Detailed Reviews
Wow I highly recommend this place.
The customer service while staying there was amazing. I really felt cared for.
They texted me while there, asking if I was enjoying my stay and if I needed anything. Wow!
They had a smart TV that had Netflix, & a few other streaming apps u sign into your account to use. Then it automatically signs you out of all apps when you check out. Wow!
They had while I was there an automatic 12 noon check out, and at 11:30. I asked if I could check out at 12:30 for no charge and they said yes.. Wow!
They have free (I think free) washer & dryer for customers to wash their own clothes. Wow!
The hotel was beautiful with no interesting views from rooms, BUT, it is right across the street from my favorite area of San Diego (I lived there 43 years), Old Town. Wow!
Walking distance from the best Mexican food u can imagine.
I highly recommend Casa Guadalajara. Best food, best margaritas, best atmosphere you can imagine. Be sure & sit outside on the umbrella patio with trees & water fountains. The service was amazing with free extra shot for my already very strong margarita.
I do not recommend Casa de Reyes.
It used to be my favorite place (Casa de Pico) with so many memories, before they were priced out & the replacement, Casa de Reyes, is a very sad replacement.
Margaritas are horrible & very cheaply poured. $20 margarita had no tequila in it. It seemed like a virgin drink.
Service made me feel unwelcome. Casa de Pico had been there for decades & I am very disappointed that San Diego didn’t keep this absolute jewel.
But Old Town has not only great eating, it is an incredible shopping & cultural & historical experience.
Beautiful Spanish courtyards with gardens & you won’t believe the Old Town-themed shops & historical buildings .
The hotel is 12 min drive to airport, & 10 min drive to the world renowned Chinese acupuncture school where u can get acupuncture for $37. I would move to San Diego just for that
This hotel is the only place I want to stay from now on!

Hotel's Favourite
I've been looking at staying at this location since it opened a few years ago - this was my first visit. Great location, especially if you are visiting University of SD. Rooms are very nice, good size and bathroom was clean and roomy. Hotel restaurant also was nice - breakfast featured a lot of options and I felt like the food was pretty good. I am not easy to please and have been to a great deal of hotels across the U.S. - this is a nice hotel - very comfortable. OBTW: The staff I interacted with were ALL very nice!!!

I booked this hotel for the San Diego Comic-Con as it was one of the few with two queen beds available. The hotel is not too bad overall, but my stay had some issues. First, the check-in was at 3:00, but I arrived early and asked for an early check-in as a Gold Member. Nothing available. I was told to come back to check in 30 mins, which I did three times. Eventually, after 3 PM, I finally got a room. The first front desk person I spoke with was very nice and recommended a close restaurant and allowed me to check my bag while I waited. The next one was fairly rude, giving me the impression I was bothering her. Once in the room, it was clean, and the bathroom was very nice. Unfortunately, the furniture -- all the furniture -- was very uncomfortable. The beds were a very hard, springy feeling, the desk chair had no way (that I could find) to adjust, and the other chair was designed so you either had to sit leaning forward or slouching down to fit the odd contours. When I went to the front desk to ask where the shuttle to the Con was, the person there rudely said, "I don't know, but I suppose I should look it up since you are the third person to ask that." I thought this was unneeded for a hotel in a city where a major (250k people) convention was being held (as it has been for over 50 years). Eventually, I learned that another hotel of the same name on the other side of town had a shuttle, but it was not THIS hotel. I had to take the local tram for $2.50 each way (far cheaper than a taxi), which required a special app to use, etc. When it came time to check out, my friend wanted to extend the stay for one day. When we asked the previous night, they said to just come down, and they would help get that done as they had lots of room open. When we did that, we were told by the man at the desk that there was no way to extend a stay. We explained our case and were denied - he directed us to make a new reservation and see if we could get a room. My friend got upset and went to a different person who cared for him immediately and without problem!! Some other additional issues were thin walls, short hours for in-hotel restaurant, and a general lack of welcoming staff. I wouldn't willingly choose to book at this hotel again. Also, when getting from the airport to the hotel, the driver did not know what the "SeaWorld" area meant, as there was not a hotel there -- you have to tell them "on Taylor" so they know the right one.

davidpipgras, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. The feedback about early check-in and your interactions at the desk has been noted. It's good to hear you found the room clean and the bathroom pleasant. The comments on the furniture comfort and shuttle information are appreciated and will be looked into for improvement. The mentioned service inconsistencies are something the team is closely reviewing. We're sorry this stay didn't meet your expectations and will use your insights for future enhancements. Safe travels on your next adventure.

Points in favor of the Hotel: practically in the Old town of San Diego, with several shops and Mexican restaurants around; a few steps from the Old Town stop of the green trolley line, with which you can reach many parts of the city.
For the rest, absolutely ninth in line with the Hilton chain. The rooms are large, but bare and with dated and broken furnishings; super basic bathroom equipment. Cleaning is done every other day, on bad days not even the bins are emptied.
The breakfast (which costs a good 24 euros as a buffet) has a very very limited choice, with only American coffee or tea. The price/services offered ratio is not decidedly advantageous

**Overall Impression:**
- The establishment is average at best and does not justify the nightly rate charged.
**Positives:**
- **Accurate Photos:** The photos of the exterior and various interior spaces are accurate and visually appealing. Some areas appear to have been remodeled.
- **Staff:** The staff is nice.
- **Location:** The location is good, with many dining and shopping options within walking distance.
- **Safety:** The area feels safe.
**Negatives:**
- **Cleanliness:** Found dark hairs of various sizes on the top sheet, raising concerns about whether the sheets were changed or if the hair was from housekeeping.
- **Parking:** Parking spaces are extremely small, making it difficult for anything other than compact cars to fit. Additionally, there is a $25 per night parking fee.
- **Outdated Furniture:** The furniture in the room, including the dresser, is outdated.
- **Electrical Issues:** USB plugs did not work, and the outlets were loose, causing chargers to fall out.
- **Elevators:** Only one of the two elevators was operable at a time, it seemed that if one was in use, the other could not be used.
- **Breakfast:** Despite being promised free breakfast with each night's stay, only received passes for two out of four nights. Breakfast for me was buffet with the standard eggs, bacon, bread, yogurt, etc..
- **Comfort:** My colleague found both beds in her room uncomfortable, although my bed was comfortable.
- **Restaurant:** The restaurant menu is lacking, and the food quality is mediocre.
- **Key Card Issues:** The key card worked inconsistently for accessing the elevator, room, and outside doors.
**Conclusion:**
- Given the issues encountered, the price paid does not seem justified. There are likely less expensive options available. I am undecided about staying here again unless a lower rate is offered.

Stayed here as part of a business trip to the area and, overall, the experience was very good. Check in was very easy and the hotel is located in old town near the metro trans station and across the street from a Mexican Restaurant/shop.
I was given a room on the second of (4 I believe) floors. Although my room was close to the atrium, it was actually really quiet at night. I also wasn’t facing the street, so no noise from there either. The bed was comfortable and the room only had a stand in shower. Not an issue for me, but could be if you’re traveling with kids. When traveling with an infant, this would be a big let down. The television was large and worked well and the room was spacious by California standards.
Parking is a shameful $22/day-which is absolutely absurd. Street parking is an option they won’t advertise if you can find it, and a number of guests parked across the street at the California Department of Transportation without any known issues.
Breakfast in the morning was good, but do beware that the hot breakfast bar that is standard at many Hilton Garden Inns is not an offering here. They did have a continental breakfast, however. If you’re Hilton Honors Gold/Diamond, the $10 credit per day will only cover pancakes or a cup of fruit. This really needs to be addressed by Hilton given the economic environment.
I gave this hotel a 4/5 for accommodations, but the extras have the potential to really add up. The hotel was safe and I would stay here again if traveling on business, but it would be a very tough sell for me if I was traveling with a family for the bathroom and cost issues.

We were in San Diego for our Grandson’s graduation from Marine Boot Camp. We were a family of 7 and we had several rooms booked for our stay. The ladies at the front desk were absolutely wonderful both day and night. Right from the start the young lady on the morning shift was so sweet and helpful getting our bags stowed since we arrived early and rooms weren’t ready that time of the morning. And she was so hospitable and helpful in letting us know that she would message us as soon as our rooms were ready!! The other lady that worked in the afternoon was just as Great!! She always had a smile on and so friendly.
Our rooms were perfect! Everything was so clean and fresh and we had everything we needed each and every day!!
The hotel is beautiful and comfortable… the bar and bartenders were great and made really good drinks. We ordered food from the bar and it too was wonderful!! It sits just across the street from Old Town and we enjoyed visiting it a couple of times for dinner and drinks… also if you are there to watch graduation at MCRD, it is really close by car.
Trust me this hotel is a great place to stay and should we ever visit San Diego again, we will definitely stay at this hotel again!! Thank you to the wonderful staff for making our stay a memorable one!!!

We traveled to San Diego to go to the zoo. I have stayed at other Hilton locations and I was very disappointed in my stay for this location. Upon arrival, my wife noticed a small black bug in between the sheets. The bed was hard and uncomfortable. I went to get ice, our room was on the first floor, there is only one ice machine on the first floor which was on the opposite side of the hotel. I had to go thru the front lobby and thru the bar area to get to the machine. The ice machine was broken and I did notify the front desk. I ended up going to the second floor to get ice. The ice machine was inoperable during our 3-day stay.
The other issue was the several barking dogs that were in two separate rooms. The dogs barked for a good portion of the evening and I was disappointed that the staff did not notify the owners, instead the dogs continued to bark for several hours.
The swimming pool is very small that accommodates a few people at once. Lastly, we had Sunday breakfast at the restaurant that only had two staff members to take our order and they had to bus the tables. They ran out of coffee and used the lobby courtesy coffee to fill our cups the orange juice was at room temperature and not chilled I received burnt toast that was black on one side.

We strive for quality so it's unfortunate that our accommodations and sound insulation didn't meet your expectations. We also regret that our pool and breakfast service was less than ideal. We'll be sure to discuss your concerns with our management team moving forward. We hope to host you again soon for a more positive experience.

This hotel is terrible…mediocre at best. The picture of the entryway is deceptive because it looks elegant and is nothing like the pic. The desk clerk told us we could park above or below, but never said that below parking was $24 per night. No one reads the paperwork stashed inside the key folder. Plus, we only stayed in the parking garage one night and they charged us for two nights. The desk clerk was a smart-aleck about it. The room was like a motel 6, very sparse, no water glasses or any conveniences like a menu or anything. The hotel was not full, but they put a family with small children above us old people so had to hear children running back and forth for hours. Also, our room was over looking the dumpster. This for people who are Hilton Honors members. When I called the hotel directly the person said there was a complimentary breakfast, but alas there was not. We won’t be staying at a Hilton Garden INN again, especially not this one

On the surface level, this hotel was as expected for a mid-tier Hilton chain. Great location walkable to Old Town and a quick drive from the San Diego Zoo, where we were visiting. Bathroom was nice and room was spacious, but nothing to write home about. Hotel bar was serviceable, but pricy (even by hotel standards… almost $30 for a beer and a mid shelf mixed drink).
Three issues that lost points for me on this stay were:
1. I tried to check-in using the app and had selected a fourth floor room. Upon entry, we found the room to have a persistent loud humming noise. Assuming this was from the AC unit on the roof above the room. The front desk was thankfully able to switch our rooms, which i'm very grateful for. Nevertheless, it was a bit of a bummer start to the stay.
2. Hotel parking at $24 was a little crazy considering there were TONS of open spots on the street behind the hotel. Had I'd known, I wouldn't have pre-paid for parking.
3. Biggest bummer of all was that the hot tub was ice cold and the pool was too chilly to swim in. I picked this hotel to enjoy the hot tub with my boyfriend, so this was super disappointing.
If we come back to the area, we'll likely explore other options unless this place gets a big overhaul.

Parking on hotel grounds was $25 as I recall. Street parking is dicey but doable. The tip I can give you is to pay for the parking and park in the garage *under* the hotel. Elevator access to all floors from there. The basement garage is secure.
This hotel is VERY close to the airport. You could probably Uber there for about $7-$8
I am not sure I would call the hotel directly. I know there is a charge to park even for guests of the hotel.
It is quite a distance from the hotel. We didn’t have a car so took an Uber with our friends. I think it cost around $20 to $25 to get there. We pre purchased our zoo tickets before arrival and to be honest it wasn’t obvious that you could buy any tickets at the hotel.
Having said that the zoo is definitely something you have to do in San Diego, it is wonderful.
