was a kid so it was pretty nostalgic and the way they have added things is so awesome. It wasn't till about the end of the trip we realized they had a little playground which was SO cool. Such a family friendly place we enjoyed ourselves so much I would recommend to everyone. We will definitely be coming back again .Thank you guys so much for such an amazing time!

Had the pleasure of speaking with Renee in the reservations department to figure out the best room for our stay. She was so patient with my multiple questions and was able to provide detailed suggestions about the my room options. I felt she genuinely had my best interest, was willing to work with our budget and never pressured me into booking a more expensive option. I usually like to book rooms online instead of talking to the representatives, but my experience with Renee made me change my mind. I highly recommend the customer service at the Bahia Resort Hotel, especially Renee!

We booked a room at the Bahia through a conference I was attending and received a favorable group rate. My wife and I, however, felt that the room was a little small, so we asked at the reception to see if an upgrade to a larger room was possible, fully expecting to pay a higher rate. To our great surprise and delight, the agent, Jana, was able to upgrade us to a spacious room with na magnificent view of the bay at no additional charge. Thank you Jana!

We planned a last minute trip the week before Christmas and it was everything we could have asked for! This resort is amazing. We were greeted by Tristan who was so nice and helpful, and other staff with recommendations and answers to any questions we had. Traveling alone with a 10 year old, we felt extremely safe while still having a very secluded and private room. We had a king suite with amazing views. The entire property was clean with a beautiful photo op around every corner. The pool and hot tub were awesome and we enjoyed both of them along with a coffee truck centrally located; my son said they had the best iced caramel macchiato he has ever had:) Location is as perfect as described, close to everything you could want to do, and kept us busy the entire trip, Will be back!:)
